Yeah I have a feeling it was more Square Enix's call than anything else on that.

Have we started posting which games should've/could've been on this collection out of the box yet? Because I have a few ideas, limiting myself to no liscenced (as in a property that a video game company doesn't own like Ninja Turtles or Batman), and no sequels (so Donkey Kong Country 2 is out even though I'd love for it to be here):

1. Actraiser
2. Illusion of Gaia
3. Chrono Trigger
4. Pilotwings
5. Legend of the Mystical Ninja
6. Tetris Attack
7. Sunset Riders
8. Zombies Ate My Neighbors
9. Cybernator / Assault Suits Valken
10. Secret of Evermore

Legend of the Mystical Ninja and Tetris Attack / Panel de Pon are even more puzzling considering they're on the Super Famicom Classic Mini. I get they wanted to limit the number to 20(+1) games, but it would've been nice to be at 30 like the NES Classic.
Pretty good list. For co-op, I’d personally have ZAMN at the top. I would also add Pocky and Rocky.

Yeah, so I called a bunch of local stores for this thing, and they were all sold out. I had to chuckle when the first thing from Best Buy's automated voice was "Inquiring about the SNES Classic?"

Yep, this is going to be fun... Ugh.

Seems to be readily available at Nintendo NY. They didn’t close the line until about an hour ago. Coworker grabbed one mid-day with a one hour wait time.

They’re going to be stocking it throughout the weekend, from what I heard, but don’t know when the next restock will hit.

People seem a little confused about the 8bitdo dongle, mainly because they have many products. One of them is an adapter that plugs into a regular snes and allows wireless controls on your original console. Obviously that’s not what you want here.

They have another one called retro receiver (edit: seems they call them all retro receiver so you have to look at the image to see what it plugs into) It came out around the same time as the NES classic, and plugs into the Wii style port. It allows a variety of wireless controllers to pair with it. I use it just for the snes clone controllers from 8bitdo, but I believe it works for TONS of controllers like ds4, Switch pro, etc.

Out of the box, it doesn’t work correctly with the SNES classic (only NES classic). However, they’ve ALREADY released the firmware update to make it work appropriately. Takes 2 mins to do and works perfectly. I’ve been using my 8bitdo controllers all day. Added bonus: down + select = reset; so no need to get up.

Seems to be out of stock right now on it’s own.

So does this mean that X2 and X3 work?!?!? (Look at the box art that is small) of course this could mean they were just testing it.

The built in emulator does not have Cx4 support as far as known.

I want to do for OT2 a breakdown on what could controllers you can use, including the 8bitdo ones. Differences, better breakdown of the games with artwork from the 3 regions if they differ and other things.

But gotta reach 20K posts first unless I get mod approval to make it before that.

Edit: and post the proper NA box ffs.

HDMI handshake? Have you tried unplugging and plugging the video cable? I have to do that with my Fire TV occasionally.
Yeah I’ve tried leaving power off unplugging everything, etc. it did auto shutdown I think and now not even a complete unplug power cycle will bring it back. Just wondering if anyone else has had this or if I’m missing something.

Try a different HDMI cable?

I was on a business trip and totally forgot about this. Is it pretty much sold out everywhere or can I stroll into a store and easily pick it up? I am still driving, so can't check stores right now! Thanks!

Considering EviLore is stuck updating the OP, I would imagine you could get that.
I guess

Initial stock is sold out, so wait for restocks. There were a lot at launch so it isn't a NES Classic situation.

I was at a conference for uni over the break and I was really hoping that it would have arrived by Friday afternoon after it shipped on Thursday. Now it's the long weekend, I caught a cold at the conference and all I can do is read about the SNES classic.

Went out with it set up in the car today for some Uber driving:

Weirdly Super Punch Out was the most played game.

There were four fucked up guys going to a strip club that tried to play 2 player in it for like 15 mins and couldn't figure out it wasnt a thing. While they were actually playing single player, they created a backstory for "Jay Gabby", the first opponent: He's a 56 year old General Manager at Wal-Mart. He drinks at the bar right by it. And he fucks. A lot. Undefeated in his league till they came along. He's gonna go "pop a Viagra and get some pussy, he don't even care he lost."

At one point I reset it for them so they could pick another game. Excited by the inclusion of Street Fighter II, they picked their game. I smiled as I heard Super Punch Out boot up again to their dismay and confusion.

I hope you packing man. I know the demand for these things is crazy but last thing you need is for someone to rob you right inside your car for it. Be easy out there bro

I mean, I have all of their info available with them using a raid share service should anything occur. You cant see anything from outside of the car either. But I appreciate the concern!

This is so awesome, exactly what I was looking for, thank you so much!

Would you happen to have a link to the exact snes clone controllers on amazon?

Edit something like this?

This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. I wish Uber drivers in my city were like this.

I ordered from Walmart on Aug 25 and mine still says it's preparing too. It still says it's going to arrive on Monday.

Thanks—I know many who ordered on the 25th have had their shipped, but haven’t seen any 22nd orders shipped.

Score one for Kirby's Dream Course. At a friend's right now and he freaked out when he saw it was included, says he used to play it with his dad all the time. We're playing 2P right now and having a blast. My first time with the game, I could see this being my go-to chill out game on this now. Great little action strategy game.

I kind of given up finding one of these things. Both my PAL and NA Amazon pre-orders were cancelled a day before launch date, and I couldn't secure one when the stores opened up in Vancouver.

It's basically the NES Classic all over again for me.

I mean...

if the demand were there it is 100% doable.

Yeah, but you might find people camping out in your car for hours.

Which is alright I guess, as long as they pay.
Until they need to use the bathroom, anyway...

I see a number of the same drivers in my town.
I should start suggesting it to them.

Nitpick:

They didn't change the "Shutting Down" screen from the NES mini, so it has an 8-bit font rather than a 16-bit one.

lol okay well first of all: no. But second, I didn't say Pilotwings was BETTER, I said its exclusion is more baffling. It's Nintendo's own game. There might be all sorts of weirdo reasons CT isn't on there.

Pilotwings is a weird omission as is Donkey Kong County 2 and 3 (though it seems like there are some rights issues with those games with Microsoft since they got delisted from the Wii VC at one point, which is too bad). It's too bad Nintendo wasn't able to get the rights to Chrono Trigger either for the SNES Classic, Pilotwings, DKC2&3 and Chrono Trigger would have really rounded out the library of games in the box.

DKC2 and 3 are still on the Wii U VC.

I mean... Both systems run the same resolution and most fonts are usually either black and white, or with one shade of grey and one transparent color...
