Nioh coming to Steam on November 7, Nioh Complete for PS4 same day

I can only think of a single action game of that variety that uses analog in any fashion at all, and it's DMC4 using analog triggers for revving Nero's sword, not using a stick for analog movement. You could easily disable walking in the game and absolutely nothing would change in that game.

Yea, again, no thanks. I can't imagine playing some of these games only being constrained to one speed. The added benefit of being able to quickly adjust between a couple of different speeds in regards to positioning is a huge benefit for analog movement, as not all character positioning corrections require a lot of movement. Hence my initial post.

Despite saying this repeatedly you still have yet to offer a single example of it impacting any mechanics in an action game.

If you need me to tell you why, in a character action game, the ability to move in a variety of different directions, at different speeds, to better position ones self, might be important to some players, I feel like the argument is a lost cause for me that you'll never understand or accept.

Fuck it, I'll buy another copy. Love this game and if nothing else good sales on PC might lead to the NG trilogy being released for current gen/PC

I did. I'm glad you think your opinion on something is a fact.

Have a good day. I'm tired of you misunderstanding my posts and going on unrelated tangents about mouse precision and what not.

Adjusting movement speed for precision just means your not that great at action games.

I wonder if a PC version was always planned or did the PS4 version under-perform?...I'm shocked it's coming to PC and with all the DLC...hopefully it won't just be a straight port and will have some PC optimizations...but I'm expecting pretty much a Dark Souls 1 PC port with fan created mods like Durante's DSFix helping

Actually it sold really well. I imagine, considering how this is coming not even a year after the PS4 release, it was always planned. It's already sold over 1m, and I can see this shifting a LOT of copies on Steam. Looking like one of KT's biggest properties going forward.

Now, I said I wouldn't double dip earlier in the thread, but that helmet...it's tempting. Shame it doesn't seem to have a full armour set to go with it though.

..if handled properly. The fate of Nioh on PC depends on how it performs at day 1.

People don't give a second chance, and we all know that KT don't patch their PC ports.

I think it was always planned. Sony stepped in for timed exclusive.

True, at a glance it seems like KT has been quite lazy optimising this. Now it's just a case of waiting until footage and more settings details drop before we can be sure. Not sounding good so far though.

Koei Tecmo gave only patched 2 games that I know of. Sophie and Dead or Alive. Everything else gets updated with over priced costume DLC.

Just know it won't support ultra wide.

Koei rep said since they switched to direct x 11 they wont support ultra wide for some time if at all.

All games prior direct x 11 never stretched did black bars. Warriors all stars stretches image.

Gee thanks

That's literally a reply i got regarding all stars

The hell though? How does DX11 preclude arbitrary widescreen?

Trails of Cold Steel is a DX11 game and it has support for theoretically unlimited width.

It's annoying when you buy a game thinking it's an exclusive and then it comes to the PC where you could have gotten a better experience(even if it's a bad port on PC it will probably still run better than the PS4 Pro edition(which has a variable resolution ranging from 720p-1080p in the 60 FPS action mode).

At this point I don't buy any games with the "console exclusive" designation on consoles because it could come to PC at a later date.

This console gen has taught us nothing is exclusive anymore outside of Sony or Nintendo first party titles. Right now it feels like exclusives are just the triple A early access equivalents.

EDIT: double posted without thinking sorry guys.

Regarding the two resolutions/framerate settings my thoughts are -

- We know that Nioh has been in development for 10 years, and possibly 3 years of full development. I doubt it was 'planned' for anything other than PS4s from the start. Most of the KT PC ports have been afterthoughts. Nioh did extremely well in the west after alpha and beta demos on the PS4 with the western audience seemingly enjoying the difficulty of it more than the Japanese audience. With a huge Dark Souls audience on PC already given steamspy numbers, and with nothing for them in well over a year, it makes sense for KT to bring it over now. Thus I think PC wasn't always planned for Nioh and probably only decided after the initial response to the demos.

- A lot of Japanese developers seem to tie the framerate to the game logic or animations. I wonder if that's because most software development there is for a single console and not having to cater for unknown or minimum specs. Rewriting Nioh would probably take them significant amount of time just to unlock the framerate and probably be deemed not worth it. This game will still run at 60fps, which should probably be enough for most people, you'll just have to select action mode. The action mode also features dynamic resolution, but I'm hoping KT will let you select the resolution (otherwise there'll be riots on Gaf).

The game is more Souls x Ninja Gaiden x Diablo (loot) than just straight Souls. Going into the game thinking its Souls is doing a disservice to the other awesome Ninja Gaiden, Diablo-esque aspects of the game. The combat here straight up lets you clown fools if you're good enough, which you can't really do in Dark Souls. However you can still make progress by getting better weapons and items if you're less skillful.

