A lot of people are making ridiculous statements simply because they were able to get one and others aren't. The "some people have jobs" comment, well yeah most of us have jobs but not everyone has a job. With that said just because you have a job and were able to get one (either waking up earlier or being available for the time being) doesn't mean that position is the correct position. There's people who work the graveyard shift and can't be there in time, people working double to make extra money, people who have kids to watch, people who literally can't do it. Somebody literally said that others "wanted it more", seriously? What kind of bullshit is that. Just because there's low stock and you're able to get one doesn't mean that it's acceptable, no, you just had a way to get it. The same can apply to other products which when you're at your job you won't be able to get while the others, who were working those shifts and watching those kids, would be able to get.

Overall at the end of the day the stock issue is the problem, not who has a job or who doesn't have a job. If the stock was correct we wouldn't be seeing this.

I'm seeing way more people blame other customers rather than the companies themselves lately. That's some foul shit. People aren't entitled because they're able to get a Classic when others aren't. We're all under Nintendo and these other corporations and playing by their rules. Go at the Game Master, not the other players.

Some fun thread this is turning out to be! We get it! Some of ya got such an amazingly perfect daily schedule that allowed ya to trouble free get one of these! Hooray for you! The heck are ya sitting around heckling others for have less then impeccable schedules??

Bleh!

Got alil more Secret of Mana in. Moving along at a nice pace with my now full party! A full... grinding pace that is! Gotta have every character build up every weapon, naturally! And the sprite is named Sprite because thats just the way its gotta be!

Excuse me? Target and Walmart went down/out of stock in under 30 seconds. Amazon went up at 4am and was still OOS within hours. Best Buy I never even saw go up.

I went to 4 retailers yesterday morning; Target, Best Buy, Gamestop and Toys R Us. Only Best Buy happened to have two left.

Why are talking about store stock when I was talking about Pre-Orders. I don’t even think Target had Pre-Orders. If they did they were the only ones I didn’t try.

Best Buy went up, whether you noticed it or not is none of the retailers or Nintendos fault. I’m just stating there were multiple chances to Pre-Order with multiple retailers. And no Wal-Mart was not out in 30 seconds. I didn’t check out multiples there, but I did recart over and over just to see for 40-45 minutes, and individuals in my family had no issues purchasing. If you had 4 retailers give you four chances online in advance through multiple hours of the day, plus launch day stock online, plus local Best Buy all around me having stock until 1pm, I got to believe there’s a disconnect somewhere in how much you actually want the damn thing.

Considering I go to bed at night I think it is a pretty good indicator.

Wal-Mart Pre-orders were like 1PM ET. And I remember being in an uber around 7pm pst (not sure) for Best Buy. Pretty sure comepletely different hours for other retailers. But go ahead and sleep 24 hours.

I’ve been using the 8bitdo snes clones for a long time and love them. And they have a “retro receiver” which is a dongle that plugs into the Wii port and can pair with all sorts of controllers. So that’s what I’m using.

And yes, I press down + select and get back to the menu. It’s great.

So just to be absolutely certain...

This here will work with the SNES Classic, has the same build and "feel" of the official wired controller, and can access the Home menu with a Down+Select combo?

Any cons whatsoever? I'll purchase this thing right now if that's the case.

Consider yourself lucky. Of course there are going to be people who got a pre-order. Doesn't mean it was easy to get. There were tons of people on this forum who couldn't get one while trying even with Wario64 updates. Target's website was malfunctioning when the pre-orders went up. Wal Mart sold out in what? 30 seconds? Granted that was the first roll out of pre orders for them. Not sure how long it took for the 2nd roll out to sell out.

Adding to this, it's not when the pre-orders go up, but how long they last that you needed some luck. I don't foresee another NES situation, and while SNES launch is an improvement, it was not enough for launch day. If future shipments match/exceed the initial roll out, then SNES may be easier to find by the holidays.

Scalpers are a symptom of a problem, with the situation controlled entirely by Nintendo.

You’ll also need their “retro receiver” dongle. But otherwise yes.

I’ve seen some dissenting opinions about “authentic feel” but many more of us seem to think it feels perfect. So I don’t know. I don’t wanna steer you wrong and have you upset later. But to me, it feels great.

So I talked to an EB games store rep - basically Nintendo will be producing SNES mini's until the end of December, so don't lose hope yet!

It'd make sense to stop there tho I think. I think this was still meant to be a limited time product.

It depends if the TV powers its USB ports when the TV is turned off. I haven't tested our TV to see if this is the case.

According to the paper manual, you should power the system off (you will see the SHUTTING DOWN text which will goes away), and then unplug it. Otherwise, says the manual, there might be malfunction or data corruption. No one has any idea why though, other than Nintendo erring on the side of great caution.

