Who was the person that bet PS5 would be revealed before we reach 1000 pages?

You should probably start to worry about now lol

If y'all could, you know, STFU a little...😅

how is this shit not leaked by now?

There has to be thousands of devs out there with devkits.
it has, we just don't know which one is real . Cause what leakers do they write the specs but on purpose they put few stuff very wrong so it can not be traced back to them so we tend to dismiss them immediately because of the wrong lines . So we have seen ps5 specs from one of the leaks . We just don't know which one it is . Haha

Haha, as said time and time again, you can have the highest TF, fastest ram, fastest ssd and the best RT. But you need to remember to have all this, you'll be looking at something close to £\$ 699.

People seem to forget that with every console release, we are all pretty much disappointed in the specs because they really are dog shit - but credit where credits due, MS and Sony do make the best of what they have and make some amazing looking games for the shit tech we have.

But this is the first generation where we'll actually have some shit hot tech inside the consoles. The bridge between pc and console has never been closer. But you best believe that this will come at a price. Even if the ps5 was 9.2tf, you can forget £/$ 350-399 price tags. These will be premium consoles with a premium price tags.
The first generation? How old are you? For a long time in the past consoles have had hardware better than PCs or equal, this generation is more an exception than a rule so far.

I never understood this placing very wrong info among a leak so they can't be traced. Makes zero sense.

me and 2 years that I hope ps5 mounts hbm2 this is a bargain. and I also say that it will mount 3 banks of 8 gb ram hbm2 between 600 -800 GBs bandwidth

Now that we are aware of the Corona Virus outbreak in China, perhaps these companies already monitored or had reports of what had been happening since December or January. Sony's silence may come from the fact that today, it is impossible to promise 13 million ps5 for the Christmas season + the continued supply of ps4, and deliver all.
If you think about the scope, microsoft probably has a smaller market, around 5 to 6 million to serve because it will focus on the USA and UK and what remains will go to the globe, Sony has to supply a hungry North America, a Thirsty Europe, a little bit of Japan that still likes consoles and several countries around the globe.
Taking all this into account, if the epidemic is not controlled quickly, microsoft will suffer less impact for the launch, Sony, will suffer a high impact.

Because a) breaking the NDA and have it backtrack to you will ruin you for life (not only financially, where you are looking at millions of damages, but also good luck finding a job in the industry again after you leaked confidential stuff) and b) most devs don't care. They either develop exclusively for one platform, in which case they only know those specs, or they are creating a multiplatform game and could not care less which platform will be the more powerful, because the common denominator influences all their design decisions.

It's also not as if the console just tells you "hey, I have x TF available to you". Most of the time if a manufacturer doesn't say the number directly we need pictures of the APU to find out how fast it actually is. But really most of it is down to a): Why would you be willing to risk that for anonymous internet fame? Or you can ask by extension: Why would you be willing to risk that so that somebody else gets anonymous internet fame?

They were just reporting the Pastebin from January (4 TF Lockhart, 8 TF PS5, 12 TF Anaconda).
No it was a full spec sheet only about xbox . If you don't know what we r talking about them please don't mislead others . I will find it for you . The whole article was only about xbox and full spec sheet

I'm sorry if my speculation doesn't meet your standards. It's the Sony camp that's acting like SSD is the end all be all of why the PS5 is better than the PS4.

I've got all my Xbox One X games on an SSD. The difference is that the games aren't optimized for SSD-Only situations like exclusive PS5 titles will be.

I'm figuring with the crossgen MS attitude that we won't have these same ground up optimizations.

Please don't mock me for observations, guesses or speculations without backing up why you feel that my guess is incorrect.

If the PS5 has an SSD and the SX didn't, then i could understand it being a big feature.

The fact of the matter is however, both systems will have an SSD. Will one be faster? Yes. But should that matter? No.

I've been developing games for a long time. I know the ins and outs of memory management, compression and the like. I know the benefits of an SSD, because I'm not stupid (own one and develop on one) However, I also know that if you stack one SSD up against another you run into diminishing returns, with a a few caveats.

See, the problem people have is they are thinking too basic. If SSD A runs at 8gb/s and SSD B runs at 16gb/s, then surely it will be twice as fast, right? Wrong. See, there are a LOT of factors that go into how this all works, from memory accessing speeds, controller quality, even down to the things people don't even think about such as compression method used and texture format, and what package the files are stored in, these things matter. But it still doesn't mean you will get double speed, because you need to be able to even hit those peaks effectively, and in the right way.

But even THEN, people think this means twice the speed. Yes, Sonys SSD is good, no doubt, but so will be the SX one. You're not pitting an SSD up against a HDD here. If both systems are designed around an SSD then you will get effective data random access speeds, and in these cases, you will be looking at a minimal increase in load. In real world estimates, using my 8gb/16gb speed, you would be able to load 16gb in a sec vs 8gb in a sec. but in effective performance, it will be much lower, let's say 10gb vs 6gb.

