I'm afraid this is the natural consequence of over-reliance on a story to sell your game, instead of fun gameplay. If the same thing happened when Naughty Dog made Jak and Daxter there would be no problem.

The issue with story-centric games is that once people know the story, that's it. There's no replayability except for achievements. No one is out here buying Last of Us for the gameplay.

It's a bit funny to see such a game robbed of what little value it had, having its entire (terrible) story revealed months before launch.

Yup.

That's the nature of story driven narratives. If the plot gets spoiled, it's a trainwreck.

Pretty sure nobody cares what the plot line is for sports, racing, fighting, puzzle, turn based and RTS strategy, shooters, loot based games, MMO, card/deck based games etc....

In fact, most other genres don't even have a story. If there is a plot, it's start out as level one scrub, and kill king bad dude. The end.

Exactly. And from what I hear, the story isn't any good this time around either. Devs need to strive for a good mix of gameplay and story.

What an impartial take 😂

Speaking for yourself there, I'm afraid.

I often replay Uncharted and Last of Us.

Sucks that some dipshit had to try and ruin a lot of people's hard work. It's ok I ant reading shit and gonna wait to experience the game as intended.

I'm sorry for the team and the fans, but that's what happens if games are too story focused. Spoiler for Tomb Raider, Gears of War, Fallout or GTA? Sucks, but those games are gameplay focused so it doesn't matter that much.

I will get the game on sale as I originally intended. I wasnt into the first game and didnt like the story there either.

I'm still in down the line for AAA gory stealth kills. Hopefully the gameplay is better. I actually enjoyed the gameplay in Uncharted 4 when they took the reigns off.

It's a very shallow perspective about TLOU( part 1 atleast). The gameplay matched the amazing story.

I really liked tlou Gameplay.

Can you confirm if the last leak about the homophobic cult is true? No spoils please just yes or not.

This game deserves a deep deep sale or a psnow release.

I aint paying for some lesbo woke revenge feminist bullshit even if the game is excellent.

Sony first parties never dissapointed me and fuck i played and finished both getaways but this, this is a dissaster.

"Incredibly difficult days"? Ar they talking about the game or about the Covid?

Because no, they've not been incredibly difficult for me.

And *lol* at them asking not to share and spoil. Like that would have any effect.

having not been spoiled on most of the plot details, why have people turned so sour on the game? It's really hard to judge a story for something just on reading bullet points for it. It's the execution that matters.
Why you do this? The fools are going to come and spoil everything, you know that. Most of these guys will never, or had zero interest in playing TLOU. I'm a huge fan of the property and the plot and bold direction ND has taken is really brave and exciting. I'm more interested in experiencing it for myself in light of the leaks.

Speak for yourself. I really enjoyed tlou's gameplay (replayed it twice when remastered came out), and if it involves playing as a lesbian destroying a homophobic cult in a post-apocalypse setting, all the better. Are people really so edgelordy that they would refuse to buy a game if one of the theme's of the game is destroying a homophobic cult post-apocalyptic SJW-style? If so, that's super fucking funny and makes me cringe. Bet those kinds of people are super fun to chill with. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

lol Dream on, snowflake. The pearl clutchers around here in no way represent the mass market.
You may want to take a trip to the Last of Us subreddit man. Everyone there who's seen the spoilers, all actual fans, are saying the same. I've seen nothing but bad impressions. Something got pretty fucked up story wise.

One solution is to have an open story, where the player's choices and actions shape how the story unfolds. It is a game, not a movie, after all.

I replayed the last of us several times... obviously the story didnt change, yet i continue to enjoy the experience..

and as far as leaks go, you cant just take a few points out of context and expect to have a full understanding of the story... thats just not how it works.

Ah yes. I'm sure all the actual "fans" have suddenly come crawling out of the woodwork to show their "concern" about the game. I bet the word "woke" shows up a lot :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Im getting it for the gameplay, looks more fresh than the last one. Also a bug things I loved about the first one was the gunplay felt really great with the weight to the system the recoil and the animations

Nah. Linear exploration, piss poor AI, laughably bad stealth segments, etc. It was a chore to play through.

Calling it a chore is a bit more flavorful than I'd call it lol but TLOU and Uncharted do not feature engaging gameplay. You play them for the experience, the story, the graphics, the animation, these things. Obviously some people will still enjoy it because it's not aggressively bad, but I really think it's too bad ND has been stuck doing this shallow gameplay design for over 15 years now. Maybe if this game doesn't drop to such unanimous praise it will lead to some change.

I'm not talking about the random posts man. I'm talking about the highly upvoted opinions on the fan subreddit. The place on the internet with the highest concentration of TLoU fans. The same subreddit that has been downvoting the shit out of conservative/sexist opinions since the first game. And no, I didn't see the word woke.

What are you talking about? Do people only buy games day one? What about everyone that bought TLoU on PS4?
