I wonder why saying "even a broken clock is right twice a day" turns into a ban message for saying "GamerGate is sometimes 'on point'"

I mean we're talking about how the moderation didn't work but there are people going, "He said GamerGate? BAN HIM!" without irony.

A thread about Nintendo firing an employee who was an escort and your reaction is to say "hardy har har gamergate can be right sometimes" and you think that's okay?

I don't know where "hardy har har" comes from because I found nothing about that situation funny.

I got banned for something pretty stupid one time and the other two were what you'd call political in terms of GAF. One time I said a man who wasn't the prime minister of Canada was not the prime minister of Canada and was told I should consider whether GAF is somewhere I should be given my politics (I suspect that was a bishoptl ban) and the other, in that thread about how Nintendo fired an employee who worked as an escort, I said that I'm not for GamerGate but even a broken clock is right twice a day. That warranted a two-month ban, for which a mod told me I said GamerGate "is sometimes 'on point'". I don't know that I've used that phrase once in my life.

So yes, the bans were often bullshit and nobody needs that in their lives.

With the kind of "community" neogaf had the last few years of obnoxious bullies I'm glad it's gone. The most known members were also the worst engaging in political drama both in gaming and offtopic 24/7 and expecting the mods to back them up. It's refreshing to read honest discussion for once in years. So good riddance to that community that made neogaf a laughing stock everywhere else on the internet. And I mean everywhere.

I just caught up on the thread and I feel as if having the site open while you're still not sure what you're doing seems kind of counterproductive and stressful. It'd be best if it was closed and under maintenance, and then a new sticky with all the new rules were placed. As well as a stickied thread for open transparency where we can ask the mods and Evilore openly about our concerns.

I mean, the guys who make and manage the GOTY threads, Durante, majority of OT, people that post tons of OTs and insider info like Shinobi, the sales-age people like Zhuge and Nirloak are all moving on, so....

Zhuge got banned ages ago and I still saw his information here all the time. So whether or not those people are posting it themselves, their information will probably still find its way here, which is all that really matters.

That doesn't mean the forum needs to go full 4chan. There's a middle ground and funnily enough all these ~moderates~ aren't seeing it.

I know one former member posted about lacking the self discipline to not come back and that's why they requested a ban.

I still don't understand why people need to request a ban but it is what it is. I at least respect it when they do it politely. Posting porn and nasty shit does not get their holy message across, it doesn't show respect for women, and it accomplishes nothing. It serves no purpose than being a cry for attention. Definitely agree with you. Over the weekend, I kept coming back to GAF as this place still remains the best site for discussion imo, but I just feel with so many people creating account suicide and shitposting, that emotions are running really high. Too high, if you ask me. Also, people get over things with time and with that they'll decide as to whether Evilore or the community itself is what matters most to them.

He was an alright guy when just posting like everyone else, but he wasn't a good mod. He got caught up in deity status and enjoyed making a show out of committing mass bans. Dude would routinely enter a thread with a one-liner, lock it, and comb through it looking for the slightest reasons to ban people in droves. I think he would even unlock it back again sometimes to allow suck ups to praise his work.

That's how I got my first ban. Whichever one where the ban message everyone got was "c'mon son." My post wasn't even remotely offensive, but somehow got caught in the storm.
