Destiny 2 |OT| Here We Go Again

After completing the story I got to say it's...Destiny. Go here...shoot some aliens...go to this other place that's feels like miles away and kill some more...etc... Yes, I expected that but I also wanted some imagination.

Earth's Dead Zone, Nessus and Io are expansive for no particular reason. The way these are populated is the same as the original...pockets of enemies that respawn. On occasion they meet and greet each other to a deathmatch. So what's new? Nothing. I get the sense they built these new, larger destinations because they could, not because they should. They feel like a technological achievement rather than something fresh to experience.

Destiny's original destinations are smaller, better formed and a lot more characterful. Comparing Earth shows how much more mysteriously curios the original feels to be in. Proper adventures without the need for an Adventure beacon to show you the way. Glorious. This new Earth Dead Zone now is, bar technical achievements, about as bland and flat as you can get. It's just not fun exploring anymore.

Props for Nessus' design though. That's a treat. The jewel in the crown by a wide margin.

They haven't learnt the lesson about the social space either. The Farm was dross. The new social space at the end-game is big and messy. Why does it need to be so bloody big and complex? It's an infuriating design choice that means it takes an age to do anything.

Overall, the mystery in Destiny has gone. It's mindless. Everything is handed to the player on a plate. The whole story was done without wincing. Events are no longer a surprise and feel useless past a particular Power level. Weapons and Armour have set abilities (mods aren't a direct replacement for perks). There's no excitement to revealing Legendary and Exotic Engrams anymore.

The only redeeming factors are...the Strikes seem pretty good and there's one 220 Power Adventure that felt like a discovery...Arecibo. Why can't the rest of the game be so revealing? The rest is excruciatingly dull.

PvP's player restrictions are horrid too. Why can't I choose what I want to play? Why limit map design to favour Assault Rifles or other close range weapons? There's hardly any need for Scout Rifles, let alone Sniper Rifles because the maps are so small across the board. I've got no idea what the design logic is here. Why give me Boots that boost speed and jumping? That would of been really handy in the original Destiny's PvP mode.

The change to 4v4 means there's little strategy involved now. Think about flanking...nope. Team rush means you have no chance. It's a horrible place to play.

I'd love to see the old destinations bolted on to what we have now. I'd love to see the old PvP choices return. I'd love to see the old PvP maps return. Let me run and play free.

I'm so disappointed. It's too 'the same as' and it's more restrictive than ever.

I'm wondering if I goofed/fucked-up: so I started my alt, having had learned from my past 'mistakes' with my first character (as far as min-maxing is concerned, saving milestones, etc)...and I think I already messed up with the initial milestones from Zavala, Cayde, and Ikora by speaking to them too soon? I was under the impression that the level of the reward/loot they gave you was dependent on your level when you completed those milestones, not what level you were when you accepted them. Is that not right? My alt is already level 242 (having had leveled up to 20 doing just public heroics), wishing I hit 265 first before starting those milestones now >_<. Or am I mistaken thinking that these first milestones from them don't give "powerful" rewards?

Reposting for new page :D

If Xür is arriving tomorrow, do we expect him to stay until.. Thursday morning?

I'd assume it's just them making up for lost time because if that's the schedule I sorta like it more then friday to sunday morning.

Couple of quick ones - am I right in thinking biggie.net has reduced its stats tracking right down? Is that stuff incoming?

Secondly - someone told me not to redeem NPC rewards until I hit like 230 light - the idea being that all the rewards I get through the campaign should shoot me right up - is that actually viable? Will I miss out on anything by doing this?

I know not to hand in the various tokens until I have a stack of 10 - and I don't plan on doing this until the end game but the general NPC rewards I wasn't aware of - I have Tess marked on my map but am tempted to hold off on talking to her

Best scout is back.

Puts me at a max 287 light. Should have done rat king quest first, then sturm and then mida for best results. Oh well.
Got used to the energy scout rifle "seven-six-five". It's just like my old tried and true hung jury. Just need to find a white and blue shader for it.

So my game is finally arriving today, which means I have pretty much just the rest of today to do things before the weekly reset, right?

So what is it safe for me to do tonight (time permitting, of course) that I shouldn't be saving for being 200+/265+ because I will be able to re-earn the rewards for come next week?

Guys any great spot to farm the 50 aerial kills for
Mida quest
?

lol i havent tried it yet but i read on the subreddit just stand on a rock and get kills it my have been a bug just for that dude but try it if your playin now im still on sight shoot repeat

edit i found it
ill do it today thought this would take awhile with a hunter

You are just getting the game today? Um... do everything you can as the reset is tomorrow, I'm not sure how much you intend to play but I just finished the story Saturday morning after having the game since launch day, granted I don't have as much time as I used to for games now but yeah... just do what you can and don't be afraid about waiting to do anything besides maybe the last step of exotic quests as those don't reset.

I'm preaching to the choir here, but this game is so, so choice. It dovetails beautifully with my schedule, since I tend to play in short bursts.

Before I had to go out to work on Sunday for a few hours, I had about 20-30 minutes, which was enough time to loot a Lost Sector, hit two public events on the way, and go back to the farm for a bright engram.

I'm on the second batch of story missions in EDZ, and I've been doing most of the adventures along the way - I hit 20 quite a while ago just tooling around with Lost Sectors and public events. Did I hear right that Lost Sectors are repeatable?

So I made it to 290 last night on my Titan, but have yet to come across a kinetic +5 weapon mod. Has anyone found any of these yet or are they just super rare?

