Sony Specs Hangover - Brad Sams

No. Not as much as price (caused by the packed in Kinect) and, to a lesser extent, the DRM backlash. The added power was a nice extra selling point, but it didn't play a major role.
Only indirectly. $499 and 900p vs $399 and 1080p.
Yeah, I think you're right, actually. Still, I think power is important at the beginning of a generation because it determines which console most games will look best on.

This is pure speculation, but I don't see MS releasing 2 consoles at launch. I think the SAD will be their low end streaming box, and then they will have their Cadillac new system to go head to head with the PS5. Not saying there isn't another new low end system coming, I just don't think it will be at launch.

I'm assuming either the regular S or the X will taken out of stock at physical retailers at some point... I'm thinking the regular S, most of them don't even want to carry two skus, let alone 4 or 5. Skus are going to have to be eliminated, if they don't pick up sales soon, some of the physically retailers probably won't give them room for 2.

Remember, its the games that matter. :messenger_beaming:
At the end of the day, this is what's going to drive one to be successful is the games. You can have a powerful machine but if it's not pushing out good games to show this, what is it good for. Nice take on this Vasto!

MS at E3

Yep. Ive been saying theyre going to over play their hand at e3 and box themselves in with some ridiclous claims. Killzone 2 reveal trailer except in console form. Does anyone think they are deft enough not to back themselves in a corner?

He also suggests Xbox went to AMD and told them give me what Sonys having but make it faster.

Which is a ludicrous concept in this kind of business.

Incidentally, I certainly don't deny the possibility that it might indeed be more powerful (why not? One gotta be), but this is most certainly not how it happened.

Lmao, why the fuck would Microsoft be shook? You seriously expect Microsoft to give Sony the power advantage once again?

Why would thy be shook? You really have to ask tht? They just got slaughtered this gen. Ps4 is trouncing them in sales, profit and revenue in regards to gaming and you really asking that? Sony pulled a fast one on them start of this gen with adding to the memory and don't get it twisted just Because Microsoft said they will be more powerful doesn't mean it will be gospel. What? You think Sony will just let Microsoft get an edge? Lol come on homie that's not how shit goes. Even if Microsoft gets a power edge, Sony will have something for that ass even if it's better pricing, some better features or something. It's never that easy. Power is not everything and doesn't equal quality.

Not to mention from Milo, to Kinect, to Cloud destruction and CD3 they've promised alot and disappointed. I never take their word for it.

Let's see how this plays out. Sony didnt give finite spec numbers for a reason 😁

5TF lockhart and 15tf anaconda could work. If the lockhart has the same CPU and SSD it should scale the games perfectly from 4K down to 1080p. There are still many people with 1080p TV sets and while I doubt MS would sell a load of them, they could pick up 10 million+ customers over its lifetime which they otherwise wouldn't have got. Also they could quickly ditch the Xbox One like a bad smell and never mention it again!

Still be a bit confusing to the market though possibly. Most gamers are thick so their messaging would need to be on point!

Your posts are hilarious, and clueless. My first ignore.

I don't think Microsoft "gives" that to Sony, it's for Sony to take it or not, or make their console more or less on par.. and they are both playing the same bluff game, trying to balance price with perceived value (performance, features, games, etc.).

But given what had leaked (depending what you consider more or less credible) my pick is:

- MS will come out with two "next gen" options, one being a bit more powerful than the PS4 Pro, probably with more memory, and the other being a beast of a console (was it like 12 to 14 teraflops?) + maybe some magic sauce.

- And Sony would target around 11 teraflops or so, no idea how much RAM, etc. I did not see any words about special hardware accelerated functions (given it's coming from Cerny there may well be).

- In both cases the CPU cores will be based off of ZEN2, but we don't really know the frequencies yet (I don't anyway) but I expect them to be close enough, so it probably won't make much of a difference in the end.

Which one will win out (if hardware was the only factor) depends on the respective price, and how they actually perform in the first batch of games

This did not come from those comments that Cerny made, the only thing that leaked was him throwing around buzzwords and showing off the IO subsystem, actual specs could always change before launch, or one could decide to push their launch back.

Sony has never been the attention seekers that MS are, they keep their cards close to their chest and play their game well... MS probably spends more on PR than on every other areas of the company combined.

I must say, MS has given me many laughs this gen, thanks MS. Shoutouts to; Greenberg, Phil, Brad Sams, Mattrick...These guys are just hilarious and of course the journalists and youtubers which vouch for them and push their angle.....Dealer Gaming etc....Whenever I listen to these guys, it's like reruns of Def Comedy Jam.......I keed you not.....

Brad Sams is very funny here, I've never seen a video of a person so shook, it's like one of those "MS will never relinquish power to Sony" type posts, which I've seen here quite regularly here lately, especially after the Wired article... It's as if they're trying their best to ring (MS Will bne more powerful) into people's ears, almost like a voodoo chant, so it becomes fact and painted into your subconcious...

This video is basically: Sony announced specs, but NO, they didn't announce specs.....They said nothing......Ha, MS is going to be more powerful from what I'm hearing anyway, well, it's not like MS announced any specs either, but DAMMIT Sony said nothing, where is the MHZ, TFLOPS, Where is that water cooling that MS will have SONY, Where? .......Whatever, we all knew this is what Sony would come up with anyway ha ha, but AAHHHHH! pulls hair, What a cheap tactic Sony, by just saying enough, you're going to force MS to say something more at E3 huh! such a dirty game you play.......I just can't believe Sony just gleamed the surface and said nothing, barely anything, Nothing man.......Sweats profusely, Whatever, those consoles are going to be close anyway, I',m not scared......Oh God, SONY SAID NOTHING.......How can MS react to what they have? Weeps a thousand tears........

