Imagine my surprise when not even vanguard legendary engrams can go over 265 when you aren't super high in level.
I guess this officially means that outside of milestones you literally have zero reason to keep grinding unless you want to get blues/purples for breaking down for xur. But I'm fairly happy with what I have right now and if my friends and I get rat king that'll be my primary of choice.
It's quite good in PvE. Didn't work well for me in PvP, which it seemed like it was built for, but it's damage output is great against adds. It's also gorgeous.
Really want to get the Sunshot, I grabbed the Graviton Lance instead and I love it, but Sunshot seems cool.
So I reeeeeally love the Gunslinger perk that adds crit damage to Golden Gun. I want to get a Celestial Nighthawk and try a crit shot with that. I am sure the damage would be bananas.
re: clan rewards, like the one during this week was crucible, it's already marked. So despite not having played in any cruci games with the clan, I still get the reward?
What everyone farming public events is terrified to hear
For every public event, there is a way to trigger a "heroic" version. Heroic version has better loot. The biggest challenge of each public event is to trigger the heroic version before everyone else finishes the normal encounter.
If you don't know how to activate a Heroic event please look it up. It's frustrating to be the only person sometimes trying to do the activation process.
How did you do it? I'm trying to hit it ASAP. I think the idea is to get all 265's then hope for a +5 part to infuse to the 265. I've dumped 200+ materials to gunsmith w/o a +5 mod and even the Tokens turnins are rare to get that mod.

Awesome. I just downloaded it today and couldn't find the option to do so. Glad it's going to be reimplemented because going to the tower still takes so long.
I hate that I have another month and a half wait for the PC version. Picked it up on PS4 from a Redbox and it seems pretty great.
I can't believe they have something as lame as "slow walk with this corny somber music" so early on. I guess that's still an improvement over the original, but lol.
I was a Hunter in D1 but I think I'm going to switch. Haven't decided yet
Lucky pants came from story mission.
Orpheus Rig came from a random exotic engram I got from a hard mode Injection Rig event in EDZ
And
STOMP-EE5 (which are objectivly the best) came from a Powerful Gear engram for doing the EDZ Flashpoint.

What about Mida or Sturm? These ones I am thinking about using as infusion fuel to boost some Legendaries for the raid and then rebuy at lower light because I don't need them at max.
I also have Merciless. So my decision is Sunshot for pure trash clearing mayhem fun or Merciless for single target annihilation.
Thanks for this! Surprised I haven't seen something like this sooner.
I'll add I think (because I don't know), Ikora's Mediations are on a weekly reset w/ Purple (Luminous) Engram along with Cayde's Treasure maps (though I've never gotten a Purple from it, I thought I read they have a chance to drop Purples)
I personally need to knock out the Nightfall, Flashpoint, 2 strikes from Zavala, 1 more mediation, and Crucible quest line. Yeah I'm not gonna make it I spent WAY too much time grinding to 259 on PE and spent all my tokens on Devrim w/o a +5 armor mod.
Ahh! Good call on Cayde's Treasure maps, I did get some decent loot from them and I do believe there is a chance at exotics from his chests as well (albeit a small chance).
As for the 2 strikes from Zavala, I'm not sure if that is a weekly thing or only a one time milestone when you are initially leveling through your character. Would make sense for it to be on a weekly reset as to keep strikes populated with players.
Also for Ikora's meditations, I thought all they did was reward rep tokens after completing all the available ones. Can anyone confirm if 1. they do give out engrams as reward and 2. if it is on a weekly reset?
In the meantime I'll update my post, and post it on the next page as well.

The trick is getting high level exotics and legendary. If you've already done all of your milestones your only bet right now is to get an exotic engram from a heroic public event.
Tuesday resets milestones and missions from the main 3 guardians, and they usually each have a powerful gear to offer as a reward for doing their mission.
There is currently no way outside of the stuff that gets reset weekly to go above 270 since you can't equip multiple exotics, so it'll have to be a combination of powerful gear and high level exotics.
At level 280 you can start making your own +5 mods.