But even THEN, you have to have the data to load. The largest data subset we can entertain is an uncompressed 150gb game. AT THE MOMENT. The SSD speed will only be part of this equation, because you will need a fast CPU to decompress this data to load into memory, otherwise you will hit a bottle neck. Plus your main memory and it's speed, plus how it works with your other parts. So again, you're not getting that effective max performance.

In short, in real world terminology, there is nothing the PS5 can do the SX can't do. Nothing. Even streaming on data while playing, the SX SDD will be totally fine, and you won't be seeing some random pauses or issues, lol. People really believe they will be seeing massive pauses or texture steaming issues haha... No. Not unless we suddenly have massive games with unique texture everywhere, but even then you will likely see them switch to a cpu driven compute process.

Another area people bring up is spiderman, how it loaded so fast as a demo for PS5. Of course. The way Spider-Man's engine works is to load the game and then stream in all assets at a higher quality based of your fov culling. In other words load the game with lowest mips and LODs, and then load in higher quality assets based on proximity to the camera. This is quite a standard way of doing it, but it is really quick already. Of course the PS5 demo will load things fast here, of course! That exact same thing would happen on an SX for this game. There isn't enough unique large assets to load for this to be an issue. In fact, no game today is large enough to even make the SX theoretical SSD have any issue. Open world games like Spiderman are designed to work so that you can traverse the open world quickly and not see too many issues while doing so. There's a massive reason this game was chosen.

So... Now I've covered ingame streaming of assets and how both systems will be totally fine except for a few fringe cases, let's move onto the big one...

Loading.

Well, that depends on the engine used and the compression/format/sizes/packages used. A game like COD for example will take a while to load even on PS5, due to the way it's BSP is created. But let's use the best example we can, and say that a game on PS5 loads in 2 seconds. Well, for SX, it would be around 1.0-1.5 seconds, because those upper peaks will never be reached on real world situations.

So... this is ALL just SSD talk. But I'll say it again... are people really saying that the PS5 SSD makes it next gen, and the SX doesn't? You will still get games taking a while to load, on both systems. You will get games loading instantly or near instantly on both systems. And neither system will run into any streaming or caching issues. You're essentially saying loading a game on a two seconds is slow as fuck, because the other system does it in a little over one.

So what the hell are you people on about? 🤣 I realise that the SX has potentially faster speeds in other areas so you need to find any way you can to close the gap. The other day it was the audio (which I've also been working with for years and laughed at). Hell I've been working with ray tracing for a while, and understand the pros and cons of this, and why after the initial batch of in your face shit, it will be pushed aside for more subtle, but faster, interactions.

The fact is, and I don't care if this pisses people off... as of right now, both systems look to be on par, with a tiny, slight, will never ever be seen edge to the SX. AT THE MOMENT. But this changes on the damn day. No one system is better than the other "on the whole", while each may be better at certain things, but not to a large degree.

This will be the closest you will have ever seen in terms of performance, and it really does come down to just picking what system you like. That's all. There is no mandate for games to have to work on older consoles, there is no "well the SX is just Xbox one upscaled" bollocks. What one console can do, the other can do, close enough, that nobody will be able to tell.

So just pick which one you want and roll with it. It looks that most matter what system you pick, it will be great. Its a good thing, to anybody except die hard fanboys. We ALL win, and that's damn good.

13 million PS5 for holiday? LOL. You are looking at 5 million in a best case scenario. Sony delivered five million consoles worldwide in the first four months of PS4.

Are those peaks even achievable in actual real life scenarios? My 3 GB/s SSD reaches around 0.5 GB at best when I am copying a large file. I don't see how consoles would get around that, even with optimized controllers they are still built to grab a couple of small files (streaming textures and objects) and the read speed will be much slower than their theoretical maximum.

Yea and even memory set up and cpu were given with ssd speed . Do you remember the name of the French site ?
Jeuxvideo.com
They were just reporting the Pastebin from January (4 TF Lockhart, 8 TF PS5, 12 TF Anaconda).

I dont know, i dont follow that website, they might have insiders in Ubisoft or something since... french

No man . A French gaming website reported on it first in February 2019 . This one appeared later after that .

Other way around I believe.

So you are saying the French website source is that forum post ?

saw your edit then reddit post came mid Jan ? Then yea they could have used that .

No, it's not really likely. Possible sure, but in a real world example, no, not really. You are essentially loading so much in one go you would need a stupidly fast CPU to even close to it being effective, and even then, you can't just give that much processing power to loading assets in and out of memory while playing a game. Loading sure, but not in normal gameplay.