Well if it's trying to use the shut down sequence as part of the save state functionality, cutting the power at the wrong time would be a bad thing. I think that's more than great caution, since it does take several seconds.

The daughter and I played some SMW last night, and both kids cheered me on at Super Punch Out. Great times!

Aargh!! Is that all I had to do? Is go to the store and buy one???? I'm sooooooooo dumb!!!! I ended up going to a library and tried to buy one!!!! I'm suiuuuuuuiicj a dummy!!!!!

Someone remind me to go to the store and buy one I haven't tried that!!!!! Aaaaaaaargh!!!!!!!!!
I mean, that’s what I did. You’re not just going to be able to go to Amazon or Walmart at any given time to buy something like this at MSRP, ever. It takes a plan, and patience. People sacrificed sleep, time, work, fun, etc to be able to buy this item. Nintendo even came to the plate (because of NESC Scalpers heavily increasing demand.) with a shitload more units this time, and has promised more to be readily available.

Best Buy preorders and GameStop were early evening and middle of the day. Can’t recall WalMart.

If you’re talking about general release on the 29th with GameStop and ThinkGeek I’ll concede to that, but Walmart/Amazon/BestBuy/Gamestop Pre-Orders were not stacked at the same time. You would literally have to sleep through a whole week, and also not follow any social media of those stores, or our resident Wario64.

I’d argue if scalpers didn’t exist and Nintendo would just lower output of production. There’s an amount they want out there, and it’s likely would be close to demand level. It’s like buying any other limited edition item.

Nintendo is intentionally making just enough, and if they don’t want sitting inventory this is how the release has to be drip feeded out.

They do this with products for their mainline console too, like the WiiU gamecube adapter.

Agreed 100%. Scalpers will always exist, and it’s to the benefit of everyone, as it in actuality grows the availability of the device. We’re even getting another NES restock now, and possibly indefinitely, which may not have happened had the demand not increased due to the resale market.

I’m gonna stop derailing the thread though. Take it to PMs with me if you wanna discuss this further. I just don’t appreciate being called a bad person or jobless hobo thief for selling an extra console I got. Hope you all get one soon.

Is this it? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JU57ES6/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Kind of a bummer I have to pay an extra $25 for it. Is there an Amazon bundle with the controller and the dongle?

Yes, clearly consumers were willing to buy them for $200 on Craigslist, but wouldn't have been willing to buy them for $80 on Amazon.

Huh?

And I walked into an EB Games and preordered my PS2 easy peasy the week preorders opened up. I don't think online preorders were much of a thing back then.

No, but people were on lists a mile long to get one. Me and the gf split a pre-order, only reason we got the first run was that we pre-paid it in full which bumped us to the top of the list at Software, Etc. Many people had to wait weeks to get one, even with a pre-order.

I wanted to sell it - they were going for like $600? leading up to Christmas - that's how hard it was to get one. The Wii wasn't any different.

Not everyone can just get a half day off. My boss doesn't give a shit about a video game system. I did as much possible extra effort as I could to get one.

The boss doesn't need to care about why you want time off. If you can't take some time off of work, you're working too hard. If you're in something like awful part-time retail it might be hard to get it off, I sympathize, even though it has been a long time since I did retail. If you just didn't want to use vacation time to get a SNES classic, well, that's your priorities. My wife probably wouldn't organize time off from her busy schedule for something like this, but she'd do it in a heartbeat for a concert.

Or know someone that will do it for you. I stayed up an extra couple of hours after getting one at Target (#3 in a line of 15 for it, the store had 41) to get another one at Gamestop, for my coworker, who was working at 6am and was too busy to step out for a bit to try and get one.

I mean, they did pretty well on stock this time. Everywhere I went, almost everyone I stopped and chatted with folks in line, there was like *juuuuust* enough for folks waiting in line, or close to it. Any new console / hot item is going to be hard to come by, even more so since ebay became a thing like 20 years ago.

If you don't want to get up early and wait in line, you'll have to wait for another shipment. If they had shipped double this amount, there would probably just be that many more up on craigslist and ebay.

It's always either time or money to be invested if you want a day-one launch. Even flops like a Wii U were fairly hard to get on release day.

Some of you are either in denial or living in your bubble. The snes classic was not easily acquired by the masses. It's not the sort of thing that everyone got a preorder in or can walk into the store and buy.

Hopefully Nintendo stays true to their word and keeps production up. But for some of you to claim people aren't "trying hard enough" or "putting in the work" to get one are terribly wrong.

Wal-Mart Pre-orders were like 1PM ET. And I remember being in an uber around 7pm pst (not sure) for Best Buy. Pretty sure comepletely different hours for other retailers. But go ahead and sleep 24 hours.