Seriously, this has got to be one of the most convoluted, inner cries for salvation I've ever seen....HELLLLLP ME, SAVE ME....I'm not even sure how I am suppose to feel about this video tbh....

I think one of the things that would help with Lockhart is that it would potentially lower the cost of the SOC due to binning.

Right now both MS and Sony only sell their X1X/PS4P chips in one device so if your yields are poor, that's it. Throw away the chips that didn't make it.

With an approach like Lockhart/Anaconda they could get more useable chips overall and lower the average per chip cost. I think they could also use some of the chips on the cloud infrastructure side as well, especially if they go with a chiplet approach (for example they order 100M+ Ryzen chiplets up front to be used in Xbox and Azure servers). I think MS will try to use the economies of scale to lower their overall cost so that they can bring the highest end device they can.

Otherwise, the only way they can deliver a more powerful device is if they eat the cost since both companies are limited by the same manufacturing costs.

Fun fact,

The only type of post that's appeared on GAF more frequently than "MS will never relinquish power to Sony" lately is the "MS guy looks shook" type of post.

Congrats to you for using both in the same paragraph.

Wow its really called sony specs hang over, I thought the OP was just trolling. I stand by what I said, MS is shook. They are sending out controlled leaks now. Making absurd claims like the next halo has a 500 million dollar budget. Just take a step back and think how insane that is.
ok 👌

It's fun to watch fanboys from each camp use the same evidence to paint their favorite company holding all the cards, while the other sweats and blusters like an anime character confronted by their crush.

I love the console wars.

didn't that happened with the cell processor

Agreed, I find it funny as hell. It's like current politics, without consequences.

Brad Sams often has rumours with his name attached to it.

Is this guy legit and accurate? Or one of the million guys guessing, but trying to make it sound like he's an insider? What's his track record?

Haha, you don't think power had a huge part to do in Sony's advantage at the beginning of the generation?

It really didn't do much. It was Microsoft pricing their console 100 dollars more and continuing the generation with a lack of consistent quality exclusives. Additionally, Microsoft shot themselves in the foot with how they presented the Xbox One.

if MS want to "win" they can't focus on performance of the console.

it needs to be cheaper than PS5
it needs to have a solid line up of launch exclusives: forza 8, halo infinite and......well shit i don't know.
they need to present it right this time. just tell people it plays games and don't try any bullshit like it's always online, can't share games, uses the cloud, etc.

I find it hard to believe the Lockhart's specs at 4TF. Why would MS bother doing so?

They already have 6TF Xbox that is more capable, and I believe it will become cheaper as soon as the anaconda console arrived.

I think that many peoples chaugt up with Phill Spencer's message last year about the next gen hardwares (plural). I don't necessarily think it meant that it will be two XBOX SKUs at launch.

anyway, What do I know? I am not an insider nor analyst. Lol

it needs to be 5TF minimum. that number doesn't really take into account the power of the CPU/RAM. a 5TF Lockhart with a Zen 2 + more RAM could destroy the XB1X easily.

most people don't realise that these numbers mostly refer to the GPU performance. doesn't take into consideration CPU/memory so much. also the number can change easily. for example on my PC i had a GPU that was 6.5TF but overclocking it brought it up to 7.2TF.

It was a combination of things. Power was one of the big ones though.

The PS4 was more powerful, and yet cost $100 less. It wasn't the price. It wasn't the power. It was that deadly combination of the two. DF videos were spread like wild fire. Putting everything out there for all to see.

Your exclusives remark is off point though. MS had plenty of quality exclusives early this gen. (That's kinda their shtick). Ryse, SO, Forza 5 along with Forza Horizon. Meanwhile the PS4 had games like KZ Shadowfall which was severely overhyped, a barebones Infamous SS, and TO1886. Yikes! It wasn't until Bloodborn came along a couple of years later that the quality exclusives really hit their stride.

Don Mattrick was an incompetent idiot. He really messed up the Xbox One launch with PR fumbles, and other various things. Seamus Blackley who came up with the idea to have Microsoft develop a console posted about Don Mattrick nearly blocking him from addressing EA Canada:

and

Seamus Blackley continues to throw shade towards Mattick in the thread by agreeing with a reply "Thank god for Phil", and crying out laughing when somebody tweeted "So many Mattrick stories, so little time...". So, Don Mattrick pretty much almost killed the Xbox brand, and I'm glad he is gone. Phil Spencer has seemingly got Xbox back on track since.

Don't forget this quote:

"We have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity; it's called Xbox 360." - Don Mattrick

Mattrick did more harm to Xbox than anything else.

The console warz are over. Which is why this Brad guy is a douche, imo, pulling shit out of his ass. That site and Comedy Central (Windows Central) are horrible websites even if we're not even talking about gaming. The lead lemmings right over the cliff.

Don Mattrick was an incompetent idiot.

Assuming all those decisions were his, hint, they weren't - see Ballmer/Nadella (Nadella is the one that had huge influence).... Microsoft had committed to being MicroCloud back since 2010ish. You notice how very little has changed i.e. cloud services. Their goal still remains the same and Donny has been gone for almost 6 years.

Teraflops are not directly a measure of performance. We don't know how a X1x GPU compares to a Navi based one. For all we know the 4TF GPU could actually perform better then the 6TF GPU. When Navi releases, we'll have a much clearer picture of what to expect GPU performance-wise from the expected performance numbers.

Finally, Lockhart would still be a huge upgrade in terms of CPU and SSD, something that the X1X could never compete with.

Really Lockhart looks to be an update for X1S and Anaconda for X1X. The performance would actually be closer between Lockhart and Anaconda than it is now.

Lockhart is for the market that buys X1S/PS4 regular.
