Splatoon 2 |OT| Fresh Squids 2 Go

So just started playing tonight. Game is a blast just like the first, but I have to say playing without a constant map is weird. Also it makes the super jump mechanics not as obvious. I wasn't even sure if they were still in the game until a good amount of matches.

Also wtf does the ink armor do? It says it protects against one hit is it literally one hit? And does it take a while to kick in?
It takes a while to kick in, but it protects the whole team. It lets you absorb some hits (3-4?) though I don't know if it depends on the strength of the shot. For example, you can absorb a fully charged charger shot but I think it gets rid of the armor right away.
Ink Armor gives a shield to yourself and each ally after a small delay. This shield will absorb up to 30 damage before breaking. If damage in excess of 30 is dealt while Ink Armor is still active, the excess damage will get absorbed by Ink Armor before breaking.

My desire to buy the Splatoon 2 female Inkling amiibo keeps growing. I really like the male Inkling one and I'm glad I bought it!

I guess everyone has their playstyle!
This made me lol

And yeah, the new Inkling Girl amiibo is totally rad! Love the colors.

I didn't like it at first as it seemed so weak compared to the Bubble of S1, but am growing to like it. Btw, inkjet+armor = mayhem.

Ink armor is basically like an additional 100 life. Think of it like the armor in single player mode, only it does not regenerate and only temporary.

Got it. The description is misleading then. Once you use it, does it stay on until you lose it? Or is their a time limit too? Seems like it would be ok if there's no time limit, but I have to get used to that it takes a while to kick in.

Seems it's only 30 life not 100. There's a time limit like any other special while still intact. But if it breaks, it's gone regardless of time limit.

The new squid amiibo is awesome too

Yep it is a great amiibo. Very happy with it :)

Also love how easy and nice they work with the Switch. Will buy more of these.
That's it. I'm buying all the amiibos! Except the Callie and Marie amiibos will be a beast to obtain. Which sucks cause I want them the most.

Now imagine a Marina and Pearl amiibo.

All the new amiibos are 10/10. The Squid looks phenomenal, even (and it's HUGE!).

So, these past stages in Splat Zones seem super prone to Knockouts. Like
super prone to knockouts. The last game I was able to sneak in was also a KO.

Further down are seven more KOs, four were losses. Not trying to hide them, just screen capped the top. :p

(Don't ask why I'm +11, I went +0, +1, then it jumped me to +10 despite having two cracks on the tank and not doing too well; honestly think it's glitched)

I know that Splattershot is considered really easy now, but I'm having a lot of fun with it. I'm determined to actually learn how to aim in firefights, and I felt Jr wasn't helping me towards that goal. Not dropping the gun entirely (NEVER!), but I am trying to stay away from it for a tiny bit. My general habit with it is to get right up on people to use the wide spray patterns. But it means I suck at aiming at anything not in my face. :(

I believe the 3 new ones give the same stuff in games as the 3 older ones however so there is always that. Personally for now I plan max 1 amiibo per game. Need to get one for Mario Kart but can't decide on which one to get, decisions...

Gotcha, well I'm still using the starter kit for now, but I doubt I'll be sticking with it as my special after that. Thanks for all the info everybody.

I'm a bit disappointed that it seems like gyro controls dtill have an advantage, but I guess that is to be expected. I just don't want to use them. If I'm playing in my bed I don't wanna have to be tilting it all around.

I can't believe that some people still haven't figured out that you can still move a little bit when you are dead in Salmon Run. There is no need to call for help like a madman from somewhere on the other side of the map...

There's also a short moment of invulnerability after your Ink Armor breaks, I believe. Super short, but there.

So
Freaking
Annoying

It's horrible when they're in a dumb position that nobody should go to for an attempted rescue. Bring yourself to US, dang it!

Nah, Splat 2 amiibo unlock different stuff. The recolored Splat 1 amiibo unlock the same as the originals, though.

Nah, the new Splatoon 2 amiibo give different rewards, but they're similar to the Splatoon 1 amiibo rewards.

The S2 inking boy, for example, gives a Ninja outfit, compared to the S1 boy's Samurai outfit.

The S2 girl gives a different school uniform and hair clip.

The S2 squid gives a different looking power armour.

Oh. It looked the same lol think it was on the official Nintendo website, I must not have looked closely enough.

I believe the old ones are still in stores here, hmm nah I better not. Need to buy more games as well

Hehe, where does this idea come from that gyro controls == tilting all around. Turn the sensitivity to max and you barely have to move your hands.

Also, you don't need to use it all the time. I'm trying to learn how to use the Right Stick for horizontal aim, and the gyro is just there for fine tuning stuff. You don't solely use either method.

Also you can still collect golden eggs. Most people seem to miss that fact.

KO bonanza

I don't get it. I had no cracks and won pretty much every match but 1 from the bottom of A- with me being at the top of my team every round and I only went up to A.

Wait, what?

Max motion sensitivity is really comfortable to me with guns like Jr and Aerospray. If mid-range I use 2.5 motion. If I'm a Sniper I go to -1.5 on motion and -1 on sticks. Or in other words, as JershJopstin says above, it's really all preference. And the preference can even vary in the same person from gun to gun.

