To the peeps adding games, how user friendly is it to add games? Is this like some sort of beta testing or a full release? I wanna add some games but I'm afraid I might brick my snes.

As long as you don't skip the first step of "Kernel -> Dump Kernel" and then KEEP THAT FILE SAFE, you can't get a bricked SNES. At worst, you mess it up and have to reflash this dump which you KEPT SAFE.

This applies whether you do it now or wait.

Same. They have been insanely quick on shipping for all three of my orders this year (Switch pro controller when US stock was an issue, neon green/pink joycons, and the SFC).
Yeah, I've ordered a couple of items through them in the past and it's always been a great experience. It's nice to see them actually ship the items in (*gasp!*) boxes and not flimsy bubble envelopes, and I love how they use a backing board for the product along with plastic to hold it down in-place inside the box. Seriously great stuff.

Needless to say, they're my go-to website for import purchases, aside from items I can't receive through them or prefer to get elsewhere (such as scaled figures where I opt to use AmiAmi instead).

This might be a dumb question but I'm at work and haven't tried the hack yet. When you say dump is there literally a dump button or are we just making a copy?

One thing even the latest release of hakchi is not doing is flagging if a game has a battery save or not. Everything you put through hakchi gets this in its config file.

Code:
SaveCount=0

Which means even if a game has a battery save function, you won't get an icon for it on the SNES Mini. To fix this, go into the /snes_games/ folder before you sync, and manually edit the .desktop file. Change it to a 1 to get the battery save icon to appear.

So much useful advice, will do this later. Just hoping when my super famicom version comes i can use the same version of hackchi to do all this to that one too. no idea what will happen when i use 2 machines on the same version of hackchi

So I have a question about something. I saw some patches earlier for games like FF6 and Secret of Mana. I saw there is a massive patch/update for 6 called brave new world. How about I go about applying that to FF6 on my SNES?

So about how much space do we have to add games, and how should we leave free to be on the safe side for saves? I plan to add about 50mb.

Seconding this question.

I'd just like a safe limit for reference. Also to keep the boxart stacked nicely in the menu.

Edit: Also can someone link a boxart image at the correct dimensions, so I can just drag and resize the boxarts from there?

We really should have a modding thread to collect all this stuff, including properly sized boxes (and custom ones for that matter).

Normally I wouldn’t care about beta testing. But this little snes has kinda become important to me (mostly because Nintendo has made them so hard to get) I’ll just wait for the full release. But much love to all the people working hackg

It's worth noting that anyone with an email address should have free cloud storage and that's a fantastic place to KEEP AN ADDITIONAL COPY

Are you contributing to the official release?

Yeah, I thought I read about 250 or something. Would ~200 be enough for saves? (I'm guessing easily)

Looking at my save states in OpenEmu, it looks like SNES saves are 350-550kb each. So, assuming an average of 450kb per save, and four saves per game, you're looking at about 1.8mb needed for each game added to the system. 200mb should be plenty.

Got my 8bitdo wireless controller and dongle: works great!

Does the controller auto shut-off when idle, though? Want to make sure the battery doesn't drain when not using it.

so, for everyone who got it, is it worth it?

I might only be interested with yoshi island, earthbound, mario rpg, super castlevania, super punch out and one of two kirby games.

Also is it Final Fantasy VI or Final Fantasy III ?

Neat, thanks. Though ~450kb per save is way more than I thought.

Because blurry box-art as thumbnails is boring, this is how I've spent my evening.

I love the sprites instead of the thumbnails at the bottom.

The boxarts themselves are higher res too, no? (Or they just look sharper on my monitor than my big TV which is also def possible)

lol nice.
Is it possible to have two lines of thumbnails so that we don't run out of screen space with more than 32 games?

So the cover I'm finding with the Google button in the tool all have different sizes. I assume the tool automatically resizes them to the standard SNES Classic size?

If I want to edit them to be smaller to get more to fit on the screen I do it myself in the folder? Anybody has a suggested resolution I should use for good results?

My SNES keeps rebooting/crashing :/

When I have hakchi open it looks like it is something wrong with the 'clovershell' or something? Some lines are throwing an exception, and then it says it disconnects. Anyone with more experience have any ideas? Should I just wait for a different Kernel?

edit: what I see:

I was able to flash the custom kernel, put on games, and even booted MMX2 a couple times. But it was always very touch-and-go if the unit would boot or crash. Often took several restarts to get it going. Now, it just doesn't want to launch at all.

Of course it was worth it. The SNES is an absolutely amazing system.

Also, it's the game which was released in the US as Final Fantasy 3, which was released in Japan as Final Fantasy 6.
The game that was released in Japan as Final Fantasy 3 is a Famicom game.

damn, I wanted to finally try robot-ff

Thanks man, do I have to do the reset+power if I want to add or resync games? Or can I just hook it up and turn it on?

You can just hook it up. Personally I just have mine powered by my PC all the time, then hakchi can access it if it want. But you don't need to use the reset trick after the first flash.

Good to note that once you've updated the Kernel and modded the SNES, the next time you want to connect it to your pc to use it in Hakchi2, you just power it on normally, you don't hold the Reset button to put it in debug mode.

Was scratching my head for a couple of minutes trying to figure out why it wouldn'T connect anymore lol

added snes roms easy as pie. also down + select ftw. thanks to cluster and the other ninjas who make this shit possible. +rep

I'm resizing all my "_small" pictures right now to try to fit them all on one screen... 50% smaller version of the already small images is REALLLLY small on a 1440p screen haha