Sorry! Meant to say I need to do the 2 strikes from Zavala to unlock NF. I doubt Strikes will be a weekly thing, but then again every Vanguard member has a weekly "thing".
For Ikora's meditations, it would make sense that they are on a weekly reset as I finished one yesterday but still have 2 more to do when it was 3 yesterday. Also, turning in the 3 "vanguard medallions" pushes Ikora's rep to 1/3 of the way complete. We'll see tomorrow it could be a time time thing these story missions are way longer than D1 Daily stories lol
Yeah but there's only 4 spades in the entire map. I was expecting chests in all areas.
Goddamnit so I screwed myself? Nooooo. I was reading a level up guide that recommended to get all chests at level 200 to hopefully get to 265 ASAP. Anyway I'll keep my Legendary engrams and Exotics one for that one quest to get Sturm.
The scout reports you get from Cayde will show locations of random and gold chests in your HUD.
The Treasure Maps are the spades that were mentioned, they are in different spots around the map. Each one is a specific chest, with goodies in them. They don't unlock chests all over the place. Each one is unique, not a gold regional chest or the random spawn ones. You can buy more each week.

284 Mida Multi-Tool, and just finished the last milestone before Nightfall (haven't even touched that yet).
I've just played a shit ton. Farming EDZ public events, trying to enable heroic before randoms fuck it up. Getting lucky with exotic drops. Infusing them into legendaries.
Really wanna hit 280 so I can start exchanging for purple mods.
Edit: Just got a 278 from an exotic engram I got from a public event.
Tried some PvP. I gotta admit, they certainly fixed a few of the issues from Destiny 1. So that's nice
I'm really not a fan of this kind of chaotic gameplay though. I just don't see how it's fun to be put up against full clans with pug team mates and get stomped on by invisible hunters with swords and supers on cramped maps
Lord if this powerful gear milestone wasn't PvP, I'd be happy to never touch it again
Open them tonight. I did them around your level and got pretty decent upgrades.
Really, just play the game. Try and save Milestones till a bit higher PL, but really, it doesn't matter. Everyone is trying to min/max but in reality if you just play the game and do whatever whenever you'll be fine. Really in my experience at least, waiting to do everything till a certain PL doesn't matter that much
Maybe they think people will actually be able to gravitate towards things they actually enjoy without feeling like they're missing out on the "best options"?
The game feels intrinsically designed to encourage build building and giving many builds a fighting chance to shine in the game.
I think a part of the problem comes when in my instance I want to take advantage of a weapon like the sturm and drang, I'm really good with drang but I hate how the sturm feels, hate the recoil, hate the ROF and I have no damn choice but to put up with it, the gun can't even meet me halfway like they use to be able to in destiny. It's a precision based gun, but its leaned so heavily that way, it not useful in anything but pve where you have time to get those precision shots.

