Google was the last big 'player' to reveal. I was waiting to see what they were offering.

So the Google Home Mini - they mentioned something about it connecting to Chromecast. Did they just mean "play your music and movies to Chromecast", or can I have the Google Assistant voice play over my speakers, too?

The bezel on the Pixel 1 didn't bother me much. Like, it's not my favorite thing, but I definitely don't have the reaction most people seem to.

Clip reminds me of the movie The Circle, super creepy.

Nothing interesting to me personally, looks like they are focusing on amazon with this.

Hah I thought the exact same thing when I saw the clip. I always thought the film "The Circle" was a take on facebooks bullshit but turns out it was google they were mimicking.

But yeah what the hell are Google smoking these days. Nothing they showed wowed me. The phones were so unbelievably meh, The ear buds look ridiculous and the Creepy Clip camera is just urgh.

I miss the Nexus line. Now I must go I want to watch that joke where they expect people to pay $999 for a fucking overpowered chromebook.

Oh you just mean that? You mean language translation software has been around for years? Yeah... I guess in my mind I thought you meant there was some hardware that does was this does - you're right that I can pull out my phone and do translations right now with Google translate, but I see that as very different.

Combine that with Google's software which has recently updated and made it what's probably the best all around language translation software, I'll say that this experience is very unique - like comparing a 2 way radio to a smartphone.

It’s not unique. You can buy headsets and other devices that do just this. You can use this software with a headset too.

It is, once again, something that has been around for a few years. And yes, just like Google Translate, it gets better over the years as hardware and software improves. And it is good that they built it into your phone now, but that’s about it.

I have never seen a more tone-deaf product reveal.

It's a spy cam that's constantly taking snaps and videos just sitting there? Who is clamoring for this thing?

Think the idea is interesting as something to take more pictures for special occassions. Something like a portable photobooth, I guess. Was somewhat hyped until the price. I can guess why it costs that much, but definitely not a match for the casual use it's best at.

nah, they aren't. Competitive price in the wireless space just like AirPods. Then again I think the Google Buds are wired right? So yah, probably a little pricey

Really good price for a features wireless buds. Would buy immediately if the buds were universal, but requiring it to be paired with a Pixel for features means I won't buy it until my next phone purchase in a year or two.

Hmm I hit checkout on the Pixel 2 XL and the page just refreshes on my shopping cart, it is not giving me an error message so I don't know what's going on.

When I said that the bezels were too big for a (late) 2017 device I got laughed at in the Android thread.

I mean, it's just inexcusable to charge that much money for a bezel design from 2014-2015.

So can we Swedish folks import it from UK and can we use the Google Assistant if we speak english?

Yep. I am using the Google Assistant on my G6, but the system language has to be English. Not sure if it's worth it tbh, it doesn't understand Swedish words and names so navigation, texting etc doesn't work.

are the bezels on the smaller guy really that big? i'm looking at my s6 and iphone 6s and they look about the same. excited to see proper measurement/comparisons and battery life

Think I'm going to go with an XL first thing next year. My LG G6 is neat and all, but the UI customizations and no power button or notification light have been bumming me out.

I should be able to sell it to one of my TMobile friends pretty easily.

Eh, I think we just have different ideas about what makes this different. What do you think would make this something new enough that it would have garnered a different initial reaction from you? I know it seems like I'm harping on you, it's just that I actually thought live translation headsets already existed, instead of translation software has existed for years and so have headsets

Looking at them side to side xl isn't that much bigger width wise. Just taller. If you can hold the small one, big one should be fine. Maybe a bit harder to squeeze in tight jeans though.

Telekom, do it! I want to order mine now. The Google Store is sold out for months.

btw. google promises "at least 3 years of software AND security updates" on the German page.

And what's the difference between the Pixel 2 2.5D Corning® Gorilla® Glass 5 and Pixel 2 XL "3D Corning® Gorilla® Glass 5"?

I already have the Pixel 1 and it's the perfect size for me. Don't really need/want anything bigger.

phone design moves pretty quick, the pixel 2 bezels look pretty out of place now

i say this as a pixel 1 owner

Finally got it to work on PC through the Fi website.

Think the issue was the the XL Black & White was sold out, but it took awhile for the website to stop allowing people to add it to their cart.

As soon as I changed the order over to Just Black it went through. Ship date of Oct 19th. Glad that the rumor of the XL delayed ship times was not true.

This looks horrendous.

The small Pixel 2 looks worse than the original wow, they legit made it worse.

Objectively you are not wrong, same size screen and the 2 is 1.9mm taller and 0.2mm wider. Screen to bezel ratio went down from 69.0% to 67.8%.
