Ok? We know that, maybe my post wasn't written properly, but that what's meant. Currently we use gigabytes for buffering stuff in comparison, for games that are considered a molecule compared to the UE5 demo demanding assets.

Well, yeah? And that's a direct quote by the way from the video description, you may post in his video if you like but any person would understand that it's about those massive assets streaming assistance from RAM, the rest is being done directly through i/o+SSD.

Considering how important this technique is for the PS4 Pro, Sony must have something more cutting edge for PS5. If they do, and if it's better, than why not have every PS5 game utilize it? Why waste GPU power? I guess the typical thought is: if the PS5 can do full 4K, than just have it do full 4K. Seems like a waste if there's a better solution. Still stuff about the PS5 we don't know about, so I wonder if something like this will come up.

The video's description and audio is blatantly wrong. I really don't understand why you both repeated it, and now are for some weird reason are acting like it's not blatantly wrong.

So you think other platforms will use 768MB for buffer of RAM to make the same results? Just wondering so we don't spend too much time pointing to my finger instead of the moon? I might not reply soon as I'll switch off the PC and go back into Ghost of Tsushima, so pardon me.

I didn't say any of that.

I said claiming that the UE5 demo only uses 768MB of RAM is a blatant falsehood. Because it is.

That podcast is just way wrong.. nothing more to it. The point of fast i/o is to fill as much RAM as possible painting the scene itself.. they quite literally seem to believe the entire demo actually only used 768MB by the way they are talking lol

FWIW I was wrong about that UE5 768mb number being for textures; it's for Nanite virtual geometry.

Would really like to know more about their techniques... how do 1 billion triangles fit in that memory footprint?

I think they are being sneaky with numbers and talking about source data and not what actually gets rendered but maybe I'm missing something.
 
You know what? I'm thinking Sony might get PS5 at $399 at launch. Seriously. The SSD solution probably isn't more expensive than MSs solution (it's actually more related to the co-processors, which I'd supposed aren't insanely expensive) than the Flash Memory itself. The APU on the other hand, having only 36CUs as opposed to 52 of the XSX makes it a whole lot easier to produce than the X. Yield numbers are probably much better for the PS5. Also, the fact they announced they're ramping up production makes me think exactly that: 1) that the yields are very good and 2) that the price is not too high that Sony can risk ordering more units than previously thought.

We'll see though.

But seeing as Sony's install base is 2-3 times larger than Microsoft's - and that Sony's games sell up towards 10-20M I guess they can justify giving their first-party studios a bigger budget. But I don't know. :)

I think it will depend on the studio....

Sucker punch for instance have over 200 people working there, then they need a building (rent/buy) and other overheads...electricity, education, tech and other expenses such as for traveling to tsushima and flying in experts on how to use swords etc etc....

So that would be an estimate of 50K on average for employees, multiplied by 200 staff..... 10 million a year for 6 years.... 60 million plus overheads and expenses.....

Probably 80 million or more for that studio.

ND would probably have a much higher budget due to more staff and more resources being used. Probably well over 100 million, maybe up to 150 or so.

But I guess we have to consider that development ramps up and down..... so some years it will be much less. They may have a year or two where they are just researching projects and presenting to Sony for approval.

I don't know why so many people look up to her, I guess they think if they are nice enough they'll get a kiss on the cheek before bed lol. MS has hardly put out any AAA games since it launched. It's mostly back catalog 3rd party X1 games with a ton of 360 games and some OG xbox games to fluff the numbers. Give it a few years and if MS puts out several great AAA games on a yearly basis it'll be something worth looking at but right now I have no interest in it at all, I paid my $2.00 to play Gears 5 and almost felt cheated because I hated the campaign lol.

If she wants to talk consumer friendly let's talk about MS being the first console maker to charge for online play which opened the door for others to do it, let's talk about taking away the option to do a 1 year XBLG sub for $60 and making you do a $180 GPU annual purchase instead, let's talk about needing a gold account to play free to play MP games. This isn't consumer friendly it's MS trying to get people to sign up for a monthly fee, they'll bring money in even if they put nothing new out etc.

Yeah, I don't know either.... she does have interesting people on her podcast video thing.... Troy Baker and some other devs that have insight.

However I find that she claims to be non biased but only ever seems to have xbox hooked up and got to voice some npc's in Gears 5 because she was such a big fan.

Anyway, you are absolutely on point, it's just a quantity over quality thing... make people think they are getting a great deal....but how much are you playing? and how much are you enjoying? Is your time being used for something you value?
Those are the questions I ask....

We're so used to AAA blockbuster titles, id even say we're pampered. That we forget there are Indie Studios, that never get exposure. I think Gamepass could help in this regard and seems pretty pro industry... Which might be the reason shes fairly vocal about it (besides being a good deal - for now)

It does make me wonder, if it would spawn more shovel ware...

Well, even checkerboarding was holding strong against DLSS 2.0, so a new version of it should match or surpass. The 5700XT is so inferior to 2080Ti, that's a major thing to consider. It should've been 2070 instead to make it more fair, but they were extremely close and most gamers won't bother with the extremely minor upgrade on 2080Ti.

I don't recommend any of them, none of them have insider knowledge they just scan forums for things to talk about and them make videos for views. It's a shame that so many people make a living doing this kind of thing.
 
I am 100% for Sony and MS pushing "faux K' using reconstruction of some sort over going native 4K if it means other visuals and performance get improved. If you look at games like Horizon ZD and Spider-Man on PS4 Pro and someone told you they were native 4K you'd absolutely believe it without question.

Sony can quite literally press a button and unleash a glimpse at the next God of War, Silent Hill, or new Naughty Dog IP onto the world at any moment lmao.

Props to that Eric marketing guy from Geoff's interview. He really knows what's up and sony really have a big W coming in here focusing on generations

It's quite possible in some capacity... I mean, she must have been paid for the voice work and appearing on their live-stream and who knows how much they paid for those....could include a bit of a bonus for creating good buzz for the next while.

I'd throw the bigger games towards the back of the year, and the smaller towards the front of it. Likewise, although I'd love to be surprised, I think that GT7 could go beyond the year. It kind of depends on whether it's a ground-up effort or if they're indeed building on the base they had with Sport (I hope it's the latter, because the demo was gorgeous, and so we can play it sooner).

Could be a pretty 🔥 first year, though, particularly when you bring the third party games in too. First impressions are lasting impressions, something consoles too often miss, so I could see them going for that.

Sackboy on release. TLOU II Factions on release. Destruction All Stars on release. Rest looks alright although I pray we get Demon Souls on release as well.
