Yep. 9 zen2 cores equivalent for I/o on PS5 to push that ssd data into ram and apply decompression. All this is done by the cpu on the pc today, I'm still trying to contemplate what this all means for pc.
Actually equivalent of 11 zen 2 cores in the io complex . 9 zen2 cores are just the kraken decompressor. And 2 zen 2 cores for the other blocks in io complex brining the total to 11.

I do, Jaguar is a crap CPU, Zen2 will be minimum 8 x more powerful.

Number of enemies, density, animations, Physics. Tired of the same old 5 enemies spawn and attack with same animations ? Have you never noticed. Ps5 / XSX that is all gone if true next gen, who cares about zooming in on the blade of grass shadow in the distance.
I agree, but number of enemies and density is already scaleable. I'm not sure if the diversity of animations has anything to do with the CPU, that's just the time the developer wishes to take in creating them. Physics on the other hand I can see the issue, but then again in case of first party games I'm pretty sure they just develop different versions of that aspect for different consoles. They did it in the past, so why not now? And that's also part of the whole Smart Delivery solution, get the right content of a game on the right system.

On PC you may tolerate bigger installs since people can afford bigger disk drives and they can afford more RAM (16-32 GB + 6-8 GB on the GPU is not unheard of for gaming rigs) to cover the lack of I/O. CPU's and GPU's can also hit higher clocks and dedicate more cores to I/O as they have much larger power consumption headroom.

Still, expect minimum PC requirements to grow quite a bit from where they are now.

Diversity of animation, animation selection, and animation blending does have a CPU impact. Smart delivery does a lot, but does not make supporting and maxing different HW configs out cheaper or even much easier.

We want > 1440p60 reconstructed to 4K, but much better enemies and enimations and density. Last gen please die now.

Whats different about his gen ?

not sure i take number of enemies in a lot of genre.(but a take everything else)
Imo most games combat system shine best in one on one combat and the more enemies there is the more the flaws/limits become visible.

Alright, so last generation. Which game at launch was completely not possible on previous console? Because you keep making these claims but then at least give some examples. You will basically need exclusive PS5 games that look and play better than Halo Infinite and the next Forza at launch, to proof your point. Pretty sure that's not going to happen, but I'm willing to wait. We'll probably already know more in July.

Why are you talking about things you don't seem to understand?

your logic is just faulty.

(and you are asking for "examples" about future titles that havent even released yet, how do you think that anybody can give these to you? There isnt examples yet that even simpletons can understand, other than the SSD speed spiderman demo about streaming assests, so people must use their smarts to talk about what these examples will/could be, while waiting them to come out. And one example would be star citizen on PC, it wont work with HDDs)

you can't compare ps3 -> ps4 gen to ps4 -> ps5 gen.

Why? Because until this storage media were kind of in the same ball park between gens, aka still limiting factor for many design choices and computational power + ram amount were the bigger jumps.

Now we jump from slooooooooooow HDD to faaaaaaaaaaaaast SSD. And ram amount or gpu isnt that big of a leap compared to current gen, while being big. Not even cpu power between gens is nothing compared to the storage media speed jump.

(which allows things that havent been possible _ever_ before, if devs choose so).

And here you are claiming that next gen is just about prettier graphics and current gen can do all the same stuff with less pretty graphics.

It is not all about graphics.

If you believe that all next gen design choices are possible with current gen, and it is just about prettier graphics and SSD will not change anything, then you need to learn lot more.

These things arent "I feel so / my opinion is.." things, they are hard physical facts that wont change even if your precious feelings says otherwise.

Definitely not cheaper or easier. If you want to do this, it's going to cost you money. You need a specific team to "dumb down" your game towards the low-end system. But take for example 343i on Halo. That team is huge, the costs of that game will be huge, that's GTA level of game cost development. So indeed not every studio is able to do this, but this is about Microsoft's first party studios. They have those capabilities.

It is not all about graphics.

I agree that it's not all about graphics. The capabilities of the SSD lay mostly in creating more detailed and immersive worlds. So we don't get the 50 of the same books in every library (just an example), but actual 1000 of different possible books because now the input towards our GPU is much faster thanks to the SSD. So we can show more stuff. From close distance to long distance. I'm merely saying that in your opinion you believe developers aren't able to dumb that down for other lower end systems. In my opinion they can, which is based on Microsoft already doing something similar with Rise of the tomb raider. Why wouldn't they be able to do this?

It seems odd to write an entire post, starting with the premise that "You can't get examples. We have nothing we would be able to understand", only to end it with "It's about hard physical facts".