Does any one know how Celestial Nighthawk interacts with Gunslingers Six-Shooter perk? Does it double the damage? Would it do more or less damage than a precision shot using the other Gunslinger tree?

Can anyone confirm if you can pick up the Clan reward engrams on each character? Or are the rewards account-based and therefore 1 per account, per week?

Not sure, but I know the character has to exist/be in the clan when the engram is achieved in order to receive it. So you can't just make an alt to power level today and pick up stuff that was already earned.

I would assume it's still one per account per week though.

On my latest run I clocked the game at around 5 hours for 1-20 + all of Campaign

First some tips
Run forward if you see an arrow on your compass at all times. Only stop to kill when the game forces you to.
Equip all pieces of gear if it's higher light level period.
Don't turn in tokens ect until you're 20 and above at least 200 light level
Use XP Token every 4 hours

Here's my advice for you for how to hit 20 from level 1 ASAP
Start the game, play through until you get to EDZ
Do "events" until 5 while doing the necessary quests.
Move to Titan, do the first 3 quests
Do "events" here until level 12
Do your 1st Sub-class quest
Move to Nassus, do the quests here
Move to IO, do the quests here
Go to EDZ and do "events" until 16
Finish the fight.

Once you're 20 do events for a bit int he EDZ. Try to bring your light level up a bit. If you're in a hurry stop at 200, I'd recommend pushing until 240-250.

At this point talk to the hobos in the Tower. Get all the free stuff they give you, join a Clan. Start anything. You'll notice a Milestone update for your clan, cancel this and go back to Tower. Go to Clan person collect loot.

Do 2 strikes
Do 2 Social PVP matches
Do 2 Comp PVP matches
Do any "Milestone" that says "Powerful" Gear
Do PVP Milestone for Powerful Gear
Do Nightfall Strike

Estimated time:
5 Hours for campaign
3 Hours for Events
30 minutes for 2 strikes
2 hours for PVP
1 hour for loading/dicking around
10 minutes for Nightfall

If you start now you should beat the clock!

I have only gotten one from sacrificing two legendary mods to get mod components then trying to get a random weapon mod from the gunsmith but they are very rare.

I'm dreading making other classes at the moment but I might try to push through and do a Titan next.

Ohhh okay thanks. Makes sense. I made a new alt after the rewards were already produced.

Dude, it just dawned on my how much I have to do. I still gotta do Adventures, most of the Lost Sectors besides two or three I've already done. Then there are the Strikes. And I'll do some patrols to see how I like those. Man, it's like going on an adventure!

I'm also doing a quest for Devrim Kay called "Enhance!" and I have no idea where it's going (that is, I don't know what loot it's for -- the MIDA?).

That's not the Vision of Confluence!

Tbh I just ran around the Church / Town center area in the EDZ when I did it. It was super easy. You just kill the dregs/shanks/wretches and you'll get it done in no time. I was on a hunter too.

You know what sucks? Nightfall enemies scaling to your armor level, whats the point of the armor requirement if the enemies will ajust to you anyway.

BTW, anyone know where I can find the female warlock stormcaller image? I can find it anywhere

Way to kill my hype for PC release.

Hmm like someone else I seem to have a bug with meditations, even if I'm alone i can't seem to start one. It states I have to be fireteam leader or similar.. someone know a fix for this?

I'm being serious, how the fuck do you jump with [warlock]?

The second jump boosts you in the direction of your momentum (unless you are falling in which case it counteracts it). So, the earlier you are in the initial jump the more vertical momentum you have so you go higher with the second jump. Different jump options give you varying amounts of speed vs control. Play with them as well as timing the second jump.

I have a love hate relationship with warlock jumps lol I find it best for platforming, worst for fighting.

It is very useful for fighting. More in PvP than PvE; the AI is less fooled by movement tricks, but you can still use it to get a great angle for AoE attacks. Grounded was the worst modifier in D1 for me since I was in the air so much as a voidwalker or sunsinger (less so as a stormcaller due to shitty grenades).

Can tokens be transferred to other characters?

Put a sparrow in your vault BEFORE you make a new character, that way you can pull it out (on your new character) when you touch down at the farm for the first time.

Alts don't seem to take long at all to level. Skipping cut scenes + having a sparrow to travel with cuts out a ton of time. I ran through the story on my Warlock yesterday.

Regarding tokens, I THINK your inventory items are shared between characters, so you shouldn't even have to transfer them -- they should just be there for you.

There wasn't much to do in destinations unless you were doing exotic weapon Quests. And even then, you'd be too high level to explore the areas over and over

The element of surprise in public events is meaningless when people relied more on third party websites to find the public events for quest steps among others

Exotics has never been super rare drops like legendaries from vanilla WoW since the Taken King and it will never will be.

I get the impression you're excusing some of the bad design decisions Bungie made with D1

Experiencing MAJOR whiplash with the game. I hit 297 Power and it really hit me how meaningless that time was. The game is fun enough I suppose but my addiction was what really kept me going, and now that it has begun to wear off the less compelled I am to keep playing. Gonna stick around for the raid Wednesday but man for better or worse Destiny has been progressively worse at keeping me addicted.

Side Note: Nameless Midnight is one of if not the best Scout Rifle in the history of Destiny.

I really, really like the game. It improves on many things the first game already did. It is ultimately more of the same, but that's what I expect from a sequel.

But yeah, all those restrictions are abysmal. Why can't I chose what PvP-mode I want to play? Or what strike? What about that shitty timelimit in the Nightfalls? It seems like they improved everything only to put silly restrictions on it. And where is the PvP-mode with the vehicles? Some baffling decisions ...
