Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

Lost Legacy doesn't basically use the same assets as Uncharted 4.

There's probably more (and higher quality) brand new assets in TLL than most full-priced AAA games.

so regarding the Game Monkey King: Hero Is Back
while it is co-developed by Sony, they don't publish the game & most importantly don't own the IP. (So not really a First Party Game)

So i can't really put it in the First Party/Second Party Section.

I just add it to the other chinese Projects if you guys don't mind

Good point. Yeah, that makes the most sense.

I guess now we must update Matterfall and Lost Legacy. Next two weeks, Everybody's Golf and Knack 2 will have to be added to current games.

You'll be busy for a few weeks. =P

hmmm, IDK man. Those China Hero Project games have nothing to do with first party (some of them are even out already on other platforms), while this one does have some connection to SIE WWS.

I still think that Oasis is publishing because of some chinese property law they need a Chinese company behind it (something similar happens with movies), but its just a guess

I think PS5 will see late gen PS4 remasters. Example Last of Us 2, Death Stranding in 4k/60

But agree if the PS5 plays PS4 titles, remasters will be rare.
Not remaster but PS5 patch support for sure (paid from some Devs who knows), also with it being BC it can also play all the Pro patched PS4 games on it too which is nice, at least it should maybe we'll see

Only remasters I expect is PS3 and older games while for PS4 games just patch in some quick enhancements on top of it using some of PS5 hardware

Oasis Games announced they're handling worldwide distribution, not just Chinese distribution, and as far as I'm aware, that doesn't happen with movies. Add to that the fact that Oasis has already published a few PSN/PSVR games in the west and it's a licensed property and I wouldn't really doubt what Oasis Games are saying.

Without any further clarifications, Sony's involvement in this game seems pretty minimal. They've said SIE are developing it but there's been no mention of Japan Studio or anything. The only developer specifically named is Hexa Drive. So my take is Hexa Drive are developing it and Oasis Games gave Sony a bucket full of money to help supervise development of their first attempt at a AAA game.

yeah, sure its a unique and still unclear situation

maybe it is better to hold judgement of what this really is for now

Sure but for now, the China Hero Project section is probably the best fit for it.

Though TBH, it seems a bit weird to have a specific China Hero Project section when there's a bunch of other games Sony are helping bring west too, including Nioh and Malicious.

Eh they specially mention it being developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment and Hexa Drive several times now.

My guesses for the rest of 2017 is that Detroit: Become Human and Dreams get gameplay videos and release dates at Paris Games Week. Also expecting a gameplay video for Horizon: Zero Dawn's The Frozen Wilds DLC.

At PSX, it will be about God of War, Detroit, Dreams, Days Gone, Shadow of the Colossus Remake and Spider Man. I don't think that we'll see Death Stranding, TLOU2 or Sucker Punch's new IP as I think that Sony holds them for E3 2018.

Either way, future looks awesome.

That's kinda my point. "Sony Interactive Entertainment" isn't a game developer, it's a publisher. And "co-developed" doesn't actually mean co-developed at times (see: Bloodborne).

I was watching the DB FighterZ gamescom trailer and saw the funimation logo at the end.
I wonder if Playstation can use the Funimation aquisition somehow.
I have no idea if only Bandai Namco can use DBZ characters but having Goku and maybe Luffy in a PS All Stars 2 would be cool.

TLL pretty much proves ND are among the few devs who has a hyper-speed definition of a "long wait."

If anything, I wouldn't be surprised anymore if TLOU2 is next year.

I'm thinking late 2018 is a possibility, but it'll more than likely be an early to mid 2019 game

This idea that ND takes forever to release games is so frustratingly wrong. It all started when they had to delay UC4 a couple of times, which was clearly a knock on effect caused by the directorial change. Outside of that, they've shown themselves to be an incredibly efficient development studio.

All the uncharted were what two years apart and the last of us ,2 years(3?) after uncharted 3. They're damn good I now expect longer gaps obviously because these games are starting to get time consuming

I'd say co-developed means co-developed.

You're going to have to be more specific because that makes no sense. FYI, sometimes studios will get co-developer credit when they acted more in a producer role than a developer. It seems to be more of a Japan thing than a western thing though.

I could've sworn that Oasis Games have said a couple times they are a Branch Publishing Partner for Sony Asia (On their twitter). I doubt they pay Sony to help with the game if not the other way around.

Without more details, I don't put a lot of trust or weight into 'co-development games.'

Like, it's a word that is tossed around a lot to give weight to the idea that a support studio/minor partner is more involved than they actually are.

Mark my words, when he does return it'll be on an all new IP.

Yup.

I agree with you, but I think Sony wants to do a majow announcement at PSX, so Sucker Punch's Game could get a teaser Trailer. E3 2018 will be all about DS & TLOU2

With the TGS pre-show announced today, I was thinking about SIE Japanese output, and that made me wonder:

Why does Sony barely works with Dimps despite being one of the studio owners? The only stuff they worked together was that Sony Music PSVR app called anywhereVR, and before that they were one of the studios on Freedom Wars together with Japan Studio and Shift. Thats it

Namco and SEGA (the other major shareholders) on the other hand, work with them regularly, sometimes even on multiple games a year. Does anyone knows why Sony doesnt collaborate with them more often?

I would kill for a PS4 Freedom Wars Remaster btw^

Now that Everybody's Golf and Knack 2 are finished, and TGS around the corner. I wonder what Japan Studio will announce now that their entire studio is free.

Japan Studio has been the MVP of Worldwide studios this generation.

Gravity Rush 1 and 2, The Last Guardian, Knack 1 and 2, Shadow of the Colossus on the way, they were involved with Bloodborne and Everybody's Golf. Now all of these games aren't for everyone but their output and pretty consistent high quality are undeniable.

Things have seriously turned around there. Hopefully they announce something new at TGS.

Gravity Rush Remastered was done by Bluepoint, who are also developing the Shadow of the Colossus remake.

i wonder what the Lost Legacy heads will do now

will they join Straleys Team on the next IP (if Straley is indeed the director) or will Margenau & Escayg start the work on another Game (maybe next Uncharted Spinn-Off) which would result in Naughty Dog having 3 Projects at the same time

I didn't play LL yet, but it seems like the team did a fantastic job in that span of time.