Impressions after finishing the story + all adventures + all chests / Lost Sectors;
+ I like all the improvements to patrol. Public Event timers being visible is great, as are the Lost Sectors, multiple drop points, Adventures, High Value Targets, Heroic Events, challenges, Flashpoint, and the seamless transition between activities without going into menus or orbit.
+ The reward structure is massively improved over vanilla Destiny. Through the region tokens, I am getting rewarded no matter what I choose to do. Legendary rewards are more frequent. I have gotten to 270 Light purely through regular play - no need to follow any guide - and even though I seem to just now have hit a speed-bump, I know that every weekly reset there are specific activities I can do to progress my Light Level and also the goal of 280 Light for the mods at the Gunsmith.
+ While the lore provided may be less meaty than in Destiny 1, I like that it is actually in the game now via scan-able objects.
+ Failsafe / new characters in general.
+ Fun new exotics like Coldheart and Merciless.
+ No more leveling weapons to use them and everything now has fixed mods, removing that extra layer of RNG.
+ Removal of pointless Rare Engrams.
+ New class abilities.
- Not being able to select a specific Strike from their respective map is an odd decision. Why?
- Bungie's 'the social space will evolve over the course of the story'-talk was essentially bs.
- Obtaining subclasses through random drops was disappointing and I would've preferred a more quest-based approach for them. I also feel they missed the opportunity to add another subclass. Perhaps one based on a new element. Frost wouldn't have been too out of place with Coldheart!
- Ghosts, Sparrows, and Ships being practically exclusive to Eververse feels like a scummy move, more so than the Shader stuff.
- Why get rid of Artifacts?
- Weapon balancing; why would I ever use a side-arm (Exotics excluded)? What's the point of the Grenade Launchers that don't have the sticky mod? Where are my LMGs? Why would I ever put a Shotgun in my Heavy slot?
- Where's my Bad Juju?
- Story Quality.
More on the story:
It was better than vanilla Destiny, but that doesn't exactly mean much. It was decent, but still had quite a few moments that had me scratching my head.
I absolutely hate how they went about this Cabal invasion stuff. The Red Legion appearing out of nowhere literally RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE TOWER was complete and utter bs. What about Rasputin? What about all the guardians around the system? The Reef? An entire army on a huge fleet of giant warships accompanied by a star-killer entered the system and was completely unnoticed by anyone right up until the moment they were literally right in front of the Tower? Really?
I also got the impression that the Red Legion was not the main Cabal Empire force, but rather a splinter / rebel group lead by Ghaul. Why would they be the first to respond to the distress call from The Taken King? They never felt like a real threat, seeing how their entire war operation was stopped / sabotaged at every level by a single Guardian. Bungie basically had to severely 'nerf' us (by disabling the traveler and having their entire fleet show up magically right at the Tower) for these Cabal to even stand a remote chance of doing anything in the first place.
Ghaul himself was also a completely uninteresting villain. He never actually did anything in the story - instead choosing to sit around in his ship just talking to the Speaker. And then when he finally does do something, it goes against everything the story built up for him during those talking-to-the-Speaker scenes.
Talking about the Speaker; Bungie basically revealed him as a fraud - which in my mind also confirms that the Traveler is indeed just a highly advanced - possibly sentient - machine. This is never brought up again in the story afterward. Why bring this up only to immediately drop it?
I also feel that the missions on Titan were pointless filler. Nothing of consequence happened there and Zavala had no reason to go there, much less stay there. What about the Iron Temple? The Reef? The Farm you end up going to anyway? The Titan portion of the story also ends abruptly with the 'oh btw I somehow know the Cabal have a star-killer aimed at our sun'.
Also abrupt was going to Io and just landing next to Ikora on a cliff immediately.
I didn't mind Cayde too much, but the bits with him and chickens felt forced, especially in the context of Bungie themselves specifically pointing out chickens in the Farm reveal before launch.
I feel like this story could have been much better if some characters / factions were swapped around and some of the gaps were filled in. Here's how I would've done it;
Start with an instance where you are patrolling in Old Russia (just re-use part of the old map for this story instance) when you are interrupted by a lone Cabal ship entering orbit. Ghost could say something like "A Cabal ship, here on Earth? That can't be good...", and then on your way to the landing spot, Ghost will receive a frantic message from Rasputin. A Cabal crew is breaching Rasputin's Vault and you follow them in. You kill them, only to discover that they have placed multiple devices either jamming, disconnecting, or severely damaging Rasputin. Right as Ghost comments on all this, Zavala hijacks the comms with a system-wide emergency broadcast; "Attention all Guardians; we have intercepted emergency Cabal communications directing any and all remaining forces in the system to return to the Cabal base on Phobos. We do not know what their purpose is, but whatever it is; it can't be good. I'm calling on any able Guardians to rally to Phobos to end this Cabal threat."
Hard cut to a cutscene.
You come up on Phobos in your ship when a massive Cabal fleet jumps into the system from hyperspeed, with many of their ships heading straight for Earth. Ghost comments on how bad this is. Hard cut to the Tower; Zavala gets word that a Cabal fleet entered the system and then asks Ikora to check the satellites. As Ikora is checking on the satellite feeds, they all go down one by one. THEN the Cabal arrive over the City and wreck the Tower.
Instead of this just being the Red Legion led by Ghaul, it is a vast military force; the main Empire forces, comprised of many legions, of which Ghaul's Red Legion is one. I would remove the focus on Ghaul and shift it to the Cabal Emperor as main antagonist. Ghaul's mentor would be cut out entirely. Ghaul will still be the one on the ship in the intro. The Cabal Emperor could be the one sitting around trying to talk to the Speaker to find things out, with Ghaul becoming increasingly frustrated with him over the course of the game as the Guardian slays his forces while the Emperor sits around doing nothing. When the Speaker reveals himself as a fraud, Ghaul snaps, and fights and usurps the Emperor and the legions with his loyal Red Legion. Then he claims the Light and we fight him.
Bonus suggestion; Instead of the Traveler just randomly deciding to break free, have us at least weaken the restraints during the final boss fight.
More bonus suggestions; Have anything significant take place on Titan, and maybe when we get to Io add a mission where we have to track down Ikora first.
I'll probably have some more thoughts as I play more / Crucible / Strikes, but I think that's quite enough for now. Overall I feel the game is quite the improvement over vanilla Destiny, even with the listed cons. I'll very much enjoy playing this despite feeling it could have been better.