People tend to not think of these things. They just see 100 is bigger than 50, so it must be twice as good. That's not this this works.

Edit: this will come down to war of words for both consoles. Both will be going crazy about how amazing X is, while the ther goes crazy about how amazing Y is. Fanboys the world over will be fighting in playgrounds and forums about how horseshit the Xbox is because it's SSD is slower, or the PS5 is shit because it doesn't have as good a cpu, or whatever. The fact is, both will be closer than ever before, and it's fantastic.

I'm saying the Jeuxvideo post I linked to hyperlinks to that reddit post (on January 28th 2019).
Gotcha . It wasn't jeuxvideo but another French site but if that reddit post was before them they all very well could have used that as base . But it's accurate for ms stuff hence I feel it's from ms source and they mention 8tf 399 for ps5 which according to Albert penello was what "they believed at MS" Sony would land .

Man even timdog is more fun to read than you, constantly repeating Ps5 as 8-9 TF on every page., every minute of every day. Give it a rest.

Get some air, and sorry to dis timdog, at least he is amusing.

If Ps5 is 36 CU it will be 8 TF and under 1.8 and targeting price if Sony choose to do that. Or its allot more CU and disabled cores for the BC.
D darkinstinct listen you this guy, please. It's becoming very tiresome to read constant negativity. Just post from your own positive perspective instead of trying to take other viewpoints down.

I mean an MS person knowing for sure the specs/price of PS5 is unlikely (sure they could guesstimate) but even if spot on others have said a 8TF system was likely the plan for 2019 and they changed in 2017 so it could be old info anyway. Similar now with Github info.

It could go either way and Sony's continued silence and lack of reveal is killing us....!

Jim said that they intend to make the transition faster and smoother from ps4 to ps5 and this is only possible with high availability and price.

Ray tracing is more than just reflections guys, but even then, expect games to use them on EVERYTHING just because they can... And then it will, thank god, fade off and be used more sparingly and when needed.

It's certainly going to be this gens bloom, that's for sure 🤣

Personally, I'm not a fan of the reflections because nobody yet has used them as they should be. But for lightning, it can be gorgeous... again, if done right.

Except for where it is not accurate. That's what I mean with "you can't select parts of leaks that fit your narrative and ignore the ones that don't". Case in point: That devkit rollout that was leaked for April never happened until November. And Bleeding Edge turned out to be a March 2020 title and not a launch title. So what the leaker here probably did was to just put together a list of all info that was available at that time, added some educated guesses and finished it up with a bunch of dev studios that were either already connected to Microsoft (Asobo, Flight Simulator) or had a history of being starved for money. And then you just see what sticks. And people will be willing to forget that half of it is BS if the other half turns out to be correct.

Logic dictates that a person that would know all that is said in that leak must be really high up at Microsoft. All the specs, all the launch titles, all the studios they are currently contemplating of buying? That leaves maybe Phil Spencer, Greenberg and Booty. Do you believe those people would just spill the beans in a Pastebin/Reddit leak? Worse, do you believe that any person with such an insight into Microsoft does not only know the launch prices of Xboxes but also of PS5 (which the knowledge we now have thanks to Sony that they can't talk about pricing because they are competing)? And that's why this leak ultimately is not credible. Too much information.

The bolded is the great takeaway here from what we know so far with leaks if they are to be believed from reputable sources.

People are missing the forest through the trees just so they can act doofy, still 7+ years later for a meaningless and quite honestly misplaced feeling of "pride" that their worldly consumer product of choice has a number a smidge higher that won't translate into any dispensable real world results.

That's not what was said.

Realtalk, do you guys care about Ray Tracing more than FPS? I've watched so many RT On/Off comparison videos and while RT is "neat", it seems like such a waste unless 60 FPS at a minimum is the focus before even messing with RT sliders. I'd still rather have unlocked FPS than RT at all in most scenarios with 120Hz input displays Surely being readily available at the time that PS5/XSX hit our living rooms.

RT causes such a significant & gigantic performance hit that it would be a crying shame if it was the focus of this new generation. I feel like the shadows are cool and puddle reflections look nice, but do you honestly want 30% (plus or minus 5%) of your new console's power going towards it? I for one absolutely do not. What a waste of money of a new console.

Like it or not more consumer TVs with 120Hz input will be here and the difference will be NIGHT AND DAY if utilized compared to some mesmerizing puddle reflections that you only notice in non-action slow moving walking simulators or shadows that nearly resemble black crush on current displays.

In advance to those that will say "Who will have a 4K 120Hz display?! That technology is years off before adoption!11111"

People said the same thing about 1080p being absolutely pointless compared to 720p. People said that gaming in 4K wouldn't be noticeable unless you sit with your nose a few feet from the TV (People say this every new resolution generation and haven't been correct once yet).