Do you gain more experience in Ranked mode compared to Regular Battle (Turf Wars)?

If you win, yeah. Losses give a lot less. On average I think you'll get more with Ranked. (Actually, let someone else confirm this, I'm just going off of how things worked in 1.)

K N O C K O U T
They certainly let you cram in more games!

And dude, it really is confusing with the way things work. I don't think anybody can get it. Nintendo probably doesn't even get it lol. I went undefeated in C- Zones but didn't get but a plain old C. Jumped to C+ with losses in Tower Control. TBH I didn't pay much attention to the rest, but those stood out. Wish they'd just tell us what the heck goes on in the background.

Hmm, most snipers I see say they play on low sensitivity. Yet, my aim seems to improve the higher I put it. Strange.

I think I've been doing similarly this salmon run as the last one, despite the better loadout.
Might be because it's the first time playing on this map, but it can get way trickier depending on spawn locations.
What it all comes down in the end though, is fucking flyfishes. What an absolute scourge

Whaaaat had no idea ranks go that high!

I wonder what this has to do with Marina. That's her icon, and the stage seems to be set in Octo Valley

You are traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into an Octoling land of imagination. Next stop, the Mystery Zone!

What if she's actually from a dimension where Octolings are the heroes, and Inklings the villains.

I went from C- to C+ winning most but losing a few as well. Then I switched to Octobrush, won like 99% of my matches with insane performances (29 kills once, rarely fewer than 12) being the #1 in kills and the one who died the least, holding the splatzone with an iron grip...and have reached A going up only one rank at a time :S

https://twitter.com/SplatoonJP/status/891946780765470726 something new for splatfests ?

no translation yet

looks like a rave like version of a map

EDIT- its a new splatfest only stage called shifty station

We've got new news concerning the Splatfest!

In addition to the two regular turf war stages selected, during Splatfests only a special stage called "Mystery Zone" will also open up.

How mysterious... this stage actually shifts forms for every Splatfest!

I think that's what that last bit says but I need a double confirmation. Anyone help?

thats a play on the last boss in the first game, the octolings are lying and trying to pass off their defeat as a concert where octavio and the sisters were performing

but considering the twilight zone deal it could just be as if that was real

Why do you think I put quotes around concert? And I don't think that scroll is propaganda. Most of the world is oblivious to what happens in single player and misinterprets what happened.
Marina thought it was a concert and it made her want to become an idol.

Max sensitivity is life.

It's really all just preference, though.
Well, I reinstalled the game and getting a pro controller later today, got the dock out of the box too. Dock is at least a nice charger stand so going to keep it anyway.

At the very least will give it another chance and see if the experience is better than it was in handheld.

theres nothing to back anything up considering this games lore is basically based on assumptions and vague correlation but im pretty sure the octolings would want to cover that up and this is an easy way of doing it for the skeptical

if the world doesnt know whats happening its really easy for them to just spin things like that, if any of the 2 races know anything about anything thats happening it would be the octolings
which is why its listed in an octoling news article would be my assumption

To answer the XP in Turf War vs Ranked question definitively:

In Turf War, you have 3 potential sources of XP:
-Time bonus, 100 per minute (this will always be 300, since Turf War can't end early)
-Turfing bonus, up to 500 for 500p (easily hit)
-Win bonus, which is always 600

For a maximum 1400 XP.

In Ranked, there's 4 potential sources; however, only 3 are obtainable per match:
-Time bonus again, 100 per minute; goes up to 500 for lasting a full match (you don't earn this if you secure a knockout).
-Progress bonus, varies (this is points you progress X5; only earned in matches with no knockout on either side)
-Win bonus, which is 1500 here
-Knockout bonus, 1000

The max here is 2500 from Win + Knockout (remember, no time or progress bonus when you get a knockout).

So, if we're just looking at max, ranked is the easy winner here. But what about in other scenarios?

-Let's say you always get the 500 point bonus in Turf War, because that's honestly not even remotely difficult. You'll get a consistent 1400 for winning and 800 for losing.

-Ranked is where things get interesting. If you win with no knockout, you'll get 500 time bonus + 1500 win bonus + progress bonus, which depends on your score, for a range of 2005 - 2495.

-If you lose a Ranked battle, you'll get 500 + progress in no knockout; this will range from 500 - 990.

-If you get knocked out, you'll just get your measly time bonus. This can be straight up 0 to the full 500 (But wait! You can't get a 500 bonus for 5 minutes if you get knocked out, can you? Actually, you can get knocked out in overtime, believe it or not. It happens if the losing team had 1 point to go. I've done it, it's satisfying).

So, where does this leave us? Well, it depends on your W/L ratio and how your ranked battles tend to go. In general, though, with a positive W/L ratio, Ranked is better, and with about even or negative, Turf War is better.

Ranked is in general better for cash once you hit B or so, but that's another (albeit simpler) breakdown.

EDIT: Well damn, one from the bottom of the page. If this was helpful, feel free to quote it.

Whar does the stage percentage on top of the win percentages on splatnet mean? I have two stages at 100% win rate in Tower Control, but I can't tell how many times I played them.
