I'm not trying to win anything, just don't bash Xbox for "not showing gameplay" when Sony didn't show gameplay either.

Glad I had my breakfast after seeing the event or I might ruin my keyboard and mouse.I've had some quality days with Ghost of Tsushima, one of my best games of all time. I really expected a mediocre show, but this isn't good enough to be mediocre.

I can’t wait to start GOT. I waited a month to start TLOU2 so I didn‘t end up divorced fighting over who got to play GOT first. If you had to pick one between TLOU2 and GOT which one would it be? I’m digging the sequel, but I don’t think it will pass Horizon as my game of the generation.
I've finished TLOU2 and I liked it a lot and have no problem with the story and such. I'm currently about 60-75% through GoT.I can’t wait to start GOT. these screenshots, so misleading. It'll be really interesting to hear about the development of this game once it's out. I can already imagine Schreier would be eager to sink his teeth into it.

Jesus fucking Christ...
They could do another country and warrior cast. Like AC but so much betterAnd the graphics aren't even the best part of GOT. The gameplay was still entertaining at hour 60 or how ever many it was to get the plat.
It's really a unicorn game - looks great and plays great and even manages to innovate the genre in a few ways.
I hope there is a great GOT 2 but I don't think SP can ever match the impact of this one - coming on the heels of TLOU 2 it was a sleeper and that made its impact that much greater.
So maybe it's best to just let it breathe on PS5, add some DLC and then leave it as a perfect standalone experience rather than pollute it with sequels that can't match the impact of this one.
So now that xbox show is over whats Next?
They could do another country and warrior cast. Like AC but so much better
But they need to pick a location that is as beautiful as Japan and that is going to be difficult.
So in todays video which RedGamingTech released, he mentioned a number of times that MoorsLawisDead (Tom) contacted him via DM and was asking for some information about the PS5 customisations, the leak about PS5's Geometry Engine being used in RDNA 3 as well as the Ray-Tracing customisation which Tom mentioned in his latest video both came from RGT, I don't buy it if Tom said he heard it from multiple sources. He only ever mentions these leaks after RGT leaked them, which makes me suspicious about the information he passes off as "exclusive inside information which he has heard from multiple sources".
It's not just MooresLawisDead, both MBG and Foxy took to Twitter today saying how they've "heard" that PS5 has an "enhanced RDNA 2 GPU with features from RDNA 3", and this was straight after RGT released his video. I mean, my only issue with this is they make it out like they've got some sort of "inside sources", it was pretty obvious they took the information from RGT's videos. I've also seen information discussed in this thread pop up on places like Youtube comments on certain videos and on Twitter. I guess this thread is pretty popular lol
Btw this is not so much a defence of Paul cough*myslef*cough but I'm just pointing how dudes like MBG, Foxy and MoorsLawIsDead play it off like they have some sort of inside info on the PS5 when really they've just been recycling leaks from other people like RGT.
XSX is vital for Microsoft because that shows that they are still a console gaming company, and that they have the "best place to play", and they aren't going to give that up.MS are making all their games run on low spec hardware and PC. Why produce custom hardware if you can just box up a PC and badge it as xbox and still run the games? Save a ton of money on custom hardware/OS and get the same result.
Okay so I made this brief list about the first/second party games presented at both events with their possible release dates:
PlayStation (In this case, I believe most of the games presented were targeting a 2020/2021 release date):
Spider-Man Miles Morales (Holiday 2020/ Launch game)
Destruction All Stars (I was thinking this one could be a launch game, but probably an early 2021 release)
Returnal (Probably 2021)
Demon's Souls Remake (Probably 2021)
Sackboy (I've got a feeling this one could be a launch day title too)
Astro's Playroom (Holiday 2020/ Free game installed on every console)
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart (Probably 2021)
Horizon II: Forbidden West (Probably mid 2021)
Xbox:
Halo Infinite (Holiday 2020, Launch game)
Forza Motorsport (most likely a 2022 release, Phil Spencer said it's "early in develpment")
State of Decay 3 (probably a 2022/2023 release)
Avowed (probably a 2023 release)
Grounded (Launching next week! and obviously it will be playable at launch too)
Phychonauts 2 (Recently delayed to 2021)
Hellblade 2 (most likely a 2022/2023 release date)
Fable (it seems this one is still an early in development trailer, 2023 is the most likely scenario)
Everwild (I'd say this one is targeting a 2022 release)
Tell Me Why (Launching on August 27, also available at launch)
PlayStation announced 9 games, Xbox announced 10, PlayStation has 2 confirmed games available at launch (Spider-Man Miles Morales and Astro's Playroom) while so far Xbox has 3 (Grounded, Tell Me Why and Halo Infinite). But on the PlayStation side I think we have some games that could be easily be launch titles (such as Destruction All Stars and Sackboy) and this could be confirmed (or not) on the next event and the other titles are probably releasing throughout the next year. While on the Xbox side we only have Psychonauts 2 throughout the entire 2021 while the other games are 2022 releases at the earliest. This makes me wonder if Xbox Series X can live only from Console Launch Exclusives.
That still looks basic. The animals harsh right side shadows. All the trees looks so bad for a next gen. The weapon lacks self shadowing etc. Here's a quick mockup, a small reminder of how hard we were robbed with this presentation, this is what could've been:

