Dumbest scene in TV History?

The OA scene has so much WTF happening. Why is the lady from The Office trucking across school to intercept a shooter? Why doesn't the shooter just gun down the entire group? Why does he even stop shooting?

The fact that the "dance" is outright stupid/terrible only makes things worse (or better, depending on how you look at it).

It's definitely not as hilarious as the dog eating the organ donor's heart, but it's every bit as dumb of a plot contrivance.

Yep, I've shown this scene to friends without giving them any context and it always gets huge laughs.

Here is the ridiculous scene for those wondering:
The OA - Episode 8 (Season Finale, so be warned that it contains significant spoilers)

It looks ridiculous without the context of the rest of the show, sure

I really enjoyed The OA, it's something unique and special and I'm really sad more people didn't watch it, and even sadder that many people probably spoiled themselves on the whole thing by watching this scene

I just skimmed the wiki for the show and there's no way the whole plot wasn't written to fuck with someone specific

Someone in the same page said it's even worse w/ context tho :(

Probably that scene in Futurama where the dog dies or the scene in Fresh Prince where Will Smith ask why his dad doesn't want him. You would have to be the stupidest rube in the world if you let yourself be emotionally manipulated by such drivel.

These are terrible examples

Yeah this definitely isn't gonna backfire

The true dumbest scene in The Newsroom is how, after an entire series of characters learning about responsibility and accountability, and an entire season where the Maggie character learns to spread her wings and that she might be happier working in the field, the Jim character gets promoted in the last episode and IMMEDIATELY abuses the power of his newfound position to offer his girlfriend (Maggie) a super cushy and convenient job that she doesn't even want that'll keep her in the office so they can keep wasting the company's time by making doe eyes at each other instead of getting any work done.

Fuck Jim.

I really liked The Newsroom, even when it was unbearably preachy and up its own ass, but that moment basically made it so that Jim hadn't learned or grown at all over the course of the entire show, and then - it ends.

...Isn't that the cafeteria from Greendale (Community)?
This becomes 10x funnier if you imagine it as a deleted episode of Community.

"Durr, I don't experience emotions and that makes me better than you."
C'mon, man, at least tell us how having friends makes us weak so we can overcome you at the end of the after-school special with the power of togetherness.

I don't want to get banned.

I went through that. So just stop.

I'm surprised no one has posted the car advertisement in one episode of Breaking Bad. There's a scene where Walt goes out and buys himself and his son new cars, I can't remember the make right now but there was a really cheesy scene where they drive them around to dubstep.

Edit: Just found it, they don't actually drive around, which makes it even more ridiculous. Walt's very excited to be parked in my driveway in a 300C. Besides the editing being super corny, it also felt out of place with the show's tone. You're meant to pity Walt, not think he's a badass. Using his character to sell cars feels contradictory to that. Hopefully they put the money they got from it to good use, it's always stood out to me as the lamest scene in the show.

Was going to post it but Speevy did below.

Dude this scene is fucking hilarious, something only Rian Johnson da god could get away with. It's obviously played up for laughs, something you're somehow not getting. I loved it then and I love it now.

Jesus Christ, Newsroom. As for NCIS, I personally think they should get a pass for the hacking scene. They clearly knew what they were doing and that it was extremely ridiculous.

Wtf?

Maybe I'm biased, but I saw absolutely nothing wrong with either of those. Especially the Fresh Prince one as it hit close to home.

UPDATE ON HEART-EATING DOG:

I had to do a bit more research to get some context for that scene, and read this article:

Dan is waiting in the hospital for his new heart. He’s pretty jazzed about it. Also present at the hospital: a drug dealer and a dog who we learn has just consumed three ounces of “nice Lebanese hash.”

The dog was high out of his mind on pot! Holy shit, that makes the scene even better.

Lmao, the dog even had a backstory, epic.

I remember watching this whole series with my wife and rewinding this scene over and over again because it was so insane. During the whole series I was mad that I had to sit through all those seasons of terrible television for the woman I loved, but in those moments it was all worth it.
