Returning member after a long absence, how would you rate the overall health of this forum?

Until y'all ask OT and its entirety, yeah I really do need to dispense with the idea that this form is video games first.

Your two most active threads on the video game side right now are about the polygon peace about toxic masculinity and video game culture, and The Escapist announcement concerning a commitment to not proactively speak on politics.

I'm glad that you decided to write this post, because it gives a better idea of the direction this form is moving, echoing the sentiments of your conservative users who take every opportunity to take a dump on feminism, yearn for a color-blind society, and fictionalize sexual orientation.

I would have expected more from a moderator than to build a strong man upon the absence of explicitly racist or sexist sub-communities as an argument, but given all that you have said prior to that, it wasn't too shocking to read.

I can say that my friends start threads about barbecue Becky, permit Patty, and pool pass Paul without me having to. Meanwhile, my enemies continue to downplay, deny, and deflect.

The revolution will be fought everywhere anywhere all day everyday.

"My enemies"

Lol. Fucking keyboard warrior over here.

You are achieving nothing snowflake. Nothing.

Unless awkward laughs are your ultimate goal.

Your enemies? No, people are calling out your bullshit for what it is: far-left bullshit. The vast majority of your threads/posts are no different than the very thing that you seem to want to demonize/whine about from the other side.

As I know Phoenix is a conservative individual. So I don't know what you call him far-left.

At this point, I'm leaning towards troll. His posts are a complete parody. Can't be serious.

...and with no punctuation

If off topic closed, I would be back here posting every day. Off Topic just seems like a poison that seeps across the site. Keep off topic community though.

If you're being honest, you probably just don't like being around people who have opinions that don't align with yours.

I'm left-leaning when it comes to politics, but that kind of intolerance is VERY common amongst people I know who are further left than I am.

I don't think the "it's swung the other way!!!" arguments are valid either. If the mods were all right-leaning Trump supporters who banned people for expressing left-leaning political opinions, sure, but that's not what's happening here at all.

It's strange to me how people who have such strong opinions on politics will run off under circumstances like these.

Busy threads are an indication of debate, and their position on the front page is due to regularly being bumped. Controversial topics will outlast more mundane ones. In that threads lifetime, how many gaming posts have been made across many other game related topics? I'm assuming you have this data from the database? This is where all the arguments put forward by people with the only intention to disrupt fall apart. Under any sort of scrutiny. I think you have a case of positive discrimination given the threads that you are drawn to. 36/40 threads on the main page are about games. 3 are about political implications of press/developers, and I'll even give you the Kingdom Come one as a favour ;) So that's 90%.

The example was to prove the illogical stance of the original post. I'm glad you took that from it, it was intended.

Again like Shiki_ you talk about enemies and revolutions. Yet, you sit on a videogame messageboard - to what effect? You think this community is here to serve you. The community serves itself. If people aren't coming round to your point of view, your arguments are weak, your points lack substance (i.e. actual data and content) or you are failing at articulating your viewpoint.

I don't know what a dakimakura is, but I will take a burrito.

A dakimakura is a hug pillow, generally made a bit more infamous since the pillow case will have a character (usually anime) on it in different poses. The character on the pillow though is generally in a state of undress, etc.

And they have them for both men and women. The ones for guys are more popular for obvious reasons.

As a discussion forum it's better, you can have different viewpoints discussing without being banned for ridiculous reasons.

But we also lost a lot of good posters on the gaming side, which is a shame.

I did too but it's because I was too neutral and crossing eden called me a moron without critical Thinking skills.

I'd like gaf to get more active and still stay free of extreme left and right nut jobs.

I remember him from here, lol, he shit this place up protected by his handlers, and he is doing the same over there. Won't survive 5 minutes here now that the debates can be more balanced.

Though someone here does remind me of him, a lot.

Someone said this on another forum, and it is so true.

It's pure egocentrism, is what it is. These people don't give a fuck about games, they just care about their pet causes. For some reason they decided that everyone else in the world also needs to talk about their pet causes, whether they like it or not.

There are many. One of them was Mr "I wish that one of these SJW journalists had children so that I could kick them in their fuckin' head or stomp in their testicles so they could feel the same pain they inflict on the arts every day." He is back after a week, clearly a good deserving vacation.

Where's the link?

Is this a joke post?

I was a lurker here for about six years but never registered until now. My buddy at work was a member and the way I was introduced, unfortunately and sadly, was him linking me to the Sandy Hook thread as the tragedy was unfolding. "They're pretty solid if you want quick updates as they come." And he was right. I was very impressed how quickly GAF had information compared to pretty much every other site, news site or otherwise, I was following. That day, GAF instantly became one of my go-to forums as it related to breaking news stories, and my #1 go-to website at work to just kill some time. I played videogames (still do sometimes), but I wouldn't call myself a "gamer." 90% of my browsing was confined to Off Topic, and I don't think I need to re-hash everything that transpired over the last few years and how it spilled into the gaming section. The less said, the better. The air was just simply nasty here and I found myself wondering how the hell a collective group of people could be so miserable.