XSX is vital for Microsoft because that shows that they are still a console gaming company, and that they have the "best place to play", and they aren't going to give that up.
They've been putting XSX in the forefront since December 2019 in their marketing. Just because this showcase didn't properly show it's power doesn't mean the whole console is marginalised in the messaging. I think Microsoft just believes in both. Best and most powerful console to play on, AND Game Pass best service to get your games. It's just not easy to market them both simultaneously when one is failing to show why it's needed. If Halo was a technical marvel everyone would see why XSX is a great console and is needed. Now we only see in Game Pass a positive, because Halo fell flat.Well if xsex is "vital" for MS they're doing a good job of hiding that with the gamepass and "hardware sales not important" message. Not to mention not showing it running anything.
Gamepass and software services are the wheelhouse for MS - but the logical conclusion is MS ditch the custom hardware and that's why I think we're seeing xsex marginalised in the messaging.

If this is not the year when a family wants to make a decision to buy a new Xbox, that’s OK
Premature assumption. Horizon wasn’t real time

Also, this popped up in my feed. Man, CDPR really did us dirty when it came to graphics. They showcased it on main stage with the controller to make it feel like it was running on Xbox One.
It still remains T3 game of the generation for me, so there's still hope for Halo, if they can nail the gameplay, people will forget about graphics quick.

this has to be the worst downgrade ever. Watch dogs, witcher 3, rainbow six seige have nothing on this.

Yep, this hurt when game was first released. Now you can mod it to look way better than what was showed at E3 + at 4k / 60FPS...

