That's why I fight for that ground during the middle and through the end, when it matters most.

And the earlier your team gains control, the easier those middle and end fights will be for them. The more control you give up early, the harder it is to come back during those late game fights. Immediately putting your team at a big disadvantage because "The last 30 seconds are all that matters" is a risky strategy. It's better to fight that last fight from a position of power than from a dangerous, difficult comeback.

Was S+ in Splatoon 1 and am currently A- (SZ) in 2. I stand by what I said.

Rank doesn't mean anything. Rank is like 90% just grinding enough to get up there.

I've gotten to A- this time around with ease, the game helps you every step of the way, haven't ranked down a single time. Its a meaningless distinction.

Fact is there are tons of different ways to play, and spending time inking your base is just as valid.

The key is to not die. If you die you're not denying the enemy, you're being denied.

Yes, avoiding death is ideal. If you are not dead, you're covering ground in ink.

I've not had a match where one team retains control of the middle for the entire match. (Edit: unless it's 3v4 or 2v4) The first there does not mean an immediate victory.

The last 30 seconds aren't all that matters, but they are the most important 30 seconds of the match.

As someone new to Splatoon it is frustrating as hell a couple things that Nintendo does with this game. I am constantly at the top of my team dominating as I have figured it out and 90% of my losses are due to people being AFK.

I do not understand how they can be away when the games start up so quickly (which i love)... are they just simply sitting in the online doing nothing? And Nintendo never kicks them out??

Beyond that not being able to party of with friends to play regular battle drives me nuts...

I really enjoy the gameplay and when the teams are both full and working towards the goal its great but I think this game falls apart quickly when one leg is pulled out from under the table.

I.

You kinda can, but it's like a 50/50 chance whether you both end up on the same team or not. Wish they'd change it so friends could play together on same team at all times

Never said it did.

We're not talking about sure things, we're talking about strategy. I said being at an advantage is better than being at a disadvantage. That securing contested areas early is often better than securing free areas that can be had at any time. That the person who denies the enemy contested ground is helping more than the person leisurely painting spawn.

These things, the various states of advantage you can put yourself in earlier than the enemy, are why many of us consider gaining control early to be the best strategy. Because being the wall that needs to be torn down is better than being the person who has to tear down the wall.

Here is my strategy. Mid game, when you are dying and taking time to cover your base, I am either taking your middle, or I am distracting you at your base while the rest of my teammates take the middle from you. If you covered your base at the beginning, you wouldn't have lost your middle mid-match.

FWIW, this is what my W/L looks like:

So I'm guessing this game turned out good? Worth the full price if you liked the original?

Absolutely. Better than the first one in every way and I loved the original.

Holy crap! 50.000 for a leather jacket!? I'm not going to be able to buy it, am I? :,(

I see merit to both rushing to middle and taking time to ink spawn. I prefer rushing to the middle to try and deny it to others, but I (awkwardly enough) like to die at least once a game to clean up spawn later on.

Frustrating losing when matchmaking teams up lvls 21/19/13/12 against lvls 13/13/6/5, me being on the lowered level team.

Honestly find that levels don't really matter.

Yes... If you liked the first, you'll enjoy this one... Same modes, same enjoyable gameplay, same splatfests, same shitty netcode and same awful randoms that spawn from time to time. ^_^

But the game is a bit more polished, and the new Salmon Run mode is great.

You already said you don't paint your own base sometimes even when needed because you 'might' be needed somewhere else. I'm not too worried about you.

It really depends on your team. As long as you got people doing both and not dying, its gonna be fine.

But if you never ink your base, nothing is going to save you. Unless you are just out right dominating.

You can send it over to your game and just sit on it until you have the money.

Bottom line is that you have any aspirations for ranked and/or league play, you're going to have to avoid random matchmaking entirely. There are just too many kids and people who have no problem with going AFK playing the game. I'd wager that 75% of the players not only don't care, but also will never care what their rank is, never dive heavily into scrubbing and building perfect gear sets, never purchase every weapon, etc.

Been playing salmon run for the last hour, for the first time. I managed to level up to 120% but then crashed down to 110%. It's a really tough mode bit even worse when people drop out and you don't have all the weapons in play. Fun though and a.good mixture between the single player kill everything style and the maps and ink push and pull of the multiplayer.bit really needs more maps though.

The only mode that I have any interest in this go-round in Turf War. Ranked is boring. Salmon Run is awesome, but I don't need money. Single player feels meh.

I only play with randos, except when my IRL friend and I are in a lobby together.

I hope they never do, because being able to communicate and be "in sync" with friends is a massive advantage. Even just two people. Turf Wars is not for ganging up and owning randoms.

Can you imagine, not being someone who plays with friends regularly, and every other match you're in has 2-4 people on the opposing team working in concert?

The flaw in your strategy is you have the mistaken idea in your head that covering a little extra bit of spawn on the way back takes time. It's quick and easy to throw a few shots off in another direction as you swim back. That's the point we've been trying to get across. That way it gets done, but doesn't waste your time.

And your bolded is just untrue. You lose the middle when you lose the fight over the middle. Covering your base early certainly isn't going to help prevent that.

As for getting up into the enemy base... I'd say that's 50/50. Sometimes you'll pull off a successful spawn camp, sometimes you'll just die pointlessly. Whether or not to do that is very match depended I feel.

It works for me most of the time. Refer to my W/L ratio posted previously.

Yeah, this is patently false. I don't know where you guys are playing or what's going on, but I've played TONS of matches, have only seen the unstable connection screen twice, and have only seen an AFK player maybe 2-3 (hell, bump that up to 5 if we include Splatoon 1)

Absolutely love this game, barely played the original

However i wonder one thing:

Are there only a one or two multiplayer maps that use some of the cool mechanics from the campaign??

I only played one that used the rails (sparingly..)...
