I don't know - I'm not sure homicidal maniac is on the bad boy curve. I think there is something more complex going on - but fucked if I can figure it out. There is definitely a 'celebrity' worship component.

I'm no psychologist, but these are my ideas and observations after having seen this kind of behavior for a very long time:
Part of it is the extreme version of "girls like bad boys", and another part is the glorification of rebellion against society.
Pretty much everyone who does this are girls aged 13-19 on Tumblr. That same demographic is also well known for wanting to be "unique" and rebel against society (but not in a way that would bear risk of permanently damaging themselves physically or socially). This the logical extreme to that behavior, loudly declaring crushes on dead killers. Something like this is so outside social norms that the girl doing it eternally has the ability to say "you just don't get me" and "lol i'm so fucked up UwU". Every negative comment or message they get will be affirming this "unique" identity, essentially turning it into encouragement. The thing is, with the rise of social media, people who behave like this don't actually have to live with the social isolation that would come with such socially unacceptable behavior and would naturally deter said behavior. Not only does their anonymous online identity mean that no one IRL will discover their behavior (meaning their words & actions won't have consequences), but it also means that they can find other people with the same attention-seeking mental complex. This means that they can find an environment where they can both affirm their own identity via negative attention, AND encourage each-other's identity via positive attention.
The reason it commonly happens with the glorification of killers is because these girls, who wish be seen as outside (and possibly even above) society's expectations, are naturally going to be drawn to stories of people who actually became the most vilified by society that one can possibly obtain, having senselessly and brutally killed people simply for their own emotional catharsis. They wish to "rebel against society", and do so by deifying people who ACTUALLY "rebelled against society".
That being said, these social and psychological factors lead to much varied and bizarre behavior that's not at all limited to glorifying serial killers; The ability to anonymously give and and receive infinite amounts of attention, a natural psychological need for attention, and no way to correct one's behavior, all lead to an environment where bizarre behavior becomes abundant.
That's why tumblr's always been full of furries, BBDLs, self-proclaimed witches, and all sorts of other degenerates and weirdos whose identity is entirely based around either their fetish or some sort of self-aggrandizement.
But Tumblr's been losing traffic in recent years, and lost MUCH of its traffic once the porn exodus happened, so now they're all shitting up twitter. But that's a story for another time.

maybe not strictly a "bad boy" thing but there is the sense of "danger" there that is similar to the bad boy appeal. Some people find danger to be sexy.
I would also think some people see a "diamond in the rough," someone deeply flawed that they can fix, that only they "truly understand."

Think about it. If you were into women in prison are you gonna be trying to hook up with some 60 year old in prison for life for murder or some 20 something bank robber, or embezzler, or shoplifter.
There is something more to it than just a preference for prisoners. Besides in all the examples you gave there is some underlying reason for liking that 'type'.

I don't think this is true. I don't think there are women that like timid guys or if they are, they are such a small percentage they might as well not matter. I think the vast majority would rather have someone that's been to prison for murder than someone that's shy.
I think the default is liking dangerous men, and that from there it ranges from women who understand that may not be a good idea, to women who don't care if their desire for dangerous men ends with their death as long as it means they get sexed good one last time before they get strangled.
