Secret of Mana Remake (PC/Vita/PS4, February 15th, 2018) Trailer

I think it would look alright if there were some shadows

I think you are right. Shadows / Lighting would give it a lot more depth that I think it is missing, and ultimately making people see the visuals as "cheap". Overall though, I have no problem with how the game looks, but that could be because I'm looking at the game critically and I don't have a past fondness for it at all

Looks better than Adventures of Mana, but it sounds like the enhancements are once again strictly graphical and presentational, even though the original game has some major design flaws. Hard for me to get too excited about that.

At least it's coming to Steam this time.

IDK, seeing the reactions in this thread, I guess I have pretty low standards. :lol

Never in my life I'd expect something with the production values of FFVII:R for the Seiken Densetsu series, not the same ballpark.

Did you ever look at the box art, concept art, or manual for the original version of this game?

Again, I'm gonna have to draw your attention to the word very. Extremely works too.

Mucho.

Like, the Neptunia games are looking at this remake and be all like, "Tone it down, a bit much."

Dyluck will finally be the secret 4th player.

Book it!

Nope, that would take away one of the times you get the ultimate feels music

Speaking of that, the music is more important to me in this game than the graphics, as long as they get that right then I'm happy

I screamed.
I audibly screamed.
I woke up everyone in the house.
I don't give a shit.
Holy fuck.
Legend of the Holy Fuck
Day negative one.
Seiken 3 after this, but it needs to do well.
In for Steam.

Don't even mind the voice acting.
We're finally getting a new translation.
The bosses in 3D.
The music remastered.
More people will be able to play this incredible game.

I'm in. I haven't played the original in a long time, but loved it as a kid. This sounds like a fun game to play with my wife.

Yeah....

There's too many games after FW 3.60 on Vita that I'm missing due to Henkaku. Fuck Henkaku gonna buy this, Dragon quest builders, Digimon etc

I don't like the art style but this is my favorite game ever so I'm in. Hoping for Seiken 3 next, even if it is the same art style again.

I've seen some of the in game stuff and actually like it more than I thought I would. I'm sold.

Just hope we can use text instead of the bad voice acting

People who love Secret of Mana, how does it compare to Ys Oath / Origin?

Boss fights, difficulty and combat systems?

Always seems rather slow and dull to me.

I'm actually really excited about this. However, I don't know how I feel about the dopey English voice acting (I'm a native English speaker). Day 1 tho.

It's nothing like Ys, the draw of the game is the music and the locations you go through, not the combat. It's not a difficult game, even if you don't abuse the broken magic system

Unless they knock it out of the park with fixing the combat, I really don't think this needed a remake, especially looking like this. I doubt the combat will be that much better either

The original game is extremely buggy. It's high on my list of games that need a remake just to be playable with peace of mind.
It'll also be nice to play a version of the game where the melody channels in the music don't cut out to play sound effects.

ugly as sin...

it is so hard to remake it with legend of mana engine ?

The details in those backgrounds and some of those sprites are crazy good. It would take a ton of work and wouldn't be simple or cheap in the slightest. I wouldn't be surprised if we never saw anything 2D with the detail of those kinds of games like Legend of Mana or Frontier Saga 2 from Square Enix ever again.

Secret of Mana is my favorite game of all time, but this doesn't interest me for some reason. Not a fan of the Nintendo DS artstyle kind of remake like FF3,4,5 etc.

If they fixed the combat, I might be in. SoM's hit detection and magic spam are hilariously broken.

Did you play the iOS version? They added frames to magic spells so you can't spam, but they completely broke physical attacks. Evade is through the roof so most attacks miss. As opposed to SNES where hit detection was wonky but at least when you landed a hit it didn't miss 90% of the time.

Secret of Mana was one of my favorite games on SNES, so I almost shit my pants when I read the thread title. However, that art style isn't really doing anything for me. I'll give it a chance, but, as of now, it looks underwhelming. :-/

The engine is not really the issue here, but creating Legend of Mana quality assets certainly is quite difficult. Legend of Mana's pixel art quality is to this day still some of the best in the business, and came from a time when many of the best artists in the industry were still specialising in this sort of thing. Since 2D pixel art hasn't been the dominant visual direction for decades, the talent pool since then inevitably shrank to move on to other specialisations. The Mana series in particular sort of grew a house style over the years, and the people that developed this style are no longer employed at Square Enix.

Secret of Mana's my favorite game ever, but I'm gonna need more than crappy 3D graphics to buy this instead of playing my SNES copy. Like, this being a proper remake, maybe they could put some effort into it and implement a lot of the cut content/ideas they had originally planned. Or if they release that fancy limited edition here. Then I'll buy it because I'm a consumer whore...

Yeah...one of my favorite SNES games for sure, but the combat especially needs an overhaul for modern sensibilities.

And yeah artstyle is shit compared to the original.

I'm surprised they decided against NSwitch.

I have a PSV but I don't feel like undusting it now that I have a Switch.

Reminds me of the iOS version of Adventures of Mana. I got to finish it. It was pretty good, but it was mainly 3D objects, characters, and etc. nothing really lush.

I can't get over how ugly this is. I take back what I said about being glad a new generation can experience this game. Try scoring a SNES classic edition instead.

That...looks terrible! o_o

I don't know why I even expected the cover art come to life but getting generic chibi artstyle instead is a bit much, haha.

A remake of the greatest game ever made in the history of the medium? Yes please. Even if it's terrible it means more people learn about the GOAT.

Keep your FF7 Remake, this one is all I need (And the Trilogy to release here in North America so I can play #2 finally)

I paid good money for this Dynex!
I still haven't actually played this game, but uh... I'm glad I have the Super Nintendo version, because this looks like butt.

One of my first ever memorable games of all time. There's not much to see, but I love the fact that they stuck with the aesthetic of the original.

Got no idea what the haters are disliking. It looks bright and simple and wonderful.
