Destiny 2 |OT| Here We Go Again

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills, given the reactions. I hated the audio in the beta, and it was one of the main reasons I barely played it. Here my scout rifle is this little plip plip, hand cannons sound like shoes slapped on a floor, I just got a sniper rifle and it has the impact of a book being closed. There's not a single hard, metal on metal sound in the game so far. It reminds me of Halo 4 in how everything sound artificial and processed and soft.

I just got to the EDZ and explored a bit, and it's clear the place is huge, intricate and there's a lot going on. Some great design work at play. But I just cannot get into the gunplay and the audio is a huge factor. Like, I don't just dislike it. It's awful and takes the game down several notches. I just closed the game in the middle of a mission because I got straight up bored in the middle of a battle. :\

Something's definitely wrong with your setup. Do you hear the amazing metallic thunk when a cabal grenade falls near you? It sounds like it falls then solidly locks to whatever surface it lands on, it's a great effect.

Loving the game play, but I cannot understand how some people claim the story is any better than D1's. Ghaul is laughable. The dialogue is once again full of dumb one liners that don't fit the situations at all... the chemistry between the hawk lady and the old guy made me facepalm.

Not that any of this is important since the story is over soon and the grinding shall begin.

Strikes.

that pyramidion strike is amazing, real vault of glass vibes.

Platform?

I know there was an issue with Xbox users that was being looked into, if psn not sure, what's your NAT, as type 3 would restrict who you can be paired with.

Do you have to finish the campaign to open strikes?

Because D1 at launch hardly had a story. There were barely ant cutscenes, the missions felt disjointed, there wasn't really a "big bad" and you never built a relationship with any of the characters.

It is much improved here but I admit it's not perfect.

Failsafe's jokes are incredibly corny but I think it works for me because she's used relatively sparingly. Cayde-6, ever since Taken King, has become this awful mascot character who just vomits first-draft Marvel movie dialogue for eternity. He seriously sucks so much and he is so transparently a character written into the story to undercut any serious dialogue or plot development. It comes off to me in a lack of confidence in the writing; Cayde is just there to MST3K their own damn story.

I think Cayde is overdone a bit, but he's there to make fun of the game's story. They messed the bed so badly in D1 there really is no way to take it extremely seriously, its always going to be under the microscope. I mean they had to just retcon the Darkness out of the game by pretending it doesn't exist.

It's comic book schlock, yes but at least it makes sense and has a logical narrative.

D1 vanilla is essentially: wake up, find fallen, find them fighting the hive - oh look, the Moon; wait, a strange robot lady wants us to go to Venus; time robots, some kind of portal on Mars with a giant black orb then yay! We won.... something.

Iam at level 11 and got this nice blue GL.

Go to PTE, shoot everything, collect more ammo, use some other weapon, switch back, shoot again.

The story is nothing special but it is clearly an improvement over D1 and that's not even up for debate really. It's pretty evident.

Endgame spoiler alert

Do not read unless you've finished

is that a vex ship the light blast activates at the end?

It makes no sense if it is the vex as they are already in the local system anyway and can teleport

I enjoyed Cayde-6 in TTK. He wasn't overused, maintained a sense of gravitas, and mixed well within the expansion's overall dramatic tone. Instead of undercutting the seriousness of the plot, he gave it some additional soul.

Destiny 2's marketing material set off some serious alarm bells, though, and went a long way toward turning me off from the character. It sounds like I won't be pleasantly surprised when I dive into the game later today.

True. I guess just having a plot structure is an improvement over D1. The actual stuff inside the plot is just as hammy though.

The motion capture actors/directors needed some goddamn sense, why do these aliens, darth vaders and guardians all move the same. And why do they move like a soap opera diva during even the most simple cut-scene xD

I think it's more Hive. There's some dialog around Eris being missing at one point, and finishing business with the hive at another. Oryx had two equally powerful sisters if I remember the grimoire lore right. There's also the flag for Hive magic bringing back the dead from the side missions on Titan, so they may find a way to bring him back.

