i dont know about no credible leaks. Andrew Reiner, Colin Moriarty, KleeGameFan and Jason Schrier are all very credible. between them, literally a 100 years of experience in the industry. Colin ran a PS podcast for years. he has sources within the ps nation. he has said multiple times that devs told him that the ps5 was definitively more powerful in 2019. remember ruthentic cookie said the ps5 was a monster in 2018, and said it was $499 and sold for a $100 loss. if thats a 9 tflops console then so be it.

i think sony's biggest problem is PR. they have always been shit. they had a few good years in the middle during the andrew house era but as soon as he left, shawn layden ran both e3 and psx to the ground. literally lol.

at the end of the day, you gotta have some faith in Cerny, and Sony. And i agree, this poor run of PR has instilled zero confidence, let alone faith. but do you really think MS can produce a 12 tflops console with Sony going with 8-9 tflops? do you really think cerny is so bad at console design that he would make a 2.0 ghz gpu and literally spend the same tdp to hit 30% fewer tflops? sony's PR debacles dont exactly affect their hardware designs. even when their engineering side failed, they didnt skimp on specs. the ps3 gpu was weaker, but the cell was insanely powerful and made up for a weaker gpu. the split ram setup was a poor engineering decision, but they still went with the same size ram as the xbox 360. adding a bluray in every console was a bad idea but they gave us MORE, not less.

And again, if MS has a 12 tflops console at $599 then good for them. if the best sony can do for $499 is 9 tflops then you have to tip your hat to MS and focus on what you can do with 9 tflops. there is no way MS is coming in at $499 with 30% more tflops. it took them a full year and an extra $100 to hit 6 tflops. meanwhile the last time both consoles went head to head, sony came out 50% more powerful with 8GB of GDDR5 ram and $100 cheaper to boot. if anything, odds are that sony will come in slightly cheaper while being more powerful, not the other way around.

Lastly, if the 8 tflops rumors are true then the 12 gb vram rumors should be true as well. if the ps5 was really that underpowered, we wouldve heard about it from devs already.

Target specs aren't the real deal. Only a fool would start trumpeting themselves as the power king based on targets. This is why Sony wasn't talking about their 50% GPU advantage pre-launch this gen. It just doesn't work that way. Whoever has the power advantage will market to that strength once real-world results exist, but not before.

A calculated, perfect angle picture as to not reveal anything by accident. I'm sure they took like 100 pictures and analyzed each one before selecting this one.

I do think the Sony PR could use a little polishing, but right now they are both in a very calculated game of chess with the info on the next gen systems, both sides don't want to immediately reveal their full hand until it is time so I totally get why we aren't hearing much right now (I don't think either are behind schedule), and even when we do hear something (hopefully sooner than later) I don't think we are going to get 100% of the details, I expect the price and maybe even the look of the console to come later. It will be interesting to see how they handle everything since they won't be attending E3 this year. I also feel like what you stated if anything Sony will be able to come in cheaper, my thoughts on that are because they can obviously show AMD that they can do heavy volume and by doing so negotiate a lower price for components, etc. but even looking at the BOM of the launch PS4 compared to the launch Xbox One, Sony had a better cost of some of the similar components between the two consoles. In the end though, I expect both consoles to be closer than ever performance wise, I don't expect to see a huge gap in either direction, so now we just get to all play the waiting game until the time is right...

This has 0 impact on the PS5 marketing/rollout strategy. There are hundreds of marketing managers/directors/leaders/etc. at PlayStation and the global marketing leads have a combined 25+ years at PS.

I'll say it again: Times have changed since 2013 and Sony has no reason to rush the process. We have more info about PS5 today than we did about PS4 on Feb 5th, 2013.

Sony went through a huge restructuring around the time when Kaz Hirai took charge as CEO. They sold of Vaio. People were shuffled around, people left, people were removed. That all clearly ended in disaster didn't it.

Sony did though . Before even ms announces x1 , Sony in February 2013 said (8 min in the ps meeting) welcome to ps4 , the most powerful gaming platform when it launches . Similarly ms said x1x is the most powerful console when it launches also before even Sony officially announces ps4 pro .

Again by now they both know roughly where each lands . It's not 9 vs 12 otherwise ms pr would be way different than what it is now .

Yea that's what we are discussing. I m saying if it was 9 vs 12 they would say "xsx is the most powerful console ever created " like they did with x1x but this time they keep saying "our most powerful console ".

No they didn't state that in the PS4 reveal, the 1st time they said it was at Gamescom 2013.

2013 Sony had a reveal date and people happily waited in excitement.

2020 Sony had an article then months later another article then a logo (what?) then "Not ready yet". What kind of marketing strategy is this?