That said, I think everyone is excited for the SSDs. But let's temper our expectations, yes? Sure, we might see no load times, instantaneous travel and no more 'hide loading corridors'. But personally I don't think games will play vastly different. They will look a lot better and be more detailed, but that's about it.

With so much cash they should be throwing games at their customers like crazy. Instead, they contracted a dev studio which makes games with 67 average metacritic score and they won't have any exclusives for their own launching platform. It's just sad how incompetent they are.

People need to realize that "cash in hand" does not equal "let's throw cash in hand on Xbox division."

We don't know that much about the upcomming CPU generation. Maybe they have a dedicated decompression blog.

[...]
Decompression could be done on the GPU, but that also means that you will need a much faster GPU in comparison.

I think that will we see. You don't need a much faster CPU, if there would be a dedicated chip on the GPU board.

That reminds me... the game OsirisBlack was talking about some time ago hasn't been revealed yet, right? (assuming he wasn't trolling us, obviously)
I decided to forget about everything he said, trust was thrown out of the window. And he totally disappeared one day after Cerny's deep dive, that's not a good sign.

Something was just really strange about that whole deal.

I spoke with OsirisBlack OsirisBlack on several occasions in PMs and I really do believe he knows people.

I don't know if he was trolling us or the guys he was speaking to was trolling him.

Yeah it is weird. He/his info was demonstrably wrong about PS4K/NEO too, but most here let those facts slide. I guess we've all been too desperate for PS5 info.

I don't know if he was trolling us or the guys he was speaking to was trolling him.

Of course he was trolling. He typed an extremely detailed, rather long, essay about a vertical slice. Unless he has photographic memory, he made it all up. Or most of it, at least. What do I know.

Can't wait to see the game that OsirisBlack was talking about...

the lead graphics engine designer laughs at me for stopping every 30 seconds to just rotate the camera and look at the sights and listen to the sounds of their game world. "Everything in the game is PBR with multiple sources of volumetric lighting. All of the characters in this game are unique. You will never see the same character model more than once." As I am playing I realize how difficult this game is. I play several games competitively multiple genres (Smite,R6,SFV,CoD,BF,League) but I am getting my ass handed to me. I take the lead character out into a hallway and two enemies rush into the room shooting and moving in what appears to be a tactical pattern. "Is this fucking guy shooting at me while the other guy is trying to circle around to flank me?" he laughs again. "Yep, suppressive fire." As the enemy shoots at me I take note of the deformation of the geometry on display, chunks of cement give way revealing the metal pipes underneath that hold the structure together. Everything is based in reality including what happens when you shoot people or get shot. Its beautiful but it aint pretty.

I sit the controller down (I'm about to die again anyways) "The game is definitely running at 60fps" he shakes his head at me "No its running at 90fps locked. native 4k." dumb stare "On which machine?" he smiles "Both of them."

Two hours and several drinks later

When I asked about the performance of both consoles his response was "Both have the same target we will see if either of them hit that target. " I pushed further and asked what the target was and his response was simply."Above 12" That is not for the XseX or the PS5,from what I can gather internally both machines are targeting very high performance which lines up with hearing earlier that the machines would both be $499 with both companies Taking a loss.

Still waiting for the first guy who just reads Guerrilla and thinks HZD2. Which this is not! :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I did, my first read is there are 10 HZD developers......hype...

second throught was its all the people who use their DECIMA engine...hype intensifies...

Then it sunk in after 5 seconds....hype deflated...

I read somewhere that big IT companies like to sit on their cash instead of investing it. The article didn't say why, though.

That´s because most of their money is in tax havens and it costs much more money to bring that back.

EDIT: For you to read:

The comments made were fun to read all around. That's the extent to which we should be looking those claims/rumors as. No offense of course!

None taken.

Every single time I made a post about the Xsx being the more powerful system I would always think to myself you better hope what your being told is right or I would get run off here totally.

No matter how good of a source someone has you have to hope they are shooting straight with you to cover their own asses.

The games and crazy conjecture (GPUs in the power brick) are what make the "console wars" fun. LOL Once all the specs get released it's more just fanboy bickering, @ OsirisBlack OsirisBlack , should come back, the riddles were fun, and provided entertainment. People shouldn't be mad about that, IMO.

What do you means, that 9 zen2 cores is equivalent of PS5 texture decompression unit?

I don't buy people expecting that most games will be 60fps this gen.
It will obvious be 30fps.

That is console standard.

