The state of NeoGAF

People are still calling for Evilore to step down but I'm still not sure if that's a good idea.

In a twist of irony, I'm reminded of Nintendo and the Iwata years. Not saying the situation is 1:1, but I'm reminded of the talk of Iwata stepping down or Nintendo as a whole going third party.

Despite how much he [Iwata] screwed up, any drastic change in how Nintendo always operates would prove disastrous. Especially in the game industry where you're replacing a man who isn't a corporate suit but a gamer whereas the replacement would be someone who only sees the money.

I think Evilore turning down the million dollar offer for the site reflects that. He wants to see the site thrive at all costs. Had he given up ownership, whoever would be in charge during a disaster would either kill the site or make the user experience even worse, like placing ads in every post or desperately seeking out sponsors.

I like that trusted leadership that has existed all these years. Even in spite of all the accusations and problems. If Evilore is gone, there is no guarantee whoever takes over understands the culture of the site and would prefer to monetize the hell out of it until it's a dried up cow.

Except Iwata didn't have the accusations Evilore does. This is a very different situation.

But this happens all the time in real life.

Unless we live in a static world, people leaving isn't enough to stifle development completely.

Usually happens slowly over time and not overnight (or over a weekend) which is what we're seeing.

Iwata and Malkas cases are wildly different. You know why.

In the brevity of the allegations, sure.

But I still think the leadership part is apt. Again, I watched over the weekend when those mirror sites went up and they failed to handle and properly moderate the wandering GAF community.

I was actually surprised after reading the Waypoint article that Evilore said the site would be up the same day that news was posted. He has the years experience running the forum to pull that off and now this website still garners discussion.

There being a community here while Evilore is in charge goives him influence and authority agsinst his accuser, and what he has disclosed isn't good enough. Is he going to court? What if there is a settlement? What happens to the site then? The accused has rights but it appears that the community does not share in them, since any other thread bringing up these issues is closed.

Most sites doesn't lose a good chunk of active poster in a span of 1 - 3 days

Yeah, I keep coming back but it seems NeoGAF is kinda dead in the water. I never really posted much, but I guess I'll be back next week to see what's become of the site. Until then, don't get banned guys.

Edit: I'd like an invite too if possible.

I posted in the ERA PS4 community for invite just a little ago, but I thought I'd go ahead and mention an invite here in this thread as well.

edit: I should of been more clear, I am looking for an invite. sorry for the mistake.

Evilore failed to properly address this and most of the moderation jumped ship immediately. Hows that good leadership?

Things are locked down a bit due to 4channers trying to get in. Have patience people who want to get invited to resetera, the time will come. :)

I have no longer a unique email, making it impossible for me to enter (asked on Twitter, and the guy in charge of it kindly offered me some help. Still, I'll try to make myself heard here)

I also want an invite to Era, please. Sorry if it's not allowed here, but there are no other ways for many of us to contact a forum that is literally meant to be a successor of this.

Bad analogy, bad BAD!

Tried "GafGold" as the secret code for the new forum The Name Of Which Thou Shalt Not Speak.
Didn't work, of course. But it was worth a shot.

We're talking about it right now.

On GAF. For people who want to continue to stay here.
People who want to leave it want to leave it behind

That's amateur hour shit. They've got specific codes that last for 10 minutes each meant for each community and it's vetted members.

I just feel that this place has needed a big overhual on the look and features for a long time, and how long does it take to even get OT back? Does he really plan to remove it completely? Seems it would make more sense to have OT than the communities area where it's mostly just people asking for discord or something.

Should have taken care and put money into making it a more functioning and working place, maybe be too late now but let's see if he steps up.

I am not sure why others are surprised about gaf not allowing people to advertise another forum where all the members came from here, would you expect reset to allow go to gaf posts and links?

its funny how people were saying only a few hundred people would leave and it wouldnt have an impact on gaf, but theres already 2000 members in just an hour