There is definitely some 4d chess going on but last gen they had no problems announcing their console in February. they knew they had the most powerful console and knew it was too late for mS to redesign their apu by that time. So why not do the same this gen? i think they both know what they are going to price their console at. that was decided when the specs were first decided. its either $499 or $449. and MS wont announce the price until e3 anyway. so why not reveal just the specs and some games and wait for MS to reveal their hand at E3. then under cut them a day or two later.

i agree, both consoles will be within a tflop of each other.

Who cares about "being genuinely impressed". It's the same as your push of github leak - you oversmart things, that leads you atray and too focused on not so much important things. And as a result you miss a bigger picture.
Logo reveal generated a lot of buzz, and buzz, no matter how primitive or questionable it is, is pivotal to hype generation and marketing promotion.
Mindshare is not about how cool your product or how masses genuinely impressed ot that it the strongest on the market. It's about how much people talk (and think) about your brand. And as long as you keep people busy, you'll win. And logo itself, and then aftershocks due to breaking records, created large enough wave of brand recognition for Sony to not bother with anything for quite some time.
 
Since it seems like a lot people are looking at how PS4 was announced last gen and comparing that to a potential PS5 reveal, I thought I'd jump in.

The PlayStation Meeting 2013 was announced January 31st, 2013. On that same day, they put up the PS Meeting 2013 website:

The PlayStation Meeting 2013 website also had a "sign up" for more details, like the PS5 website does. Now obviously these are somewhat different scenarios - the PS Meeting 2013 website does not say anything about being "not quite ready" and has a hard announcement date. But I think the point still stands that Sony would only put a website up where you can sign up for more info if the reveal is coming somewhat soon, like they did in 2013. In 2013, it was basically 20 days after the website was launched. So I would wager that we'll probably get more PS5 info within at least 1 month from when the website was put up, before GDC. I could see a late February or early March reveal.

I think it is definitely too late for any type of console redesign at this point, the only card they would play would be adjusting memory size (which that is even pushing it) and/or adjusting clock speeds, but other than that I think the specs are set in stone. I think the February announcement was good for the PS4, but I feel like that are trying to fine tune it this time around and they obviously don't want to be predictable, I think the info is coming soon but I just don't know when, they've updated their website with the PS5 page so that is a good sign I think, so if we don't hear anything this month I definitely see it happening in March (probably at GDC). Price-wise I don't know if the market pricing on components at this stage can affect anything (SSD cost, RAM cost, etc.) and being that they have probably negotiated most if not all of the pricing they should know what their BOM pretty much is at this point, so it is just coming down to how much of a loss are the wanting to take to be competitive at launch, which this is where the whole chess game comes in, neither side wants to have a PS3/Xbox360 or PS4/Xbox One pricing fiasco again, which I totally understand. Everyone likes to think it is a black and white issue, when really it isn't, there are a lot of things to take into account!

Exactly which points to either it isn't like rumors suggest or that MS really doesn't know what's under PS5'S good.

I think top secret or not that both do know what each specs are.

So I learn towards various ps5 prototype spec possiblites hence MS not saying XSX is the most powerful.

Yeah, the Kinect is what killed them. It is crazy that the APU on the launch PS4 was so much better but cost Sony $10 less than what Microsoft was paying for theirs, just shows Sony's buying/negotiating power! You want a real laugh, just be glad it wasn't like the PS3 days, the Cell and Blu-ray drive is what killed the PS3 at launch (granted these were pre-launch estimates, but they weren't far off)!

Some dude name jack of all controllers said that ps5 was only going launch with 1.5m units to be sold. I highly doubt it, but i can see it maybe happening with all the info we have gotten about things being Changed or pushed around. If sony is pushing high tfs im sure they (Ms also) are eating a good chunk of losses and would want to prevent that til the discounts kick in.

Edit: i looked on jacks Twitter and couldn't find it. But he does tweet alot and I didn't bother scrolling a whole bunch. Source came from that mbg? Youtuber

Hopefully they have enough to go around, but I plan to get in my pre-order ASAP just in case once they open up!
 
With regards to Dev kits vs retail, the Xbox One X had 4 more Cu's (.6tflop), 12 more gigs of Ram (24gigs total),
I would assume the PS would be similar.

Just because Sony are not releasing info on your terms doesn't mean they don't have a strategy.

The main pieces of the PS5 rollout roadmap/strategy were likely finalized in late 2018/early 2019, including those articles and logo reveal.

If Sony released a State of Play (which they could do at any point) with a few PS5 trailers we'd have as much info as PS4 up through June 2013.
