Oh fucking please. This isn't WWll. If it had landed and hurt people then you have a point but this is fucking the same as usual.

So the eye witness reports of "I could hear/see it" from ordinary people are the same as usual?

I'm not even saying it'll start WW3. But saying "calm down, lol" is idiotic. There's a lot of people in Japan petrified tonight, and some asshole in another country shrugging it off is some fucked up shit.

Must fucking suck to live in SK with these dicks constantly testing the waters and potentially ruining it for everyone.

Now you are just confusing me. Where is talk of options coming from? I was replying about NK upping the stakes!?

Bottom line is the NK regime are pushing their luck and I think after all these years they should now face consequences. Maybe destroy a few of their military bases or something?

This leads to tens of millions dead. NK will escalate any attack on it by the US into nuclear war.

It will not start a nuclear war if not attacked

The threat is real. It has always been real, and it will always be real.

Don't let anybody tell you otherwise.

I'm saying talking about starting wars with nuclear powered nations like it's nothing just because people are scared is stupid as fuck. No one died. If we start a war over this millions will die. Is it that hard to see the perils in such an attitude?

This is a massive escalation from NK.

Firing missiles offshore is dickwaving, firing a missile which passes over another country is the sort of thing that starts wars.

If this is met with nothing stronger than harsh words and increased sanctions then NK will be emboldened further, and that will lead to a true catastrophe sooner or later. This aggressive act demands a defensive retaliation.

I feel sorry for Japan. They are in a shitty position right now. Being diplomatically and physically between Kim and Trump must be terrifying.

Thats because they can only report on what is being told. if it's one liners they have nothing else to report..

Who is to say that it wasnt intercepted and that was the reason it broke into three pieces?

We need to know more - and we'll find out once more information is released.

I mean I remember where it was 24/7 news years ago not segmented. Like all stations we have here have schedules to stick to, like talking about the damn papers for tomorrow.

Fake Edit: CNN talking about the Hurticane now. Atleast that's more important than "Live Sport"

This. The "calm down lul" crew should think about the situation for a second. This missile flew over inhabited territory for crying out loud. Just because it wasn't you who's living there you don't have to downplay this.

Sure. Totally no difference between actually killing people vs aiming missiles over a country, AGAIN. Tell me how quickly we went to war after North Korea literally killed South Korean marines and civilians with artillery? In the same year NK torpedoed a ship and killed 46 South Korean sailors.

Fucking take the time to understand the circumstances surrounding the NK issue and you'll realize why escalation on this issue is a lot different than most others. Even with Trump added to the mix.

It's like you guys are rooting for war or something.

Yeah my bad, continue to let nk artillery sk, torpedo ships, launch monthly missiles near / over countries.

Even if a missile lands, the situation will still be sensitive, nothing should be done then either.

So you're cool with like 1,000,000+ (in a best case scenario) SK people and maybe 5,000,000 NK people dying?

No, but it's inevitable.

Delaying the inevitable simply raises the casualty counts for when it really does happen.

So you got two options: Just do nothing and wait for North Korea to strike and kill first -OR- strike now, take out as many launchers and silos as you can as quickly as you can and hope you can limit the casualties.

In fact, when it comes to the egos of madmen, doing nothing in response to their threats and displays of strength only emboldens them to be more threatening.

Another question is how North Korea was able to acquire Soviet rocket know-how and parts and if something can be done about that.

Apparently it isn't right and normal for people to be scared and irrational because of a missile flying over their country but everytime the american president makes some dumb statement we have 90+ page threads on how it's going to change world society from now on and how dangerous he could be.

I personally don't get that line of thinking. Even if NK has done this before, this can legitimately be a cause of concern for people. It's a missile flying over populated land.

I'm not sure what North Korea's end game is here. I mean, does Kim Jong Un actually think he can win this?

Which has happened before.

Its not "calm down" as in "nothings wrong"

Its "lets take a measured approach and not scream that the world is ending or we should start a war"

They've already done it.

Killing what they have isn't what that poster was implying

Seems like China doesn't have any reason to do anything about this
I find this focus the US puts and China for this issue laughable. China has shown time and time again they don’t give a fuck and even ignore the sanctions yet everyone always talks about China.

Hell they even said they’d support NK if the US attacks first

Sorry but they have zero means of defense against anyone if they attack first. Their generals aren't stupid. It's provocation to get themselves in the news again. If they wanted war? They could have *easily* attacked any city they wanted with that one missile attack. What they ARE doing is reminding Japan they are capable of it. But again it's still not a war move.

But a lot of people are right though - we're all comfortably rationalizing the situation, but we're not the ones with a missile flying over our heads. Hopefully those that have been dealing with NK for ages understand what kind of dance this is.

Has NK officially said anything about the missile yet?

then fucking say why, Oriel, instead of just admonishing.

yeah. this went from a poke to a shove

I pointed out that this shit has happened before and those running around in a panic need to calm down. Jesus!

The thread broke when the missile was in the air. No one knew where it was headed.

Of course we knew, it was always headed for the sea as NK has literally done this before on multiple occasions. Kim isn't going to attack the least populated island of Japan as a prelude to war.

So what happens when NK eventually kill people? Is a response viable then?

As inhumane as it sounds, it depends on the amount of dead.

They already killed SK servicemen with artillery and we didn't reignite the war, people are quick to forget.

We also would need China's blessing, unless people want the entire world to die.

Everytime I read stuff like this I remember this quote from Machiavelli:

"The Romans never allowed a trouble spot to remain simply to avoid going to war over it, because they knew that wars don't just go away, they are only postponed to someone else's advantage. Therefore, they made war with Philip and Antiochus in Greece, in order not to have to fight them in Italy... They never went by that saying which you constantly hear from the wiseacres of our day, that time heals all things. They trusted rather their own character and prudence — knowing perfectly well that time contains the seeds of all things, good as well as bad."
