Neymar looks Set to Smash World Record Signing for PSG for £197 million ($253m)

French reports were saying Liverpool nuked a £90 millionbid today for Coutinho from Barca today but Liverpool reporters saying a second bid never came in.

Dembele always seemed the more likely buy for Barca, IMO. Coutinho will probably leave next summer if he wants to but it doesn't look like he wants to go or they want to sell this summer.

PSG could win CL. It's definitely not that unlikely as some of you want to paint it.

Other than that: Fuck FFP.
I think PSG can get a shot at truly challenging it if they get a good keeper and a more capable coach than Emery comes along and gets the best out of the squad. It's very unlikely they win it right now, even if you take Neymar into account.

I hope he goes to PSG just so that Liverpool loses Coutinho. Maybe not this season, but I think they'll let him go next summer if the interest from Barca persists.

I feel this will make football more exciting in general. It increases the profile of PSG and the French league while Barca's profile and popularity stays the same. Plus Neymar is young enough that if he wants to go back to a bigger league he can easily do so in 3 years. Real Madrid, Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City, Bayern would all take him when he's 29.

The "shitty League" Like some of you like to Call it has done better in this year champions'league than the mighty premier League, whose teams spends millions of pounds to buy every decent Players that Plays in the ligue 1 every summer.

Who does Barca get now?

Dybala?
They can fuck right off.

Going by what I read, I think Coutinho is open to a move to Barca, but doesn't want to force a move because he's feeling fine at Liverpool. Démbelé has openly stated he'd love to play for Barca, so I think that move is inevitable in a few years when they come knocking on Dortmund's door.

I know right?

Like Hazard and Kanté aren't coming from there and Arsenal isn't just a Ligue 1 factory.

If the Ligue 1 had the same spending power as the Premiere league most of the french team would easily beat the english one just off the strength of their youth system.

In the future absolutely, but not after his first season in Dortmund. They can fuck right off.

Barca will likely go for Coutinho.

Makes no sense from a sporting point of view for him. He will be playing with worse players in a worse league. Don't think he has much chance of the Ballon d'or now. Has he even won the champions league yet? If he was a bit more patient he would inevitably replace Messi as the focal point of the team in a few years as Messi ages.

Financially the deal probably makes sense for all parties. As a status symbol this will really put psg on the map.

Agreed but what I saw this year from the youth national teams of England was pretty great. Very successful.

There's just one problem: They have to actually play at their clubs.

Lol at people who belittle the Ligue1, can't wait for Paris or Monaco to won the Champions league.

There's no denying the money factor keeps the PL ina position to poach the best players from elsewhere. But that said, Ligue 1 gets over 3 weeks off over the winter, their teams are going to be fresher. Also it's not like PSG doesn't have money...

The PL has 6 top level teams and the quality of the worst sides in the league is generally a lot stronger than Spain, Germany, Italy, and France.

Even if you want to go by UEFA league coefficients based on European matches, Spain is the top, then Germany, England, Italy, with France in 5th. Also on the rankings France is closer to Russia, Portugal, and Belgium than it is Italy in 4th.

Neymar going to France will get him all the goals but if the motivation for the move is to get out of Messi's shadow, there will always be that caveat that he's doing it in a worst league. If it's for money - fair enough.

Lol at people who belittle the Ligue1, can't wait for Paris or Monaco to won the Champions league.

Qatar bought a lot of good players for PSG and they may win the CL if you wait enough, but the league is mediocre compared to Spain, England and Italy.

Neymar bets it all on the CL because destroying teams around France on the weekends will matter to few people.

Going to play in a pointless league is the worst part of it

Modern football sucks.

Neymar going to play out his prime in a sub-par league. Yay modern football.

(i just quoted this three but there are much more)

lmao. spanish league is relevant because of Barcelona and Real Madrid money. Money makes the football world go around.

Also, Barcelona, the greatest youth club of the world, today is able to compete with the best teams cause they bought Suarez and Neymar, both at astronomical values.

Outside of very few exceptions during some runs, all big clubs are competitive because they spend effortlessly. Stop whining.

Real Madrid. Barcelona. PSG. Premier League Clubs. It's all the same shit. Barça fans discovered fpp. Don't cry over fpp when the reason football became the shithole it is today is cause of how big historical clubs, like Barcelona, behave.

Fucking Barcelona and Real Madrid deal solely and individually their tv contracts just to fuck up every other spanish club.

Fuck them. Hope Neymar is happy wherever he is.
Can someone explain this to me because I've never understood it: Barcelona is the one who gets the $253 million, right? Not the player? Barcelona didn't make Neymar a great player, he already was one, why do they get the huge windfall from it?

