That was during years 2-5 of the Xbox 360 era... they switch to going after the casuals because they were losing billions while Nintendo was making huge amounts selling casual games on two duct taped Gamecubes.

This...isn't true. Now PS4 was more powerful than XBO across the board, but their other systems? Nowhere near as clear. PS3 had a poorer RAM implementation and weaker GPU than 360 (conversely, PS3 did have the stronger CPU). PS2 had lower resolution, polygon throughput, RAM than Xbox and Gamecube (even Dreamcast in regards resolution and VRAM; Dreamcast supported VGA output and generally had better texturing and mipmapping); conversely, PS2 had the best pixel/particle fillrate of all systems that generation (even ports of games like Zone of the Enders to 360 had the particle effects scaled back on those ports).

PS1 had less RAM than Saturn and N64, lesser hardware for 2D than Saturn, less theoretical polygon throughput than N64 and Saturn and weaker texture stability than N64 and Saturn, but had better 3D GPU than Saturn and better FMV output than Saturn and N64 (due to built-in MPEG decoding hardware and use of CDs as delivery medium, which was something N64 could not leverage).

PS4 is the outlier in terms of Sony's home console systems regards being outright most powerful. They don't have the aversion to power the way Nintendo took post-Gamecube, but they are not as gung-ho on being the most supremely powerful as people seem to think, historically speaking. A balanced hardware approach has usually been their approach, combining with push of some sort of new delivery medium of game software. Basically they carry on Nintendo's older console philosophy in terms of power/price optimization combined with their own focus on new medium delivery mechanisms for each system.

Yep, Microsoft has hit the reset button since that 2013 disaster. They are more focused than ever. It's game on once the new gen starts and starting with what sounds like a pretty nice size power gap this time (if everything being reported is true).

I wouldn't say the PS5 looks "incredibly" powerful. It's gonna be fine, assuming the leak is legit, but a 5700 isn't "incredibly powerful." It's a nice GPU, but not what I was hoping for.

Of the four competing rounds of consoles MS and Sony have released, Sony have had the weaker platform (by varying degrees) three times.

There are many reasons for this, and it's no guarantee of what will come in the future. But MS have typically produced highly performant consoles and it's only fair to recognise that.

I'm personally not expecting a big difference in power between PS5 or Anaconda one way or the other.

In the console space, and as a direct comparison to the current generation, it's a very big leap ahead, imo, especially on the CPU side.

PS4 won against XBO and WiiU while having the strongest specs and the competitors were focusing on expensive crap like Kinect and WiiU gamepad at the start of the generation.

Now Nintendo in much better situation as Nintendo Switch outpacing PS4 sales launch alligned while Microsoft is focusing on console power and service like gamepass instead of TV entertainment box bs.

Again my point still stands, even the weakest system could beat the most strongest. Switch beat overall sales of the Xbox One. That tells a big story on what is going on now.

Can you show to us where Days Gone flopped? Because the only place we have data (UK and NPD US) the game surprised a lot with good sales.

Truthfully I think the bubble that'll pop next gen is battle royale (i.e Fortnite), but as to what'll replace that as the new hotness I don't know. It very likely won't be story-driven cinematic games, but I don't see that genre suddenly depreciating in appeal next-gen, either.

You're right; "bust" was probably the wrong word. Maybe better to say it's peaked and will see a rolloff through next-gen (not just Fortnite, the genre as a whole). It'll likely still be one of the premier genres for the decade, just not at the absolute peak level we see it at currently.

Microsoft has simply revealed the X model, the high performance one. It will be more powerful than PS5, it will be more expensive as well.

The main Xbox has not been revealed yet. This will be the Xbox that will compete directly with PS5, will be around the same performance and price (and form factor). With the Series X reveal, they simply wanted to talk first, and send a message "most powerful console will be Xbox".

Now could Sony have a second chip out there with no data available? Probably, but the odds of that are less than 10%. They shipped the new v-design PS5 devkits around E3 IIRC; those PS5 chips in the Github data were tested up to at least July, which is post-E3. Is is possible those chips are in fact dumped/old designs and the only reason they're being tested so late is because AMD may want to (for example) re-spin them into general APUs aimed at the PC market? Also possible, but if they have a lot of customization from Sony's end on them, I don't know if Sony would allow that (if they're in a position to do so, that is).

First of all congrats on making a fair and balanced post. You could have easily been dancing with the crazies in the "let's dig our heads in the sand by making up fake rumours thread" but you decided to appeal to mature behaviour instead.
I just wanted to point that the chip tests were undeniably backwards compatibility related, as they used 3 different hardware configurations and the first 2 match the base PS4 and PS4 pro (logical inference by DF: the third one is the next Sony console). For that reason, the possibility of another Sony chip unaccounted for remains theoretically possible, but the idea that the tests could have been for re-purposing the chips towards the PC market is most probably not.

Yeap and I never saw that Oberon name related to consoles yet...

It was rumored before. But the test file even includes the bc modes for PS4 and PS4 Pro next to the native mode.. So Oberon is definately Sony (if the file is legit). If it is the final APU, who knows. But test in middle of 2019 kind of says yes. But we will see sometime in the near future.

What I am most interested in: Having the same AMD information, how can you end up with a difference of 20 CUs? Maybe Sony went with the same design scheme as before. 36CU@2GHZ will already pull beyond 200 Watt, which is in the neighborhood of the consoles before and just put the focus on limited components like storage and CPU. The Series X looks more like 300+ Watt, which would be a new design paradigm.