I'm confused as to why you're so combative and toxic against people who couldn't get one?

Lots and lots of people cannot get their hands on one. Fuck us though, it's just our fault?

Nintendo shouldn't do something standard like announce when pre-orders go up anything like that.

Fuck us if we're busy for the 5 minutes to 30 minutes a pre-order goes up or asleep at 3AM when it goes up?

The game selection is absolute pure gold. One can, of course, complain about some missing masterpieces, but every single game in there is a true gem that deserves its spot.

People were complaining that Kirby's Dream Course was included; I never played it (surprisingly, my SO did, even though I don't think she ever owned an SNES). We played a round of it and it's so fun! It's the mix of golf, billiards and Kirby powers I never knew I wanted.

True. But Kirby's Dream Course should not have been in over Chrono Trigger. That is the biggest mind numbing decision by Nintendo not to include that. My original cartridge some guy when I was in the EBGames line at 7am said would sell for over $100+ with the box and manual I kept.

I wish Pilotwings was in. Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Earthworm Jim, Mortal Kombat II, NBA Jam, and instead of Street Fighter II Turbo which does have the best versions of stage music including Ken's we should have got Super Street Fighter II with the new characters Cammy, T.Hawk etc. I don't necessarily want to mod this thing but those additional games I would have paid double the price for this easily. Hell Donkey Kong Country II I think even over Kirbys Dream Course no offense.

Some people have jobs.

I can't believe how stupid people are being about this. If preorders sell out in less than a day, they aren't readily available. It's like Stockholm Syndrome in this thread with some of you.

Personally have not said it was readily available, just that a miniscule amount of effort it was possible to purchase starting August 22nd for those who want it. It’ll never be readily available, because this isn’t the kind of product launch Nintendo wants.

Not sure why you continually bring up 3AM, 1AM, or some other early morning time. Not saying it’s anybodies fault, but that Nintendo produce quite a bit of stock so if people took some measure of planning I feel they can obtain one.

If you did have situations for months keeping you from purchasing I apologize.

Let's be honest, obtaining a SNES classic wasn't easy by any means. Yes, it was definitely easier than with the original nes classic, but if you didn't jump on an online preorder immediately, or line up early for a store opening, you are kinda Sol.

While us enthusiasts have mostly found one way or another to grab one, regular people looking to get one are going to be dependent on strong restocks to pick one up.

Maybe moving forward Nintendo can start to do open preorders before starting production to get a good sense of demand, but they love the hype limited stock gives to their products,so we will probably continue to see the same moving forward.

For those playing MMX for the first time, before jumping in go to the options and set dash to either l or r buttons. Otherwise you have to claw grip with 3 buttons to handle jump shoot and dashing.

Guys tone down the rhetoric. This is the official thread not the preorder shitshow thread. This was near impossoble to preorder in my opinion, and I had to go 3 hours before opening to be the last person in line at an EBGames. It wasn't an NES Classic or Wio situation but it also isn't as simple as anyone who wanted one could get one. The people at EBGames told me they expected another shipment next week so I would assume better restocks than the NES versions.

We're all gamers and fans here. Empathize with those who didn't get one. Scalpers are also the bane of all our existence and have been for decades.

I literally did every possible thing I could do to get one. I stayed up for 48 hours trying to call and find out and visit stores that may have had some in stock. I tried taking the day off ahead of time, I asked my boss if I could leave early.

I'm not even mad I didn't get one. I'm more mad at people blaming me for not getting one. Or not ditching work or working "retail"

You sound patronizing btw. It my fault I didn't take time off work lmao I tried now what? I even asked my family members to help me out. Not sure what else I coulda done other than quit my job or face the possibility of a reprimand for ditching work.

Edit sorry if I sound bitchy. I hope you got one and are enjoying it and I hope I can score one as well.

No shipping on my Walmart order yet, says preparing right now and my estimated date is 10/3 anyway so I’m not too worried about it.

While this is right, Chrono Trigger to this day is being sold full price on Nintendo DS I guess, plus there's already a quite fantastic collection of RPGs on the thing. I can understand why it's not on there, but I also think it should have been.

This has everything to do with my CT cartridge being destroyed by a falling PS2.

Like someone pointed out, this kind of talk is probably better for the pre-order thread.

But I edited my post a bit to add, I was #3 out of 15 people in line at 5:30 for one at my Target. In a city of like 120k people. They had 41 of them. There were ~25 available for anyone that walked in the door at 8am.

I stayed up and got a coworker one at Gamestop also. I got there at 8:45 or so (after going home to get the kids' lunches and help get them off to school). I was #5 of 13 people by the time they opened at 10. We had one person show up that couldn't get one.