Why is this a thing? From a quick Google, Neymar's actual salary is only 10 million Euro, so about 5% of his transfer fee.

Is there ever a point where a footballer gets free agency?

a) Neymar has a work contract with Barcelona that needs to be respected. The contract rescission does not tend to have a set value, which allows the club to negotiate. Sometimes they set a value for the contract rescission, which in this case it's the 220 M€

b) Barcelona has the "sports rights" of Neymar, which means that they will only transfer those rights (to the Federation in which he will pay) if a team pays a big sum (usually the negotiated transfer fee)

I believe in Spain all players have a release clause. I could be wrong.

We could all debate it in the Footy thread

The 253 million could be partially for the agent, the player, the team that is losing the player, it could even be for the player's parents and perhaps even for the player's or teams sponsors. The only way to know for sure is typically when the transfer documents detailing the payment is leaked. if you are curious to see an example of this google Neymar's original deal to go from Santos to Barcelona which was highly highly controversial at the time. In that case The difference between the reported amount and the real amount spent was about double I believe. Also the fee typically does not include bonuses. And naymars income is separate from this transfer amount. Essentially in football there's very little that they cannot include as part of a transfer.

As a Liverpool fan this makes me extremely uneasy. I mean I know Coutinho will go eventually, I'm more worried about the utter shite we will inevitably replace him with. Liverpool do not have a good track record of replacing their star players recently.

Torres - Carroll
Alonso - Aquilani
Mascherano - Paulsen
Suarez - Balotelli

Lol at people who belittle the Ligue1, can't wait for Paris or Monaco to won the Champions league.
Monaco just got completely raided and Emery has shown time and again he has no idea what he's doing in the Champions League. Neymar ain't gonna change that.

Please don't come for Hazard, Barca. He's hurt anyways :p

Hey we did buy Suarez at the same time as Carroll.... god that list is depressing.

This is a disgusting transfer because it makes a mockery of FFP and is probably against the rules. Somehow the sugar daddy owners of PSG will cook the books to make the numbers add up. I look forward to seeing the upshot of the La Liga president's complaint to UEFA which he promised he'd make. As somebody who prefers Real Madrid to Barcelona, this is good news as it weakens Barca. Make no mistake that Neymar will be wasting his considerable talents in France and should be in a better league i.e. Premier League.

You're going to be waiting a while my friend.

Lets just call it what it is: Ligue 1 teams are basically just feeder teams for the Premier League.

Falcao is doing great though?

21 goals in 29 matches last season in ligue 1 and 7 goals in 10 matches in the Champions League

I mean, why are you ignoring the issues he had for the two seasons before that? He was literal shit for two seasons. He became a meme because if it. I am still blown away he has managed to recover from it.

Transfer fees and agent fees are getting more insane each year. Some thing needs to be done because it's unsustainable.

And fuck Qatar. Happy to spend this amount on neymar while can't even provine liveable working conditions for those slaves building the stadiums.

You know Qatar Gov has nothing to do with the PSG right? that's like blaming UK's gov because the Red Sox would spend such amount trying to win the world series while they can't provide proper services for the disabled.

Modern football sucks.
Yup. Getting harder each season to actually watch it.
Moving further away from the sport with each season passing.

Those numbers are crazy - as a Barca fan its sucks to see him goal but i can understand why he doesnt wanna stay in Messis shadow forever. And the amount of money he is earning is crazy.

Damn.
Messi will only play on that level for 3-4 years, so it's not exactly a huge amount of time where he could also learn more from him and grow further to establish his own status.
It's all about the money for him and and father.

Ligue 1 is just not a big league. This move is 100% because of money.

Good riddance and thanks for the 222m euros.
There aren't that many players that are moving without any monetary driving force. It's always gonna be about money first and foremost.
Otherwise Pogba would have stayed at Juve to have a better shot at winning the CL.

That doesn't even include his wages, PSG is ultimately spending nearly half a billion dollars for one player.
It's always an interesting topic, because barely any players is gonna return that amount of money with his influence both during the games and outside as marketing object.
Therefore it's hard to justify the costs for a normal club, but PSG is a plastic club and the whole topic becomes obsolete.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/jul/31/psg-confident-deal-barcelona-neymar-plan-unveiling

Expected to be announced on Wednesday!

Wrong ? Right ? Financial Fair Play completely made pointless?