Realistically speaking we also all know darn well that these new consoles will NOT have 8K gaming at anything near 60fps if they have 8K gaming *at all* besides a few small lower quality indie titles. But, one really AMAZING advantage of this new generation can be higher FPS 4K gaming than we already get on the Xbox One X, and that's way way way cooler than Ray Tracing will ever be at currently assumed next-gen console specs.

If you're going to argue that nobody will have those TVs, climb back in your cave like your ilk do every generation of display advancements. Stop spending your money on new console technologies if you're afraid of new TV technologies each gen too. Like it or not, they go hand in hand.

It's true that the benefits of Ray Tracing will be noticeable on older current tech. That's fine for launch titles, but in 3 years everyone will be singing a different tune about 120Hz displays and where they wish gaming was once even non-enthusiasts have the option in their low budget TVs.

Pretty Puddles or higher FPS? I can already see the gamers of the future begging for higher FPS without knowing that it could have all been capable if they didn't want those darn tree reflections in puddles that wouldn't have existed in the first place unless devs were trying to show off the new and exciting.... tree reflections in puddles.

I'm not saying that Ray Tracing is bad. It's cool, but it's really a waste for what it offers compared to what it potentially is taking away.

If next gen gives me the choice between 4K/60 without raytracing and 1440p/60 with raytracing, I will turn it off in a heartbeat. Remember Prey? Where everything was shiny and waxlike because of Normal Maps? It's going to take at least two more years before raytracing gets actually used in games and not abused for cheap effects. But I do think the same about 120 Hz. I am just going by the average console buyer, that gets the cheapest 4K TV from Amazon just so they have a 4K TV. They don't care about 120 Hz or input lag or HDR - and that's who consoles are built for. Will we see crossgen games taking advantage of the additional power and put it towards 120 fps modes? Of course we will. But any game that is built for next gen consoles only will run at the same 30 to 60 fps as every generation before. There are much more interesting ways to use the additional CPU power. Like better game AI. More characters on screen. Plus you need more CPU speed to be able to use those SSDs. Better physics. There's a ton of stuff that you rather put into your game for the 95 % average users than to do 120 Hz support for the 5 % that can actually use it.

I have played at 120 Hz before (I am old, I know CRTs). It's great. But it's not a game changer (it is if you are only used to LCDs, yes, but in reality LCDs are only now reaching the levels we had for decades in CRTs). And you can't market it. You can put out screenshots with more NPCs, you can't put out screenshots (or even videos) with more fps. Plus there are still people that pretend to not even see a difference between 30 and 60 fps. Those are the realities of console gaming, and that's why 120 Hz won't gain traction.

Well, those insiders have said that since E3. Where Reiner reported that he heard that at that point PS5 was faster than Xbox. And that's true, because Xbox devkits didn't exist back then, they only launched in November. So while PS5 was using Ariel and Oberon devkits at that point, Microsoft was at best still using PCs with target specs. And surprise, the best Navi based GPU available at that time was

5600 XT: 36 CU, 1.75 GHz, 8 Teraflop
vs.
Ariel: 36 CU, 1.8 GHz, 8.3 Teraflop
vs.
Oberon: 36 CU, 2 GHz, 9.2 Teraflop

The more powerful 5700 XT didn't arrive until a month after E3.

Damn, suddenly Sony is in that exact same ballpark that Reiner reported. Except he didn't account for the fact that actual XSX devkits were not out yet.

Later "insiders" then just went with what Reiner reported to pretend to be credible. Or simply were fed information from back then, but they don't necessarily have newer information just because they say it later.

im thinking the 36cus is the lite/lockhart version.

Believable, if not a little too far in one direction. Sounds hot as well. That would be roughly tf ball park I would expect and would give reason to a higher tf performing SX being more on par with it based on design.

But still, grains of salt.

I do still see this being more or less the ballpark we are going to see, roughly a 2tf difference but tech differences making each "on par" when it comes down to it.

Interesting.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but stadia is effectively a pc, on a custom Linux based os, is it not?

Essentially the headroom for improvement is none existent, based on the spec. A 5tf stadia would perform the exact way a 5tf pc would perform, but a custom built 5tf console would beat it night and day.

In short, even if PS5 was the old 9tf rumour, I would still beat it performance/visuals wise without contest.

No is not.

MS message is all over the place again... Lockhart, crossgen for two years, google and amazon being the real competition...

I get it MS is trying to create a new market.. but the problem is wile they wonder away SONY will do is thing and if they don't disappoint offering a bad console they will again crush MS in the traditional games market.. and further cement their position...

After all these years MS really don't understand games traditional marked...
It's not all over the place though. Cross-gen for a year or two for first party. That's pretty solid messaging. Third party is not required to do this and anyone even considering that made up theory would have to have a motive behind it, as nowhere has that message been delivered.
