You seriously expect Microsoft to give Sony the power advantage once again?
I don't think Microsoft "gives" that to Sony, it's for Sony to take it or not, or make their console more or less on par.. and they are both playing the same bluff game, trying to balance price with perceived value (performance, features, games, etc.).
But given what had leaked (depending what you consider more or less credible) my pick is:
- MS will come out with two "next gen" options, one being a bit more powerful than the PS4 Pro, probably with more memory, and the other being a beast of a console (was it like 12 to 14 teraflops?) + maybe some magic sauce.
- And Sony would target around 11 teraflops or so, no idea how much RAM, etc. I did not see any words about special hardware accelerated functions (given it's coming from Cerny there may well be).
- In both cases the CPU cores will be based off of ZEN2, but we don't really know the frequencies yet (I don't anyway) but I expect them to be close enough, so it probably won't make much of a difference in the end.
Which one will win out (if hardware was the only factor) depends on the respective price, and how they actually perform in the first batch of games
This did not come from those comments that Cerny made, the only thing that leaked was him throwing around buzzwords and showing off the IO subsystem, actual specs could always change before launch, or one could decide to push their launch back.
Sony has never been the attention seekers that MS are, they keep their cards close to their chest and play their game well... MS probably spends more on PR than on every other areas of the company combined.