This does not even including his wages what are 30+ million a year....
Financial Fair Play was pointless from the start and the whole procedure was an even bigger joke when they softened the rules.
Add on top that these clubs take every opportunity to use loopholes, tax heavens and shit like that.
Unless FIFA and UEFA really tackle the problem that clubs with nearly unlimited resources that are used like toys by some rich cunts are taken down, it's not gonna stop here.
The gap between the clubs that actually have to earn the money they're spending and those clubs that are just a hobby from some wealthy buisness guys is only gonna get bigger.
It's pretty disgusting that traditional clubs with a long history could be erased from the footy stage whenever one of those wealthy cunts decides to stop his involvement.

Falcao is doing great though?

21 goals in 29 matches last season in ligue 1 and 7 goals in 10 matches in the Champions League.
He still wasted precious time at United & Chelsea when he needed to get as much time on the pitch as possible to get back in form. Such a shame :/ Hopefully Monaco will bounce back after losing that many players.

I would compare it to Bundesliga. In Europe you get Bayern always at the top and once every 3-4 years a Dortmund team that ends up selling all the players to Bayern. PSG has built a good team even before Neymar. If they keep bringing money on the table they could be constantly among the top 10 in Europe with Monaco and Lyon popping up from time to time.
You got no clue about the Bundesliga.

Why does there have to be something other than money when someone is making employment decisions?
There isn't, but it's still pretty sad seeing so many talented players going to China for example, easily destroying alot of their future career potential only for money.
It's not like other clubs are only paying them peanuts.
Surely a valuable option for older players.

Dortmund is not gonna sell this season, unless Barca really shells out the majority of the Neymar money.
Barca is under pressure because everybody knows how much cash they got around, which is gonna make the possible replacement only more expensive.

Lol at people who belittle the Ligue1, can't wait for Paris or Monaco to won the Champions league.
They're saying the truth though.
Compared to a few years ago the league has grown quite a bit, but it's still nowhere near the top leagues.
However, they're producing alot of tremendous talented players lately and the future looks pretty good for alot of clubs.

France has a lot of talent right now. To me they have an amazing team and favorites to win the next world cup.

Ousmane Dembele, Mbappe, Pogba, Griezmann, Matuidi, Umtiti, Varane, Rabiot, Mendy just to name a few

They even have the luxury to not include Benzema on their squad due to that blackmail scandal.

Problem most of that talent plays in other, bigger leagues. Neymar could raise awareness by joining PSG but there's no competing with the big leagues specially the Premier. It'll remain a second rate league in Europe even with Neymar.

PSG is going to make it pass the quarter finals this year. This is quite the pickup for them. Honestly there's a lot of talent on this team, and they are making a push.

European soccer has gotten so stupid. It blows my mind how sports in Europe are the Republican dream while they tend to be more "socialized" here in North America.

I don't blame Neymar for leaving. I wouldn't want to spent my time with tax evasion criminals or uncivilized floppers either.

I could have sworn PSG signed Alexis? Aren't they sort of a big money team that spends a lot but has never won the CL?

The thing is PSG haven't really spent big bucks on a transfer before. Other teams have spent far more. Their most expensive transfer was Cavani if I remember correctly.

It's weird because there's always this notion many people have that PSG spunk money on transfers but they really don't. But my god can they lol

They'll never win the Champions league any time soon either. Not with Emery in charge, he's terrible. Should have kept Blanc.

Last season was a disaster to be honest. They pissed away a big lead in the Champions league and couldn't even secure the title...

Credit to Monaco though, fucking goal machine.

The "shitty League" Like some of you like to Call it has done better in this year champions'league than the mighty premier League, whose teams spends millions of pounds to buy every decent Players that Plays in the ligue 1 every summer.
.

Yeah if I'm honest it pisses me off when people say the Premier League is the best league in the world, and some people even go as far to say that players aren't really good enough unless they can hack the league.

The main thing with the premier league is any team can lose, there aren't really dominant teams compared to other countries where it's usually the same handful of teams that are up there, and most matches are a done deal. This coming season I can see 6 teams that could legitimately win the title. Can you honestly say that about other leagues?

On the main stage English teams haven't done much recently though. Last seasons Champions league was an embarrassment for English teams. Arsenal fan tv was good fun to watch though lol

With all that said though I can see the Premier League finally ending up as one of the top leagues in the world where the best players come to play. In terms of managers the Premier league has a fair few top managers, and ultimately things can change in Football. Look at Italy I remember the times when all the best players in the world were there. But it hasn't really been a "go to" destination for many players. That's not to say there aren't any top players, there absolutely are, but not like before.

Like that wouldn't await him at PSG.

Would you care to elaborate the part about "socialized" and the "Republican dream" ?
