That being Tesla V100.
Being 70% faster in a specific data centre workload compared to Volta GV100, is not even close to be the same thing as being 70% faster in gaming than Turing TU102.

They cant compete with Sony in hardware sales, they know this. They rather deal with unknowns and move metrics as not to seem like thy are losing. That is a fact. Which is basically what Phil has been doing for close to two years now. The fact that they refuse to give up the tflops number or even hint at it like MS has doesnt instill confidence. Also letting Phil set the narrative of having the most powerful console for two years? if there was no truth to it, why wouldnt they come out and set the record straight?

Sony still holds massive advantage in mindshare over MS.
So they have no urge to show anything to "prove" anything, to calm down anxious forum dwellers etc, it's MS field to try to impress early, show their confidence etc to try to gain at least some ground, until king of the hill is away for other business. Brad Sams tweeted about rating some XSEX pic 12 out of 9 tflops. these insiders seem super confident and while it could be because they had access to github leaks before the rest of us, it's also possible that MS caught Sony off guard and Sony has no clue how to respond.

the problem is that these insiders are all from the MS camp and have proven completely unreliable for any Sony info

Either a Sony isn't talking because they are a lot weaker, or because they want to shock everyone with a more powerful console after MS had set the narrative of being most powerful

No one out in the wider world really knows what CES is. Or E3 for that matter!

But the fact is the PS5 logo reveal was the first next-gen news to hit mainstream press & media.

Actually it wasn't; the XSX reveal at the TGAs was. Network television event, lots of well-known actors/actresses/directors present, pretty mainstream given its status. That would fit the criteria for mainstream press & media imo.

But in reality, it's not a guarantee metric to use to measure how things will play out with the systems once they actually launch. PS brand is at least 2x Xbox and Nintendo globally, going by system sales this gen, so wouldn't be assumed that they'd get a lot of responses for putting the first bit of anything PS5-related out on social media officially? By that metric it's not a Herculean accomplishment.

That said I'm glad they did post something out there with PS5. It would be nice if they shared more because for a person like myself the silence is troublesome (knowing all the stuff going on that the average consumer wouldn't bother paying attention to), or at the very least annoying. I just don't get the obsession with some people who use things like social media tweets/shares/etc. in an e-dick measuring contest xD.