Anyway, yes, absolutely, it's a much better forum now than it was in 2014-2016. And the idea of people saying it's an "alt-right" forum now is just absurd.

...the fuck happened in here?! Last time I checked in folks were being more or less cool with each other and now we have a revolution with hentai body pillows.

Jeez, kids. Chill.

I check in on here every now and again after previously posting for several years several thousand times. In the spirit of old times I may start posting actively again about movies, music, love and life. I requested a ban in the great purge but it wasn't a nuke from orbit affair - it was a culmination of things. The stuff with Evilore, well it was what it was - FWIW I hope you're doing well with your lot man. I don't know the full ins and outs of things that occurred, but I know the necessity to move on with life. If that's cool with you, I'll stick around

As for the state of things, well from occasionally glances it's slow obviously. Mods seem better. I post more on Resetera but that's mainly because of the speed on threads and the passion / humour in the threads that aren't politic centric. Theres many good people on there I've chatted with. Im a centralist politics wise, with views that allign with left and right (I've been beaten up verbally of being both by the opposite lol), and the big complaint browsing this thread is that it's some kind of leftist echo chamber - which it accurately is, but honestly I can deal with that as I just ignore those kind of threads - ultimately it's only a forum, I don't let it rile me.

There does seem to be a darker right undercurrent then before here. I'm for a several key right leaning ideologies and will happily chat with most, just quite a few of the posters here generally seem irrationally angry and want to provoke a reaction and not a decent response. There does seem to be moderates out there though so I may will chip in more and see what comes up. Hopefully I can get to know some of you a bit better

One thing I will say though - many people need to get over Resetera in terms of mouthing off about it. It is what it is. GAF gets a couple of mentions now and again but honestly, I can't say I notice it. Era on GAF though, it's like some people are like

Regardless of its faults, developing a healthy community on here again (and I do believe the spirit of allowing a more proactive ground of encouraging both right and left views is a good thing) won't really happen when people incessantly throwing mud at a place that took many good contributors regardless what you think of their politics.

Hope you're having a fun weekend wherever you are

That's probably the most GAF-like thing we've had in ages, to be honest.

Some things are civilizational achievements so there's nothing to discuss really. Things like women's rights, black rights, LGBT rights, the right for immigrant families to remain together... Among many other things. Like it or not, the truth is, a lot of users on this board want to challenge these views. And on top of that, moderation is pretty much non-existent. So yeah, why is there no activity? Why are there no women posting? That's why.

I just lurk nowadays. Most stuff, especially from off-topic, I won't get into, because it's not worth it. I suppose a lot of other old users do the same.
Who here is challenging womens/blacks/LGBT/immigrant families rights? I mean I know these people exist and that's a shame...but right here, who is doing that? Can you name names or find posts or point me in the direction? I haven't seen it in the few days I've been back here. Of course that may be exactly why I haven't seen it yet.

Next, someone explain to me what a "right" is, please.

Within America, being "right" generally means that the majority of your political thoughts/opinions lean on the conservative side. Within the online's outrage machine - that has now been quantified as "anything right of far-left". So those that are typical left-leaning/liberals could and usually are considered 'right' by those crazies.

No, as in black rights, lgbtq rights, what was the other....immigrant family rights. What does that mean?

OOooooooooh. That is what you were asking. Rights are legal, social, or ethical principles of freedom or entitlement; that is, rights are the fundamental normative rules about what is allowed of people or owed to people, according to some legal system, social convention, or ethical theory. Rights are of essential importance in such disciplines as law and ethics, especially theories of justice and deontology. As taken from the dictionary.

Basically, they are principles dedicated to those specific groups - as if they have some that others do not have? I honestly don't know. I am sure someone else can provide more info on that. Legalize is not my strong suit.

So... kinda like the real world? These people exist. We've learned what banning them for their wrongthink can lead to. You don't always get to have it your way and sometimes you have to just deal with it. Unlike real life, you can even put them on your ignore list.
I'm not saying anything about banning people for their opinions, but that balance here has switched and there's a different brand of assholes making things suck for other people. In time, hopefully, this place will reach equilibrium.

No longer being the majority opinion does not mean it now sucks for you. You know what really sucks? Not being allowed to share your opinion in fear of being banned. We have a saying here in Australia: "eat a spoonful of cement and harden the fuck up."

Hahaha look at this communist revolution wannabe. Motherfucker, you had the opportunity to go to university and you chose to do a participation degree in activist studies instead of STEM. You chose this life and now you're wallowing in it.

Behold, the participation trophy millennial in its final form.

Welcome back!

I'm also a returning member (actually, lurker) and I remember someone (I have forgotten who exactly, sorry!) summarising it quite well: "Most of the people responsible for the atmosphere back then went over to resetERA. Ironically, the reset happend over here.", I am paraphrasing but I think that this is on point.
