Google Pixel 2 - answers are coming Oct 4th

lol @ the removal of the headphone jack.

Didn't they laugh at apple last year and now doing the same thing for no good reason?

So they mock Apple for headphone jack last year.

But not only that they don't have wireless charging. How does google get away with this? Seems they paying all the top youtubers to shill the product. As everyone wasn't mentioning these products and just talking how great and rosy everything is.

Now the software side is brilliant. But the hardware has a lot to be desired.

Wait, is no wireless charging confirmed? I figured they just didn't mention it because it was a given since the Nexus 5

Watch them have dual cameras next year

Trash. Maybe next year Google will offer a worthy successor to my current XL. I didn't plan on getting a 2 but this was still a letdown, especially when you consider the lack of headphone jack and wireless charging.

Im most interested in getting cheap Pixel1/XL's for my parents now (On moto G)'s. 2nd gen is not worth it at all.

I have a 5X and it does not have it. Pretty sure 6P and Pixel 1 don't either.

I pulled the trigger on the Pixel 2. I really really hate the headphone jack removal, but since there is an adapter included, and one exists for charging while using headphones, I'll deal with it. However I really hope they don't continue this trend. My 5X is kind of outdated and I imagine the Pixel 2 will be good for a few years at least.

Honest question: how can people voice their feedback for lack of headphone jack other than voting with your wallet, since in an industry where old phones get left in the dust, that becomes increasingly difficult to do?

Honestly, for the money, I didn't think the original Pixel was a worth successor to the 6P. It feels like they're been going backwards.

You people do know they can and likely fix things with software updates right? Ok so it probably won't ever be as good as two cameras but christ on a bike, it's not the most important feature on a phone. Who the fuck takes many of those types of photos anyway?

I agree on it’s usefulness, but it also appears to be the 'thing' this iteration for the camera.

I especially don’t understand why you’d want it on a selfie camera - surely a big part of a selfie is 'look where I am'? But difficult with the background blurred out.

They need to just colab with Samsung. Samsung tend to make the best and most innovative hardware on the android side for me. Google make the best software.

But I doubt that's going to happen with them taking over HTC effectively.

So apparently the glass on the xl 2 screen is supposed to be polarized. Will that have a negative effect viewing the screen using polarized sunglasses?

Galaxy Nexus says hi. It was nothing that great.

Buy phones that have it and if you ever get the chance via a survey or something, just tell them. The S8 and LG V30 have them so if it's something you want, dont settle.

No headphone port
No wireless charging
Fake dual lens camera that makes your face look like a 3d projected building in Google Maps (slight exaggeration but there's somthing really off with that Marques selfie)
Worse bezel to screen ratio than the iPhone X, S8, S8+, Note, V30, Xaomi Mi Mix 2
No expandable storage
No removable battery

$849/$949.

So what exactly is selling this phone? The ability to use Google Fi + quick os updates?

When Apple announced they were taking out the headphone jack, I thought I'd be looking at an Android phone like the Pixel series the next time I had to upgrade. Never owned an Android phone before, but I use the headphone jack on my 6S almost daily and I'd like to keep a phone that doesn't force me to buy another pair of headphones (not a fan of the dongle adapter as that's too easy for me to misplace). But if all the major Android phone manufacturers end up ditching the headphone jack, I guess I'll just end up sticking to iPhone. The headphone jack was the first time I was really considering switching to Android, but it's starting to feel that decision will already be made for me by the time I need to upgrade.

Oof. So my Nexus 6P's battery is shot after just under two years, which makes me less than optimistic about buying a fancy new phone from Google. Battery aside, its performance has been great, playing all the games I care about, so it's not like I need a real upgrade.

But I'm on Google Fi, which has great monthly prices but only works on a few phones. So now I'm left with either buying a Pixel 2 (probably XL) and going with a 1-hour phone for the next month, buying an original Pixel (at the same price), but in both cases setting myself up for more disappointment if it craps out on my like the Nexus has. A phone that can't even make it two years feels like a scam, and I don't like the idea of going right back to the guys that scammed me last time, y'know?

Plus the headphone jack thing is seriously annoying, both in principle and in practice since I'd need to shell out another $50 just so I could charge it while using it (like, say, when I'm driving).

So now I guess I'm going for a Moto X4? Presumably a more budget option is what I need since, again, performance isn't a huge concern, but it looks like its processor is actually weaker than my two-year-old Nexus's? Or at least the number is lower: maybe a Snapdragon™ 630 2.2GHz Octa-core processor is actually superior to a Snapdragon 810 Processor. It's got more cores at least, but I can't find any benchmarks for the X4. Or I could get the battery to my Nexus replaced, but that's $135ish, would presumably leave me phoneless for a week, plus my Nexus has some other annoyances (proximity sensor seems wonky, people tell me the call quality is bad: again, the phone feels like it's been kind of a scam).

Or I could look into other carriers, which would give me more options for device but cost more per month. Ugh. I hate research and comparison shopping, but I know I'll have buyer's remorse if I don't do it.

no headphone jack remains an immediate no buy no matter what. I just borrowed my brothers car today while mine got inspected and tossed my phone onto his Aux cable for the duration.

Jack is just too convenient too often for me to ever live without. Everything else they've misstepped on is irrelevant after that.

I like how cheap project fi is, so I am kind of stuck. It's cheaper than T-mobile unlimited data for me to the point where it is worth it.

The surveys sound like a good idea though.

Just get the S8+ or LG v30.

The last true android flagships that has android's ethos of giving the user options.

I saw a considerable performance and battery life upgrade when going from the 6P to my XL, but this was also the first time that I didn't really store anything on my phone besides apps (pics in the cloud). The phone is still a fantastic piece of hardware at just only a year old, and I'm gonna get as much out of it as I can before I give a serious look at next years' offerings. It's nice getting android software updates ahead of everyone, but we'll see if the hardware costs are worth it in the future.

It's as if they don't design their products from scratch and instead take other designs and modify them.

V30 is the phone for me this holiday. Google fucked up with this one.

Free unlimited photo video storage is a big one for me. I shot over 2TB of photo/video on pixel last year and while i keep local backups i love having full resolution in the cloud as well.

I've never used the Depth effect before so i don't really care if there is a second camera. The Pixel 2 is the highest rated camera phone out there and things i do care about like low light performance and fast autofocus is where it shines.

Also the fact tmobile is giving me $325 cash back helps since it brings the price down to ~$500.

Edit: That said if the V30 DXO review blows the pixel 2 out o fthe water i'll probably return my XL2 and get that instead.

So the reason why we're unable to order the Google Home Max is because it goes on pre-order November 13th 😅 and on sale sometime in December.

Most folks, myself included, buy Google phones for the pure Android experience and guaranteed OTA OS updates. When the 6P and 5X launched it became clear that Google wanted out of the budget unlocked phone market and into the mainstream flagship. You are now paying for a premium phone that ties beautifully into Google's growing ecosystem. There is no one "killer app," nor has there ever been with any phone.

Shame that for the 'pure' android experience you have to massively compromise on the actual phone.

People still expect removable battery in 2017?

You were setting yourselves up for disappointment right from the start.

Finally replacing my Moto X Pure with the Pixel XL, will be excited to actually get updates from Google again. Pixel 1 didn't really have enough to make me upgrade, but finally having waterproofing, and the slimmer bezels on the pixel 2 xl convinced me.

I hate to agree but you're right.

Apple can charge the prices they charge for iPhone's because their hardware is of the upmost quality and resale value is really high. Not to mention their software/hardware integration.

Why does Google charge so high?