The game was uploaded to Steam mid-last year. That's not to say the PC version was already complete, though, as it's impossible to know what state the game was in when KT stopped fiddling with it last July and its Steam app has been modified roughly two-dozen times over the past ~two-and-a-half months. Regardless, I'd say what happened is that the PC version was put on the backburner when KT began talking to Sony about overseeing retail distribution.

Thats a good sign to be honest , DoA5 is also Team Ninja :)

As for the two game modes there is supposed ro be third one inbetween judging by Karak's review

Of course it was. They announced it as a console exclusive. They just had a deal going on. It's not the first, it's not the last.

It's possible the activity stopped because the job was deemed complete, but it's also possible work was halted because KT began talking to Sony about retail distribution.

Interesting.

How much it will be?

Pretty sure it'll be $60. It's the base game + season pass after all.

"Unlike the PS4 version, the PC version unlocks all seven weapon types, ninjutsu and onmyo magics from the beginning"

never played this on PS4 but this sounds like a big deal

Basically they're saying all the dlc weapons and skills would be available in the base game.

Ah interesting! I'm probably wrong about the PC version as an afterthought then. But still its probably a straight up port from the PS4/Pro with no changes by the looks of things.

It was supposed to release on PS4 last year until they bumped it back a couple of times due to reworking things form the alpha/beta trials and it resulted in a Feb 2017 PS4 release. The game uploaded to Steam would have been a pretty early alpha/beta version I'm guessing.

So the PC version of Nioh is Nioh Complete with all the DLC?

Man I'd consider getting it if that was the case - along with the regional pricing (hopefully) that KT usually has.

EDIT: just checked... wow damn. an OP should edit that into the title that Nioh Complete is coming to Steam Nov 7th.

Man look at all the languages it supports.

This, I'd think. I was still able to benefit from the DLC despite not reaching it (you have to complete the main game first) because I could buy the DLC weapon types and get them as drops from enemies. So this should basically be the same as buying the digital deluxe version today on PS4.

I have to admit that I'm still tempted to get it on PS4, since it looks like a fun Platinum to get, like the Souls games.

But then again, better performance and visuals, plus a cheaper relative price (the base game hasn't hit €20 on PSN yet...) are a nice incentive to get it on PC!

Had been going back and forth about getting a ps4 pro just for this game. Now that it's on PC, unless the action mode is stuck at 720p, I normally wouldn't mind double-dipping. However Being KT there is probably a zero percent chance they would allow us to transfer our saves from ps4 over and that is a huge minus for me. Don't think I wanna put in another 100 hours going through the main campaign again on "normal" mode.

It probably wouldn't be 100 hours. I started replaying the game again and breezed past so many missions in so little time. Knowing the stages, boss patterns, combat system, builds and optimal strategies going in makes the game go by so, so much faster.

Come on man, I don't know about the KT not patching games thing but tons of PC games have crappy performance day 1. If anything at this point PC gamers are way more patient about that stuff because otherwise they wouldn't be playing a lot of PC games anymore.

I see this being talked about as a timed exclusive for PS4, is that true? Because so far i only see people on forums saying that and no official words on it. I've always been under the impression that this was a console exclusive for Sony? I'd love to see this come to Xbox though. But i'm not holding out any hope. So many of these Japanese games ignore Xbox altogether.

it's definitely a platinum to get. and mad fun too!

I'm aware of that. But the difference is my 2nd point, KT don't really patch their games. So if it's in a warring state day 1, don't expect they'll ever fix it with patches. PC gamers might be patient, waiting for KT to patch their PC port is way beyond patient.

However, with Nioh being a Team Ninja game might give us a bit of a hope. As stated above DOA5 was a decent port with a decent support from them. But ultimately, it's still not a good port as it's a port based on last-gen version, which means missing features from current-gen consoles version.

One less game to get a PS4 for.

Unless you only game on console, which is the case for me. I'll be getting a Pro sometime next year and if the game hasn't been announced for Xbox by then, which i fully expect, i'll get it for the Pro.

Thanks man. But he seems to only be talking about PC. Guess we'll have to wait and see if it stays console exclusive and next to that a PC release or if Xbox might be on the cards. Probably not. Which sucks, i wish all these deals would be timed deals, not full exclusive. Goes for both camps.

100GB

Why

On a more positive note, I literally had the itch to play Nioh last week. First time since I played the Alpha/Beta.

Now I don't have long to wait for the ultimate version!

Except dat 100GB...

Wow, this really sucks. :(

Not really surprising in the end. The price and that artstyle on the game's title card likely turned off a ton of people. Fair or not, people see the schoolgirl aesthetic and immediately think it's a sleezy porn game due to how many of them flooded in after Valve opened the floodgates.

That's likely going to be wildly incorrect. The base game is ~39GB as per PSN and apparently DLC content was added to the game via patches, with the first two such updates being ~6GB and the final one ~7GB, making a total of approximately 58GB.

Maybe not. If they went all out on the 4K mode (lol), then that extra space could be 4K masters of the prerenders. Would be a nice touch, but if so they probably should have made it an optional download.