Although, by this point, I'm fucking sick of the hive and the bullet sponge waves of thrall.

No, it's the unnamed race from D1 concept art that was never put into the game. You see the triangles during the vision of the Collapse.

I made a mistake when I started reading this thread. Was planning on skipping this after I was fairly disappointed with the first game but now I've bought it.
Might go for a hunter this time around, how are they in D2?

Completed flashpoint which got me the wardcliff coil, which is dope and great for public events. Managed to complete a heroic public event with it. It got me some exotic boots and now I'm finally nightfall ready for tomorrow. Got a lot accomplished today and it feels great.
How long is the flashpoint and what is the quest called?

For me there is certainly a tonal disconnect throughout. With the tower being destroyed and losing light it seems they were going for a "darker" or more serious tone this time around. Yet the ingame dialogue is filled with humour and quippy one liners.

So, I just assumed Drang was a regular Legendary and disassembled it..Is there an easy way to get another so I can do the quest or do I have to wait for RNG?

So far I'm having a bit of fun, but it's already getting a bit samey. I didn't play much D1, but it seemed more "busy" with other players doing stuff along side you. This one just seems like a lot of small areas. I''ve already had an "adventure" recycle story content that has me taking the exact same path and nearly the exact same battle...

On a funny note, I saw a dude get squished by the spider tank when it dropped out of the sky lol

Honestly I was dead set on skipping but caves the day before release, i know D1 had a cobbled together story but this one has real substance, and the mods give you the ability to really customise weapon sets for specific use without having to grind for the right roll.

This is such a glorious looking game on ps4 pro. They really nailed the sense of scale and distance and some of the lighting is just gorgeous. Roll on the HDR patch, when is that dropping do we know?

Check your setup. I'm on a surround sound setup and the guns sound fantastic. They all have a solid thud behind shots, particularly hand cannons.

I've had a couple of pulse rifles and sniper rifles that sounded limp, but they're the exception.

This. In 4k it feels like it competes or exceeds the likes of Horizon ZD at times - particularly with all the effects going off.

And we know that how?

The latter are almost assuredly the "ultimate" enemy. Also angles vs curves (sphere vs pyramids?). The ancient enemy of the traveler is acute angles.

Savathun will most likely be the face of *an* expansion. Dunno if it'd be the big one between games, though. Plenty of Taken and Hive stuff referring to Savathun coming. She's also one of Oryx's siblings from the Book of Sorrows grimiore stuff from Destiny 1.

And it won't be the Osiris expansion since that will have a destination on Mercury and Mercury is all in on Vex.

And we know that how?
Savathun hints are all over Io. Ghost mentions that the Taken won't be without a leader for long, and that they're calling out to something. There's actually a strike called Song of Savathun which involves you fighting her heralds, like we did with Oryx in D1. Combined with the creepy Titan Hive worm tease... Yeah, she's next year's big bad.

Second expansion from the pass is
Warmind
stuff. Speaking of which, there's a really good tease on Io through an adventure for that.

So it's just your speculation? I thought I missed some rumor or something. lol

Sure all that sounds nice, but it's hardly confirmation of any sense.

(Ending)
Man if triangles really are a cliffhanger until Destiny 3, I'm gonna be sad. I want my triangles explanation right now god dammit.

What are people's thoughts on the future community longevity of the PC version? Do you think it will have legs like the console crowd or struggle long term?

I'm torn between picking up either the PC or PS4 versions - Really prefer M/K though.

I did say almost assuredly. It would make no sense otherwise though with how thick the foreshadowing is laid on.

Oh I think that it will eventually payoff to something. I just don't know if that something would be the big Y1 expansion considering it would probably get a poor reaction because some would see it as a repeat idea of what they did with TTK. Like they'd have to do a whole lot of work to justify it and differentiate it to people.