I mean, supply was better this time. It's not like the NES classic where there was like 10 of them, if you were lucky, at a Target or a Best Buy.

Again, if they had doubled supply, there'd probably just be that many more on ebay & CL. You want a new release hot item, you have to show up and wait.

Agreed. Sorry I got riled up lol. Yea supply was better this time, but you still needed a bit of luck and time to get one. All good, I hope your enyoing your system, I hope I can still get one!

Random question: I’ve played through Earthbound a hundred times but I don’t ever remember the “Key to the shack” item disappearing from your inventory after unlocking the shack. Is this a bug or something from a later version of the game?

So just to be absolutely certain...

This here will work with the SNES Classic, has the same build and "feel" of the official wired controller, and can access the Home menu with a Down+Select combo?

Any cons whatsoever? I'll purchase this thing right now if that's the case.

You'll need the receiver, plus I think this one is the vone to get right now:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0748S3GXG/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Compatible with Switch too.

Months? What are you talking about? It started going up for pre-order in late August.

How am I supposed to plan for something that is unknown. Nintendo doesn't post when pre-orders go up ahead of time. They plop out of nowhere.

Guess I'm not a big enough fan to deserve one though, should have been stalking twitter all day during work and after to make sure i can get it exactly when it randomly pops up.

Agreed. Sorry I got riled up lol. Yea supply was better this time, but you still needed a bit of luck and time to get one. All good, I hope your enyoing your system, I hope I can still get one!

It really is just the scalping that ruins supply. I get it. I don't do it really any more, but when I was younger and poorer and the wife was a stay at home mom, I had a scenario just like this one. One on the way via slow shipping, so I waited outside of a Target all night. Then it was for a Wii. I was a nightshifter at the time anyway, so staying up wasn't so bad, although it was fricking cold in MI. I sold my spare on ebay and the extra money helped buy formula and diapers that month and paid for the other one. I won another in a Newegg contest and sold it on ebay, it helped pay my car insurance that month and freed up money for Christmas presents for the kids. We were always struggling for money back then, so the time spent was worth the extra money to me.

It's really the people that will pay the hardcore scalpers that are the problem.

I mean, on my local CL, there's this posting.

https://annarbor.craigslist.org/vgm/d/snes-classic-mini/6326329949.html

00N0N_e9S226SgH3U_600x450.jpg

This guy has already sold like all of these for $150 to people who wanted to pay more rather than wait outside a store or wait for a restock.

This one. Don't know if anyone's tested it with the SNES Classic yet but it should work.

Reviews are claiming the wireless connection is spotty, though it seems to have favorable reviews overall.

I have no idea how good this will be since it’s unreleased but this may be a better option for you: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074HBNNH6/?tag=neogaf0e-20

It comes with the wireless dongle too.

That color scheme....

It sounds petty, but as I said before, a big appeal to the Classic is how the controller looks and feels. Getting a wireless controller with that kind of color scheme could take me out of it.

Plus it's not out until December, and I'm hoping for a wireless option within the week, if everything checks out.

I can't see how you can blame Nintendo for it selling it. Yes they completely mishandled the NES Classic last year and that has lead to increase in people buying these to resell but the inventory levels at some of these stores for launch were incredible. You never see a launch of any device or product where individual stores are getting between 100-300 units. It is unheard of and Nintendo should be commended for it. The fact that most stores limited to 1 per customer and they still sold is a testament to the demand for the product.

Was this trick patched in SNES Mini?

https://youtu.be/IU4FFOD3OF4?t=1m5s

I tried this trick in SNES Mini without results. But, I tried in version 1.0 of the SNES USA game, and works fine.

This was patched on later releases of the game (1.1 or 1.2) on the real SNES. Chances are this uses the later ROM versions but until someone gives some hashes or a general dumping tool is released only a few people would be able to confirm.

A lot of people are making ridiculous statements simply because they were able to get one and others aren't. We're all under Nintendo and these other corporations and playing by their rules. Go at the Game Master, not the other players.

Been saying this since the NES classic. Even if Nintendo were more communicative about everything then we likely wouldn't be seeing such vitriol being thrown around at other people.

Best Buy went up around 1 am EDT.

The only reason I have it is because my brother was up and pre-ordered one for me, because I work a 9-5 like a lot of other people and was sleeping. If it wasn't for him being up, I would have missed out, because all of the other pre-orders went up during the day, while I was working, so I wouldn't have been able to preorder them either.

No shipping on my Walmart order yet, says preparing right now and my estimated date is 10/3 anyway so I’m not too worried about it.

I'm in the same boat, but I'm definitely worried it's not happening. I'd be extremely surprised if there are any un-shipped units left to ship.
