Apple September Event 2017 |OT| A Top-Notch Keynote

Looks like both the X and 8 support fast charging (50% in 30 min) but they require a fast charger that's not included in the box. They tested them with Apple USB-C chargers.

"Testing conducted by Apple in August 2017 using preproduction iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X units and software and accessory Apple USB-C Power Adapters (29W Model A1540, 61W Model A1718, 87W Model A1719). Fast-charge testing conducted with drained iPhone units. Charge time varies with environmental factors; actual results will vary."

Should be able to use third party ones like this Anker too: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y427WT7/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Man, they should at least include it for the X. But at the very least, I'm glad BOTH phones can do it. It was one of my complaints earlier.

Wow that is FAST

So does the X support recording and viewing HDR video?

Nothing was said specifically aside from the screen's HDR10 support...

Whatever happened to the rear facing depth camera that was rumored for some time? As I developer was really looking forward to playing with some Tango/HoloLens style spatial mapping,

I'd come to terms with no TouchID and the price and I hope that those will be addressed in the next model. What really bothers me is the design. I don't even mind the notch, but I hate the black bezel still being really noticeable and the gaudy stainless steel band, not to mention the camera hump looking bigger than ever. Needs iteration IMO and I REALLY hope we don't have to wait 2 more years for it.

My iPad was on the public iOS beta and got an update named iOS 11. Full version releasing sooner? Nice if so.

EDIT: No update on my iPhone. Bummer.

When I'm watching a YouTube or Netflix video and the left side of my content is obscured by it, I'll be bothered by that.

It shouldn't be obscured. It's wider than 16:9. If you're watching YouTube it should have black borders that blend into the bezel (and because it's OLED it'll actually blend not give you the backlit black effect).

So, to answer my own question (as well as some others'), the official Apple site page indicates that to use the new LTE Apple Watch you require an iPhone 6S or above on the same carrier. Meaning you can't buy one without an iPhone and use it as a "phonewatch".

this is incorrect. Apple specifically said (and showed live) that it makes calls without the phone. You likely need the 6S or higher in relation to whatever cloning/sharing it does with the eSIM to keep your same phone number. Which also is likely why for the time being it is limited to only a few carriers.

No, apple wouldn't call a feature "new" when it is literally the same feature that was already there. c'mon.

the new LTE Watch can make calls without the phone.. but according to the spec page it needs to be paired to a 6S or higher to do so.

So technically we can't utilise the entire screen :(

Yes god forbid some of us are ok with a 20x more secure platform and are willing to possibly invest in a stand for our phone to insure it always works as intended.

Oh but how would these desk users unlock their phone without picking it up?

Uhhh, really? S7 Edge just requires me to push the home button and it scans my finger in that time. If just want to read a text, email, etc, I actually don't have to pick it up. It's actually really useful when combined with wireless charging.

This reminds me of what they did with the iPad Pro 12.9 inch where the included charger isn't more powerful to charge the larger battery in it. In some cases you can even use the iPad and it will slowly lose battery because the charger cannot keep up with what you're doing.

makes a difference =/= makes a huge difference
Huh! I would consider a claim that it can't do 4k because of the battery, a huge difference. I mean, that's why you called it puny, and not capable of doing 4k.

Battery isn't the reason why the iPhone X isn't doing 4k.

So you think they got two extra hours of battery, from keeping the same display, with the same battery size?

So that is the paypal loan.

Here is the iPhone upgrade programme.

Well you can tap to zoom. But at which point yeah the notch would cover some of the content. That notch is always going to be there unfortunately. But it should theoretically still be a better viewing experience than the other iPhones, even with non-full screen video it still fills more of the phone overall.

You said put it on the back but then use a phone with it on the front as an example. Am I missing something?

It is.... Battery IS a reason why many Chinese manufacturers don't go over 1080p (that and cost).

Also, I quoted a poster asking why the 8+ didn't go QHD (not UHD). Hence my answer.

Will the iPhone x still come with the dinky ass power brick?

Kinda insulting that Apple still does that practice.

All the other companies put in fast charging stuff in the box.

No reason for them to be cheap about this.

Impressions are saying that individual attendees can't play with FaceID because it's just keyed to the demo presenters. Hmm.

I may want to wait a year to jump into this, I think.
