Nioh coming to Steam on November 7, Nioh Complete for PS4 same day

Koei Tecmo just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Nioh for either system, nor will they purchase any of Koei's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Koei Tecmo has alienated an entire market with this move.

Koei, publicly apologize and cancel Nioh: Complete Edition for PC or you can kiss your business goodbye.

I'm glad this is coming to the PC. Had my fill on the PS4.

Unfortunately though I would suggest folks waiting for a sale. Its a mediocre game, all in all. Decently snappish. But very uninspired combatmechanicswise.

Is this a joke post? I must be missing something.

I think "Japanese" people would also laugh at the fact that people think this constitutes being dishonorable. Claiming to be an expert on Japanese culture, not sure if trolling or not.

There's going to be loud angry people complaining but that happens in the west as well.

this is a copy paste meme.

you got got.

Yeah, I thought it must have been but I was unsure.

Edit: actually I swear I have read this somewhere else before, but can't remember what game was referenced at the time.

Edit: Beaten.

If KT plays their cards right, this could very well be their best selling game on Steam.
So lets hope that the port is actually decent and the word that's out so far is just poor PR.

Also it's amazing that some people still haven't seen an "I'm an expert" post and fall for it.

I just checked the game's file size (with all 3 DLCs downloaded) on my PS4, and it comes in at 55.3GB. So there's an extra 44.7 GB worth of extra data in the PC version. My guess is that this is probably stuff like better textures for the 4K mode.

And speaking of that, I'm really way of their retention of the Action Mode/Movie mode split in the PC version. There is no reason for this, since PC players can just tweak settings to get the performance they want. If this is some bullshit like 60fps is capped at 720p or 4K is capped at 30fps, it's going to be a shit show.

Great game but Koei Tecmo's abysmal ports can definitely fuck this up.

Fake Edit: BTW, I think the co-op thing was patched in one of the many updates the game launched. If you use the Torii gate you can play missions with friends who have yet to do them or something like that. Ah, another perk for the PC version: You can play with other people without paying extra money!

Likely higher-res textures and really poorly-compressed video cutscenes and whatnot.

I'm definitely interested to see how much better these textures are over the ones in the PS4 version, but it's the second one that I dread. KT's pc port team could definitely screw that up.

I still doubt that it'll be 100GB. More likely the 100GB requirement is during installation, and the game will end up having the same size as the PS4 version. On Steam, during the decryption of pre-loaded data, you need at the very least double of the installation size.

So much this. They even did exclusive Steam item so maybe they are going to do more effort for this one. I hope they are not going to screw this, i wanna buy so much but can't trust KT. We'll see.

"The PC version will include two visual presentation modes: Action Mode, which aims for a stable 60 fps frame rate, and Movie Mode, a “cinematic” option with a 4K display resolution. Koei Tecmo's note to press suggests you can't deviate from either of these two modes, no matter how powerful your PC."

So it seems it's a direct console port with no extra graphical options. You have to choose between 4k and 60 but not both? Uh.....well um....I will be skipping this.

Welp.

This just went from Day 1 to Waiting for sale / Durante fix.

Why do devs continue to pull this shit

I know its really early and the accuracy of these numbers is questionable, but it makes me sad Blue Reflection is doing so poorly, especially when the 720p news wasn't true in the end.. know I shouldn't expect it to get anywhere close to what Nioh probably will, but this is still really poor sales wise.

Amazing game, one of the highlights in an already stacked year. So buy it! Still planning to play the expansions one day, but after already putting 90 hours in the main game I need some cooldown before I dive back in.

After some of the K-T ports I've dealt with, I'm amazed it still has any online functionality let alone managing to retain all of its functionality. By my expectations from K-T this is a godlike port solely because nothing seems to have been lost or downgraded
that we know of
.

People on Twitter are breaking their game disks and raging at Tecmo, lol 😂

Why does the game case say only on PlayStation if it was coming to Steam? Oversight by Sony? I said it was coming to PC ages ago and got blasted

Its happened to other games before, Danganronpa 1 and 2 had only on playstaton then got pc ports. Fate extella had it as well and that came to Switch/PC. Only on playstation doesn't mean much unless Sony handles it themselves lol

Beautiful. I'm glad the game actually brings me some joy, even when the game itself is boring.

Maybe the game ended up being a bigger success than they initially expected and they worked something out with Sony?

If the game bombed then I doubt they would have bothered with the Steam port.

PlayStation labels mean little to nothing. They are generally incorrect and don't even match between regions sometimes.

interesting, arent most video real time on PS4? The armor I am wearing always shows up in cut scene, would be hilarious if KT went trhough all the trouble recorded all the cut scene into fmv just for pc to save optimization time or whatever reason. Won't be surprised though.

Good one 😀

I'm praying this is a good port. Would be ecstatic if they got Qloc to work on it or some other high tier porting studio. The fact that there is a steam exclusive item has me holding onto a little bit of hope. But I definitely won't be preordering unless they come out early with port impressions.

EDIT: Nice getting the port into hands now will tell us a lot.

While the 720p news weren't mostly true, the game does have other issues, such as a game breaking crash that stops progressing (likely to be patched soon) and some effects look worse than the PS4 version (mostly shadows related).

Pics from youtube videos so they're very compressed, but enough to tell the difference.
Really awful object shadows in the left side (more like dots on PC than actual shadows...), and the possibly ambient occlusion or shadowy effect on the doors and door windows in the right.
Even the non-buggy shadows look worse too on PC, bottom right corner.

Is this some kind of meltdown?
