I'm sorry, but I don't see you as technically savvy. You just radiate what you think is real, hypothetically, but you don't even realize how wrong you are about the details. You didn't answer in fact how they will solve problems with abstractions and layering, driver overlays, and so on. You can't get RID of this on a PC so that you can adopt the PS5 design. So yeah. I'm a dumbass. It won't directly work, it's fine. There's many levels I don't understand within the scape. Going from storage memory and bypassing layers isn't possible on the PC sphere. Tis cool bro. That
The part of your own thing I highlighted answers what I mean. I will it change the entire PC sphere? Maybe, maybe not. Tbh I don't think that'll happen till we move off silicon, if that's even possible. That's the other story. But the fact that has come out in your own post, is will there be changes? Yes! How? Even I do know that, but I've already disclaimered that I'm just speculating and theorising. So yes but much, much more clever people than me are already spend billions working on it.
That GPU Direct link already says that they're working on bypassing the CPU and moving storage directly to GPU.
So Nvidia are also doing what AMD and Sony are trying to do on PS5 which is allow the GPU and Storage to bypass the CPU.

I've known about this for years. And so far, this is only for highly specialized server tasks, where both big data volumes and speeds are needed. Will it all come to consumer PCs? I don't know, I've been hoping for this for a long time. But there is still nothing and what are the reasons? I don't know either. But I suspect that the global PC market is just not ready yet. And so, I fully agree with you that GPUDirect should come to consumer PCs, sooner or later, but it will definitely happen. The Direct Storage API is the initial stage.

And if you also read my previous answers, I said it'd be used in data centres and servers more than the consumer market too. Come on bro!
As we both can see if that happens then it filters through, yeah? So we're on the same page, different angle? Just that both AMD with Sony and Nvidia are attempting to do this direct to GPU thing, bypassing the CPU so everything is more efficient. I'm just hoping that the PS5 design helps both AMD and Nvidia understand through put more and advances it all. But no better proof in the pudding than spending time analysing the box over the next 5-8 years and seeing how coders and programmers make use of seeing the SSD load straight to GPU regularly.

But yeah, I like tech. I'm love seeing new advances in things. And yup what I was going about with the changes in PS5 is things including straight to GPU computing, as you knew it as GPU Direct, it was only last year that Nvidia had some storage solution! So maybe it was a storage problem, that with the advancements of nand flash has solved, it has only recently become plausibly effective? Bottlenecks in I/O throughput? I don't know but I'm interested 😂

There's probably the same kind of file marker on the discs that means it'll be rejected by, say, an Xbox when you insert it. I think that's probably the easiest part of the whole thing.

Simple.

PS4 mode - game has never received a PS4 pro patch, so it runs as it did in the PS4 (will probably leverage the SSD a bit and have better framerates)
PS4 pro mode - game that received or was designed already with the PS4 Pro in mind. Same as above
PS5 mode - game that has been patched to have either some sort of capability only possible on PS5 or received a compatibility patch.

That's all.

No, I don't think that's right. There must be some way for PS4 games to work in PS5 mode so they get a boost to frame rate/resolution.*

*where not locked at 30fps or 60fps/using dynamic resolution

Presumably framerate boosts would be automatic where it's not locked, as it's tantamount to playing a PC game on a more powerful system.
I'd assume resolution boosts and framerate boosts where the framerate is locked would need to be patched into the game itself. That might be where the whitelist of games comes in.

Well almost certain now backward compatibility will be on the PS5. Looking at the included Astro's Playroom they show playthrough where you unlock a PS3, not sure if anybody mentioned this already but maybe this is actually unlocking the BC to play PS3 games (and ofcourse stages to unlock BC for PS4,2,1)

They have bundled the game in for free, and they probably want everybody to play it to experience all the new features of DualSense5. What better way to give people the incentive to play it by actually unlocking real BC abilities, I guess there will be a skip for people who can't be arsed

Im not sure if this will hold true for next gen. UE5 touts ease of use for open world games, via virtualized geometry and automated lods ("lodless system")

I really dont think Sony's first parties are just twiddling their thumbs on this... Perhaps im too optimistic, but I think games will have shorter development cycles..

Btw here's an old video from BlenderGuru, outlining how AAA openworlds are unsustainable and what he thinks will be the future. Its interesting imo and also why im looking forward to seeing more ML/AI in game development.



Edit: Btw im not saying games right now, will be shorter. But I think during the course of this gen - we'll see shorter cycles. But than again... the saved time, could just mean they'll just allocate resources for more "depth" in games..

We've kissed and made up now but yeah this is it. For me looking at the custom I/O unit for direct memory storage is change and accelerated architecture all in 1. Within the unit there's a decompression chip, a DMA controller, 2 I/O coprocessors, a pool of SRAM cache and coherency engines as well as the Geometry Engine in the GPU itself which is mapping the SSD storage. All this added together looks to be good for all tech spaces because the we're working how to eliminate design bottlenecks that slow down everything because not enough data is being streamed or decompressed quick enough!

My guess is swappable plates, like the sides of the console. So selling LE plates could be console+controller plates bundles together. Maybe wishful thinking overall.

Can't swap the touchpad. That controller has a black touchpad too.

Sony still hasn't released a full spec sheet on the pulse yet, although I'm sure the sound quality will be a step above the Golds which I also am looking to replace. The pulse seems like it will have a better mic with the dual noise canceling setup and looks more comfortable as well. The 12 hour battery life seems low, but I can't remember what the golds were like stock because I replaced the battery in mine with something massive so I get 20+ hours out of them now.

Either way my Gold set is starting to fall apart so I'll probably pick up the Pulse unless the price is outlandish.
