Well i'm a PC gamer so. If i had my choice, both consoles would be identicle, simply because i dont know if i can go through another gen of console warring on here and elsewhere to be honest.
Its just these 'insiders' annoy me, and if the AMD test things ended up true, it would show that they were full of shit, which most of them are. Thats why i said 'ONLY for that reason'

I am one of the posters who talked shit about you on every chance I got, but I'm more than happy to apologise and eat crow if you end up being the real mcCoy (which is still up in the air).

Now, the all ps games bc has been tweeted and talked about in the past, so you're either verifying the info, or riding on someone else's info once more, hoping they'll end up true. We'll see.

Finally, yes, despite full ps3 bc, I still want a ds remake.

Can anybody throw light on attempts in the industry, to reduce the cost of making games. (reusing the code, software frameworks, AI)

Cheaper games -> sustainable gaming industry -> no incentive for console makers to make exclusives.

You are more than free to not take part in all this and take your PC master race rhetoric and this never ending need to downplay consoles (coff, "we are getting 1080 Ti GPUs") elsewhere.

People enjoy the start of a new generation because, for milions and milions, consoles are simply a better value proposition.

And am I right in saying their are no rdna 2 cards on the market yet? So targeting 12tf v 12tf is fine for now(assuming both are being made on pc), but once these new cards are released the Xbox could pull ahead, by maybe quite a bit?

Or again, has this all been cleared up and I'm way behind.
 
I never expected more than 11 Tflops for next-gen consoles, so the confirmation of XSX being 12Tflops RDNA2 has been quite pleasant,.

Waiting for Sony to show what they've got.
 
I still dont think specs matter to 90% of the console market, but Sony do need to at least reveal the console soon. And preferably the price at 400 or so.

Just from a power consumption point of view, Sony/ms would have to do something different unless they do a 8tf box.

I was honestly expecting a GPU on par with a Vega 64 , just based on the rate of improvement from the PS4 to the pro to the 1x, I was not expecting Navi to be such a big leap.

While the quality of the games, services, price + graphics are real things which do really matter to consumers, when the difference s are small, the smaller differences help shape the conversation.

The PS4 did have higher resolution then the X1, and while some would genuinely appreciate this, most people would just think the PS4 is better because of what they read, but they don't actually really care about 720/900p Vs 900/1080p. However the Xbox one had a lot more problems.

This upcoming gen they will be a lot more even, and it's going to come down to game and services preference.

This is how I think it will go next gen

Power:
both very similar a non issue

Price:
ms will have an advantage here if Lockhart is a thing

Games:
overall both are even here, Sony will probably have a better looking early gen exclusive, but ms will have better variety and halo infinite, Forza 8 will look no slouch on series X

Marketing:
both even here, Microsoft have been bold and clear so far and they will continue to be, the marketing at Xbox are taking a different approach this time round as confirmed by phil Spencer in a recent podcast. Sony will continue there straight to point gamer focused messaging, the difference being this time is that so are Xbox.

Services
If nothing changes gamepass will continue to be the better service, xcloud and ps now will be about on par xcloud may have a slight advantage by being on more devices.

Could be the case, as some people buy Nintendos old slow spec low quality hardware (wii / switch) like nuts.

Also I really doubt that "ps4 gamer" would turn into "xbox gamer" just because of specs.

I would divide gamers into groups:

FIFA-gamers, people whom buy stupid yearly sports game, smash their controllers because of anger management issues and rarely buy other games = this group probably doesnt care about which system they have, unless their friends have only one of the systems

nintendo-casual-gamers, people whom buy console to play casually, for kids etc. aka dont care about specs, good modern games or graphics. Probably just buy the cheapest option

core-gamers, people whom have been gaming for many gens, or are more serious gamer hobbyists. they probably have one system that they like, and stick to it because of brand loyalty, game series and feelings.

But I disagree that Sony needs to reveal anything soon(to not to lose remarkable amount of customers to MS).

They are just too strong as a brand, much stronger than Nintendo imo. and Xbox brand is just much weaker around the world.

Fifa-gamers and casuals dont pre-order consoles = cant lose them

core-gamers mainly stick with the brand they already have = no worries

I have never ever met a gamer that have changed from playstation to xbox, but some that have changed from xbox to playstation.

And current gen Sony dominance is kind of a hint to what expect from next gen, Sony cant fuck things up so badly (tvtvtv) that they could fail. MS fails because they are too america focused, adding features that rest of the world doesnt care about.

I would bet that after Sony finally reaveals PS5, it will be like killing a cockroach with a nuke.

Same applies to MS fanboys though. In the "glory days" of the 360, specs mattered the most, especially that raw GPU power. When the X1 came out, and before the X1X, it wasn't that important anymore. Then the X1X was announced and they were all about "True 4K".

And then when OneX came out, power wasnt what mattered anymore, and only games did. 900p to 1080p was a huge issue, but 1440p to 1800p/4k was not a problem. This could go around in circles forether. It will be the same next gen, and then mid gen refreshes come, and it will start all over again. Thats why i said i hoped both consoles were identicle in power.
 
So let's see where we stand. At this point when we factor in the info provided by various insiders it seems evident that the PS5 will be somewhere between 11 and 13 TF now that we know the figure of the XSX. Beyond that we still have the mystery of the RAM in the PS5, and I'm still thinking HBM2 has a decent chance of making an appearance there. RAM quantity is still another question mark for both boxes. The SSD speeds are still a mystery for both machines. The CPUs will probably be the same, give or take some minor clock differences. We'll have to see how the RT solutions differ, obviously there will be some differences since MS are using hardware accelerated Direct X RT.

We know from Jim Ryan that there are other big, unannounced things, wonder what they could be. My guesses...

HBM RAM
Full BC with the entire PS family
Remastering engine for the above full BC
ReRAM (never give up hope!)
AI assistant
You can daisy chain multiple PS5's for ULTIMATE POWER!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

They don't even have to be identical (what are the odds), but if they are close enough that nobody gets shafted in third party games, it would definitely calm things down a bit. I agree.

Unless the difference is huge power wise, like 3+tf, i dont really think power will play as big as it did this gen. Both consoles should be powerful enough to hit 4k, and should be powerful enougth to lockdown 30fps in most games. 60fps games may show a slight difference with possibly one console dropping into the high 50's more than the other, but i think the majority of next gen games will still be 30fps anyway.
Its just if both were identicle power wise, at least that would be one area of console warring that would be made redundant, and people could war about the games themselves, which is the most important thing.
 


This is probably Microsoft's "used games" moment when Sony end up asking for an upgrade fee.

How Microsoft has changed from the first XB1 always online console.
