Kotaku posts article with rendered CP

Even if it was a character model of Hulk Hogan?

Sure, maybe. The context here would preclude much from feasibly happening since it was swiftly taken down. Gawker got blown up so hard over the Hogan sex tape for flagrantly refusing to take down the video after a court order:

wikipedia said:
Bollea originally sued Gawker for copyright infringement in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, seeking a temporary injunction. Bollea's lawyer was Charles Harder.[16] U.S. District Judge James D. Whittemore denied Bollea's motion, ruling that the validity of the copyright was in question, and that given the degree to which Bollea had already put his own private life into the public arena, the publication of the video might be protected by fair use.[5][17][18]

Bollea withdrew his case in the US district court and sued Gawker in Florida state court. There, his request for an injunction was granted by Judge Pamela Campbell in 2013. Gawker announced that it would not comply with the part of the court order requiring the removal of the post and associated commentary because it deemed the order "risible and contemptuous of centuries of First Amendment jurisprudence." Gawker removed the video itself, but linked readers to another site hosting the video.[19]

Yeah they only wake up the editor to do damage control, like when LKD posted an article accusing Nintendo of having a song with the word RETARDED in it in Smash Bros like that's even a thing that makes sense.
It was hilarious how they then threw their editor under the bus and tried wipe their hands of any wrongdoing. LKD is a pathological liar with a history of drumming up shit for attention, so it's ridiculous that some people gave them the benefit of the doubt.

Even Jason Schreier is distancing himself from this:

Title should be updated. It isn't CP.

Depends on your country. In USA rendered or animated or rendered depictions are borderline, and in UK and Germany they are classed CP as far as I know. Sure, it's not the kind where actual kids are sodomised, but that's not the definition of CP in many countries.

If it feels more accurate, I wouldn't object an updated title to "Kotaku posts article with render of realistic underage character being raped"

Kotaku losing attention from gamers so they go for the next best thing, appealing to the Tumblr crowd with their weird cartoon porn fetish.

Don't worry. Kotaku will get on track talking games.

Jason Schreier is due for another article or tweet about Bethesda blacklisting Kotaku of game previews and gold copies of upcoming games.

Ignoring the controversy over the images, is this seriously an article calling for better videogame porn? Imagine an article in your local paper complaining that the pictorials in Hustler just aren't doing it for the author anymore. lol.

Kotaku setting the bar so low only natives of Flatland can get under it.

I sure do hate when people say "We can do better" for, like, the 50th time.

No, Kotaku, you can't do better. This is your entire MO. These are the type of people you routinely hire. This is the kind of garbage content you push. You lost the benefit of the doubt ages ago, and you're not fooling anyone anymore.

While obviously not on the level of real CP, someone looking at hentai/cartoon porn depicting little kids/teens is still pretty fucked up in my opinion. But I feel like the CP label is the closest thing to this.

I might be wrong but I do believe there are some states in the U.S that have state laws for this sort of thing where rendered pictures are illegal. Some states and counties will prosecute and use it as dirt.

It's just those cases slip under the radar and rarely get national media attention or even local news attention. The 👮‍♂️ 👮‍♂️ 🕵️‍♂️ 🕵️‍♂️ 🕵️‍♂️ 👮‍♂️ 👮‍♂️ 👮‍♂️ 🕵️‍♂️👮‍♀️👮‍♀️ probably prefer it that way so pervs will screw up due to a false sense of security.

CP is vile shit that isn't comparable to cartoons man. Badly drawn ones or not. The Harry Potter one looks like some weird gmod shit that you could find thru google. The fact the article exists is the weirdest part of this. Or the fact said person chose to post these characters nude on a SF..is Kotaku SFW? Yeah that.

Lol it's not really that shocking. There is a ton of this on reddit and all around internet. It's something that almost nobody (i presume) looks at as "child porn" ffs....
People watching this does not equal child rapists

Bait thread or low effort/Low IQ thread to be honest.

This sounds like some over offended crap straight from ResetEra.

There are countless of Weird Porn on the Internet feautring ''underaged'' characters; it's called Rule 34...

It's fictional characters ffs. It pains me to say that the Popular Last of Us porn parody found on PornHub, while cringy is actually rather wll made so even I have to bow down for the effort.

Sonic characters are all underaged; Sonic is 15, Amy 12, Knuckles 16 and Tails 8.

There are countless of weird sexually explicit porn of SOnic online, where's the outrage for that?

Do you see now OP, how pointless your thread is?

EviLore EviLore

Real talk, could Emma Watson sue Kotaku? Since that character model is a licensed image of her from the Harry Potter EA games.

On what grounds? The piece in question doesn't even look like her. Plus, you'd just create the Streisand Effect. Panic over erotic art is one of the silliest things in popular culture.

The original featured graphic shots of Harry Potter characters, by some accounts based on the actors from the films when they were still underage.
I know I saw but these are literal videogame characters not real people. "Depictions" is reaching tbh. Like Alfen Dave Alfen Dave , said rule 34 exists and so does pornhub with way worse shit readily available and not blocked by the government. When are people gonna go after them then? Is this a thing because some shitty editor from a shitty clickbait website we make fun of posted dumb shit or are we really culture outraged here? Are we ResetERA?

While it's obviously not as vile as real people in CP. Cartoon CP is very much perceived as gateway behavior if the intention of viewing it is for sexual gratification.

