Apple September Event 2017 |OT| A Top-Notch Keynote

Well my 6 is falling apart so I need to upgrade. Guess I'll wait until closer to Xmas or just after and see what my corporate rate plan will offer. Right now the plan is decent enough and I'd have to shell out $600cdn for a 7+. I'd do the same for an 8+ 64gb is enough for me since the only thing I'd use that takes up space is photos. Steaming FTw.

Unless the X is amazing as all hell and I could justify the extra hundreds (probably not)

yeah i'm surprised they don't just have it always blacked out except for the cellular, wifi, time, etc. like have that stuff in white while the rest of the screen up there is completely black. it would look so nice. they should at least have included a toggle for it in the settings since nothing useful in an app can be shown up there anyways.

They want to embrace it as a design element I think. I'm fine with that on the lock/home screens, but in apps I’m not sure.

how is that misleading? They said it lasts longer than the 7.

Yeah I know, but normally they compare it to the same "family". Like how the 8+ is compared to 7+ and the 8 is compared to the 7. The X is as big as the plus so I figured it was compared to that, guess not!

Whatever happened to the rear facing depth camera that was rumored for some time? As I developer was really looking forward to playing with some Tango/HoloLens style spatial mapping,

I'd come to terms with no TouchID and the price and I hope that those will be addressed in the next model. What really bothers me is the design. I don't even mind the notch, but I hate the black bezel still being really noticeable and the gaudy stainless steel band, not to mention the camera hump looking bigger than ever. Needs iteration IMO and I REALLY hope we don't have to wait 2 more years for it.

It looks like a giant stainless steel Apple Watch. Bit disappointed by the rounded edges - could be slippery like the 6. Would like some hard edge in there for better grip

I think I'll upgrade to the iPhone 8 from my 6s. The iPhone X looks beautiful, but I just don't know if it's worth the extra $500.

When I'm watching a YouTube or Netflix video and the left side of my content is obscured by it, I'll be bothered by that.
You tube video aspect is not formatted to be that wide anyway, so I'm sure the app will have to option to just have a vertical black stripe left/right that will make the notch invisible. Otherwise you'll be cutting off top and bottom of the video if you zoom all the way in to fill the sides.

So that is the paypal loan.

Here is the iPhone upgrade programme.

Base Iphone X 50% more expensive per month than the Iphone 8

Impressions are saying that individual attendees can't play with FaceID because it's just keyed to the demo presenters. Hmm.

I may want to wait a year to jump into this, I think.
Hmm indeed, lol.
I'm sure they weren't too happy that it failed to work in the very first public attempt.

um no it was the iPhone. it was totally spazzing out with all the people in the frame.

You're saying the iPhone blurs the UI out too when it can't focus?

If you're talking about the portrait/portrait lighting mode he was trying to use, it's a portrait mode. It's not designed to track and create accurate lighting for a crowd of faces.

Eh... screams half-baked. Guess I'm holding onto this 6S for another year. Let's see what you've got next year, Apple.

lol. replacing fingerprint scanning (feature. not features.) with the most advanced consumer facial recognition is "half baked"... ffs.. this thread keeps delivering.

"Most advanced" Lol even on stage it didn't work.
This works exactly like Windows Hello does, but Windows hello needs to be used at most once, and it uses Dedicated cameras. This is the same shoddy implementation that Samsung uses and it works 70% of the time. There is a reason when you setup Iris scanning on the S8 it makes you setup a finger print as well, because they know it won't work.

It's not even the same technology and it doesn't read the same info. This is not an iris scanner.

doesn't one use the camera and the other IR? seems apples and oranges

Why do people keep trying to peddle "it didn't work". It clearly worked. He swapped phones at the original phone had been rebooted and required a passcode before Face id could be enabled, as is standard with Touch ID.

The fact that the series 3 watch is exclusive to EE here in the UK sucks balls. I was really interested in picking it up.

You mean the cellular? You should be able to buy it anywhere but possibly exclusive to EE if they are the only operator supporting the tech needed? I think for wifi use there was something the operator needed to support to use the Apple Watch to make calls without the Iphone nearby.

It's a lot easier to just go with what you already believe, than actually thinking and coming to a different conclusion.

What is the purpose of the iPhone 8, at this point? It seems to me most people would rather save $100 and get an iPhone 7, or spend an extra $200 and get an iPhone X.

The IPhone X is 1st iPhone I'm interested in.The only thing that was keeping me away from trying an iPhone was how they looked, but they've pretty much solved that with the X.

My only complaint with the X and other phones like it is that the bezels still look pretty big compared to the S8/note 8. That small curve they have does alot to make the bezels seem smaller.

Not sure if I'll get the X. But there's a good chance that I'll get the successor to the X if they do something about the bezels.

The 8 sucks though. Just get a 7