Anybody expecting 60fps across the board this new gen is setting for disapointment.
Devs will push graphical effects over framerate on consoles.

Why can't people understand this?

Speak for yourself. Not everyone is interested in a rental service full of indie to AA titles with a sprinkle of MS exclusives. I mean, it's fine for a dollar a month but when their promo ends, and it's inevitable it will end one day, a lot of those 10 million 1-dollar customers will cancel their subs. What will happen to the Xbox division then?

They should've started acquiring those studios 3-4 years ago. What the hell were they thinking? "Let's make new hardware and we'll think about software later?" If they hadn't said that themselves, I'd have thought that launching a console without exclusives is a story from someone's ass because no platform holder would do that. But here we are...

He's just parroting what he was told to think.

For your reference;

It is a good mix of AA and AAA games from MS and 3rd party publishers. Some are old(er) titles I admit, but still, your statement is not correct.

Re. studio acquisitions, they have started this (I am assuming) 3-4 years ago and finalised most around 2 years ago.

They can push all they want, games like COD and Fotnight sell gangbusters more and they are 60 FPS, I dont play 30 FPS shooters.

People dont buy based on what DF say .

I guess you're getting this info in the wrong way. Will be always up to devs no doubt, but that not mean devs can be more ambicious. Some devs put 30 because they want to push graphic tech to limits, but there are other devs that don't want 30, but they do due to the hardware limitation. That percent of devs are the focus for next gen.

Woops, my bad. Didn't mean you actually!

Every technical analysis I've heard or read has given the XSX the overall RAM advantage(Adored TV, DF) due to the 560GB/s memory bandwidth for the 10GB. The advantage with the PS5 seems to be that devs won't have to think about where they have to place assets in RAM.

Xbox has some 25% advantage in BW for 10GB but that was required otherwise having bigger gpu would not make much sense. I think they only want to access the 320bit bus. But once the 10GB limit is crossed the remaining 3.5GB is asymmetric and 33% slower than PS5. I think the difference between the two will not really matter unlike this gen which was pretty massive

Do you know that debt is also a form of capital? In todays economy debt is cheaper than having equity. You can get debt in form of credits basically for free or with a really low interest rate. The debt-equity ratio is important. Second: We don´t know in which country Microsofts equity is stored. For example their equity is stored outside of the US and they want to invest like $50 mil within the US, they have to bring either the $50 mil back to the US and have to pay 20-30% tax on that money or they just lend the money wihin the US with a interest rate of ~0-2%. So what would you do? Of course you would chose the debt which is really cheap and you can keep your equity.

And yes, this is how every company is doing that (yes, even Sony) and if I would be a shareholder I want them to do it the cheapest way!

Oh and btw Microsoft has a debt of $70 billion

and about debt with big companies

Not sure really about all of this. Doesn't make sense to me though, and about the debt that says $70B for MS and about $5.8B for Sony on some reports, and $114B for MS and $38B for Sony on another. Yet I read as well $11.8B for Sony and $87.1B. I don't understand what is the most accurate or what do each represent if they're any different. While both revenues being $110B for MS and $78B for Sony.

Personally, can't see a debt as a "good thing". And about that cash on hand, not sure why would Sony prefer to spend a lot more and have around $4.7B on hand (that's piling more year by year though) which results in image sensor, gaming, camera dominance. Along that, their TV branch has survived and now thriving compared to years back, they're pushing hard to hold on their smartphone business even though it's not doing great sales-wise. Even Sony Pictures was suffering, but latest successes with Spider-man and Jumanji restored and healed it and put it in a good position. Their headphones are gaining more attention as of late, although they've been the kings in the past, and with their new technologies and so they're pushing forward to regain their status, as they've recently sealed the fact that they're the best when it comes to noise cancelling.

If that explains anything to me that would simply justify why I love Sony for being passionate about their products and don't just let go when things don't workout.

It's interesting that so many events are being planned for July instead of June.

For June we have a rumored Sony showing and what else...that Guerrila Collective

Was wondering why there are lot of $$$ discussions on a gaming forum !

Sony was a great company, still does a lot of things good. But please, it is not in the same league as MS. Your hatred for Xbox brand, doesnt qualify you to bash MS. You are trying to compare a 75 billion dollar to a 1400 billion dollar business.

Here is the list of companies by their worth : https://www.dogsofthedow.com/largest-companies-by-market-cap.htm

Japan's economy has plateaued. Its all destiny BOSS, If Sony Sharp etc etc had not failed, Korea wouldnt be a developed nation today.