I mean it's not a big reach to conclude that if someone is masturbating to animated kiddy porn that they might step up to the real thing one day.

I was entertaining the thought if the character model was ripped from the PS3 Harry Potter game and was a licensed character model of Emma Watsons likeness. http://www.dmlp.org/legal-guide/using-name-or-likeness-another

Personally I'm not terribly bothered by it all (other than that it was a worthless article) but I see why some think Kotaku may have made a legal boo-boo.
Posting NSFW in general seems to be their thing nowadays.

Well at the very least I don't think Kotaku's advertisers are happy with it.

I mean if your Nintendo.......... would you give them money to run adverts for Pokemon Sw/Sh right after they posted an article with Misty getting facefucked by Lickitung?

I don't care if it came from a PS4 game or a super computer game or a Wii game or a freaking NES game. That Hermione picture in the article does not look like Emma Watson. It looks like any bad computer model that could pass as a girl in a wizarding school. But it does not look like Emma Watson or any other famous actress. Its bad. If she or people were going to get outraged, there's artists out there with talent to do actual likenesses. And as for this, Watson is going to sue Kotaku over foolish editorial oversite, bring attention to erotic art of herself, and not even make a dent in it and probably not see any real money, so why diminish herself that way? It doesn't make any logical sense.

This isnt CP.
Cartoons can't be cp.
This is honestly one of the less offensive Kotaku articles out there and people are freaking out over nothing.
If u admire naked children in whatever form they are presented then you are on the pedo scale.

If you want to argue this I know a special purple place that has a special discord server to discuss and share these ideals

As I said I was "entertaining the thought" out of curiosity.

I haven't seen the video or all the pics of the Harry Potter one outside of the censored tweet that was posted in the thread earlier. I haven't seen all the pics posted in the article. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

I would prefer to not be on 👮‍♂️ 👮‍♂️ 👮‍♂️ 👮‍♀️ 👮‍♀️ 👮‍♀️ watch list.

I think of Hulk Hogan suing Gawker. He had a real beef. I doubt Emma Watson even knows what Kotaku or cares what Kotaku is. She has no stake in video game culture war nonsense.

I don't think he is defending this so much as he is saying it is a false equivalence. I don't get why you'd be into that shit myself but to me it is just a drawing and no drawing can be as vile and ugly as real life.

However certain people think like you here.

Again, my thought was if it was from a licensed character model of Emma Watson ripped from a Harry Potter PS3 game.

For example, if someone took Lebron James character model from NBA2k19 or whatever and ripped it and animated it to him sucking off Steph Curry. Then the video gets posted on Bleacher Report. I would bet he would probably sue the website for distributing and promoting the image.

Hentai isn't and will never be CP. Yes, it's illegal in Germany, but so are a lot of things that shouldn't be, like swastikas and holocaust denial. American law is good and true and all other countries' laws are fake and gay, as such American law is commonly considered the de facto law of the internet. At the very least you shouldn't try to hold American companies with American servers to international laws.

I dislike Kotaku as much as anyone here but this seems desperate and in bad faith. I get that you're trying to pull a reverse-callout, like that shit with James Gunn, but NeoGAF is hardly the place to do it. Go poast on Twitter or something.

And all this over fucking MISTY? She isn't even a Loli. By hentai standards she might as well be in her 40's.

EDIT: in response to those bringing up the PROTECT act: as far as I can tell this has only resulted in a couple of criminal convictions which all resulted in plea deals to avoid a constitutional appeal. In other words, the act is unconstitutional, and as long as Alan Moore's Lost Girls is still being sold at Barnes & Noble it's clearly not being enforced in any meaningful way. On a tangent, did you know that sex toys are illegal in Texas? Yeah, neither do most texans. Laws are only relevant if they're being enforced.

Well, maybe the Bleacher Report has to pay a bunch of money and goes out of business. Maybe not. Maybe it takes years. I have no idea. Meanwhile, the stupid image in question would spread like wildfire. The internet is forever and the moment something becomes a point of contention, the more people want to see it.

If the underlying point is these images shouldn't exist, if that's what we're really getting at, controlling thought and people's talent and their time, its impossible.

I doubt many other sites would be as foolish to post uncensored eortic art as Kotaku did.

Rule 34 doesn't have any government support for it as far as I am aware. It existing doesn't mean it should be posted on a site like Kotaku.

You can say it isn't child porn because it's animated., but in reality it's then the only "legal cp" a pedo can own. The whole premise of the article was "we can make better video game porn with minors than this".

Things that are common place on the internet does not mean they are not fucked up. There is a lot of fucked up shit on the internet.

Nobody is going after the journalist or doxxing her or whatever. Criticizing them posting dumb shit isn't the same as cancel culture.

Pornhub having weird shit on it is irrelevant when we are posting on a video game forum about a video game "journalistic" website.

It exists that is the point.

I can say that because it isn't real life. Easy right? Not that shit can't be ugly but it isn't as vile as the real thing. Sort off like playing a game and you shoot a dude in the face and it explodes so you high five your friend and think, "COOL, TITS!" Now in real life I see a person get murdered that shit depresses me and has some effect in my life.

Pornhub having weird shit is relevent as we are posting in a videogame forum talking about a website that hasn't really been about videogames for the last 6 years or so.

We have people on this same thread acting outraged more than anything rather than just laughing at the article in question. That was the whole point of the post. I didn't say cancel culture either so??? Or did I???