Moore's Law Is DeadSorry, who is MLID?
Yeah maybe - there are hooks in the story that could allow it to branch out while maintaining at least a link to this stuff.
I don't know if I want an AC style total clearing down of the story and a new game but with the same mechanics. I don't mind if they do that but not to call it Ghost of ....
I guess kind of like FromSoft Soulsborne - take the mechanisms, adjust them for the new setting and release a new independent game/story.
I did read SP had considered a 3 musketeers style story setting. Could be interesting.
Then again - it would be interesting to see the rest of Jin's story. At least on my play through there was still a story to be told for Jin about what happens next.... but I think that could be DLC rather than a whole new GOT 2.
Considering switching to Sony Playstation and getting the PS5.
Moore's Law Is Dead
You know I'm coming round to this idea now.
I think actually there is no generational console competition at this stage.
MS aren't directly competing with Sony or Nintendo any more.
Xsex isn't being treated like a "next gen" console release. The way MS are treating it, the release of xsex this year is a coincidence not a focus of their strategy.
To be honest I think MS is pulling in 2 directions internally - one part, probably the business side - has seen the potential for a new revenue stream for gamepass, the opportunity to lead that segment, and wants all resources to go there. Thye want to be spotify/netflix and the opportunity is there at the moment.
That element probably doesn't want to spend money to develop/release custom hardware right now - the work is done so may as well press on - but xbox hardware isn't their priority and the custom hardware messaging conflicts with gamepass.
Somewhere else - probably inside the xbox division and the teams working on the hardware/ O/S - they still believe they're competing in the consumer electronics space with Sony and they're the ones pushing a new Xbox.
No one had the balls to straight up cancel the xsex project so they're continuing but clearly it's not the focus of MS efforts.
In the past I felt that if the xsex was a "sales failure" it'd be the last custom hardware xbox. Now I'm not sure it matters whether it's a "failure" or "success" assuming gamepass is winning/competing in the game "sampler" segment.
MS are making all their games run on low spec hardware and PC. Why produce custom hardware if you can just box up a PC and badge it as xbox and still run the games? Save a ton of money on custom hardware/OS and get the same result.
What this means for Sony is that while the PS5 is unopposed in the "traditional" console space, they'll be forced to respond to how the market is moving. Simple answer - let gamepass appear on playstation - but that's the thin end of a wedge - for gamepass to work on PS, the PS architecture also has to be/remain PC like going forward.
Sony could go the other way and try to compete with MS on something like gamepass in the cross platform world but here's where the visions of the companies diverge.
Sony have a different stake in the game - they're a consumer electronics company. Playstation fits with their other products in the home electronics space so it's in their interest to resist the PC crossover for as long as they can.
If PS stops being custom hardware and moves to a PC box with releases day/date in the PC space, Sony would be competing in a sector they have little presence in, and dilute the very consumer electronics focus that drives the sales across their product line.
TLDR Gamepass plays to MS strengths, Playstation plays to Sony's strengths - they're not directly comepting right now and neither should they.
It's just the visuals we were promised back in 2018. I for one would've been more than pleased if the actual game had looked like thisThat still looks basic. The animals harsh right side shadows. All the trees looks so bad for a next gen. The weapon lacks self shadowing etc.
I don’t understand that doom and gloom posts about ms, yes, halo infinite presentation was a disgrace (but I am hoping it was alpha build), but ms just presented 22 games that will be console exclusives for xbox (some timed, but still something too look forward to), not all first party studios shown what they are working on so there is still something to wait for. I would say that before next gen launches we will have a list of 30-40 Xbox exclusives that will launch in the next 1-3 years, roughly 1 a month, all will be game pass day one, there is nice mix of various genres and everything from indie to AA and AAA titles. So what we know is that xbsex will be 12tf powerhouse, and that “there are no games on Xbox“ narrative can go away. One Halo Infinite should not define the console, event though it is a flagship franchise.
for me;
also;
- sony event didnt convince me to buy ps5 day one (I will wait and buy it mid gen when there are enough Sony exclusives released, like I do every gen)
- ms event didn’t change my mind and I will get xbsex day one when it launches
- game pass value will be hard to ignore for casual gamers to dip into ms ecosystem and this seems to be the main objective for ms this coming generation
We‘ve also learned that 343i are not the greatest marketers.
Yes, he did, so I'm not entirely sure what the issue was here.Is he claiming MLID was appropriating RGTs work?
Not sure if I agree with that. MLID references RGT in his latest vid, doesn't he?
They are competing.
Both companies try to satisfy the same need, but with slightly different strategies.
So I've worked with graphics my whole life and I think the demo and this original footage isn't that far off honestly. I think the backgrounds in the new demo was a poor choice of location as it's has too many flat surfaces and the trees just looks so out of place and scattered about, it's really lacking in art direction and landscape composition. The background mountains had perhaps a bit lower details in their texture work than this screen shot. But these trees looks like shit in 2020 and Halo was the think people thought would show of the capabilities of the 12FT machine they've been boasting about. Both the old and new shots looks to simple and plain as well as lacking in lighting. They really should have implemented some basic Global Illumination and screen space reflections. Also the trees and grass should sway a little bit and the trees them selves should use their LOD-1 further back so not to look so flat/billboard. I mean, even though they lighting need to work with dynamic night and day, GoT pulls both vegetation and lighting off better than this. It's just the visuals we were promised back in 2018. I for one would've been more than pleased if the actual game had looked like this
