I love Persona 5, but I'd give the edge to The Last Of Us 2. Amazing animations, bold story that pulls no punches, great new gameplay features, some of the craziest levels I've ever seen in a game (a fucking river is going thru a series of buildings and streets).

What I like about Persona 5 really is just that its like Persona 3 and 4 before it. I actually like that it doesn't seek to do something brand new or wildly different, its just the same Persona that I know and love. So Persona 5 is as great as I expected it to be as I like 3 and 4, but The Last Of Us 2 is beyond anything I expected and I'm happy as fuck its not what I thought it was going to be.

Not every story needs to be happy go lucky and we need something like this in the industry to move the medium forward. I'm completely fine that Persona 5 doesn't do that as thats not what I'm wanting from Persona 6 or something lol

Tranquil Tranquil to me Persona 5 is a great game, but the series isn't for everyone. I know many don't like the playing as a school kid and social stuff etc.

Question, I'll post it in both these threads why did you decide to do this in a bracket and not just a larger poll like the GOTY threads?

I'm just looking at the bracket, and there's a couple of games in there that have tough matches in the first or second round that could do better in the another format (TLOU2 vs P5 and Bloodborne vs Sekiro come to mind). It's not really voting for your overall game of the gen, rather it's just about the individual matches.

For example...
I dont care who wins as long as last of us 2 looses ;)

These match ups are odd. These games couldn't be more different if they tried. I can summon Angel in P5 so I'm voting for it.

Persona 5.

I had more fun with it. The whole experience fit perfectly together, gave me choices and had interesting gameplay.
TLOU2 is a technical achievement on itself, but the gameplay is quite simple and the experience overall was not as interesting or solid as Persona 5 for me.

I also like the persona colorful, fantastic, creative and surprising universe more than the gritty heavy ultrarealistic and dark tlou2

Probably because it's more of an event this way. But yeah, I'm not a huge fan of 1v1 brackets like this.

Kinda shocked results are so close to one another. I thought gaf loved P5 cuz of weebshit. Anyway voted P5 because I finished it twice and I will never replay tlou2 ever again so yeah.

This is the kind of attitude we need in votes like this when people like xxxKarma take their time to prepare all this for hours and hours.

I am fucking ashamed to share a planet with you.

lol

I didn't like last of us 2, didn't play persona but I anit voting for last of us 2.

It is a meaningless competition. I knew TLOU2 was out in round 1 because of people like you. It could've been up against Crackdown 3 and people would vote for Crackdown 3 "to teach Neil Cuckmann a lesson".

just gonna stamp your feet and have a tantrum like a toddler.

I like rpgs, so Personal easily wins out of those 2. Still, Witcher 3 beats both of them.

TLOU2 should win but P5 will. Morgana is a bigger cunt than anybody in TLOU2 and the P5 gameplay is woeful.

Persona 5 is one of the best JRPGs this gen. I couldn't finish TLOU2 because the story was garbage and the gameplay started to feel stale.

Persona 5 is a massive JRPG with style to spare. Strong, memorable characters, fantastical settings, and a good moral story about the nature of modern japan and being shackled to conformity. Its gameplay has enough depth to keep you enticed for its 100+ hour run time with plenty of ways to customize your party. Its soundtrack is also incredibly memorable, even if it isn't to your taste. It sadly recieved a less-than-stellar censored re-release with some new story bits and had issues with its pacing for about 10-15 hours (of a 100+ hour adventure).

TLOU2 is a mediocre game that lacks the style, memorable characters, strong writing, fantastical settings, or a good story in general. Everything it does it seems to fail at. Its gameplay lacks any and all depth, it is poorly paced throughout the entire 20-30 hour adventure (let's be real, the game could last 10 hours and it would lose *nothing*), its soundtrack is unmemorable outside of 1 to 2 songs, and its characters have been ruined from the previous entry. Animations were fantastic though, when they were properly queued to the right sound effect and didn't glitch out.

So yea, Persona 5 wins. It is the better game that had more love and care put into all facets of it. I applaud the artists that currently and formerly worked at ND for their work on the animations in TLOU2, but that was really the *only* standout feature in that game for me.

If I could change my vote I would, doesn't look like it would make a diffrence :messenger_expressionless:

Persona 5 is simply not for me, I can't play it, it's too bad to my preference and deleted it after the first level.

TLOU2 indeed.

I thought P5R is one of the best games I've played in a long time. I loved all the different systems while nothing was complicated. The game oozes so much style that just works so well. It was fun, story was good, it played well. TLOU2 played very well but the change of characters half way through really killed its momentum and made me not really care. I liked it, but I enjoyed the first one much more

I wish Morgana could kill every mediocre character in TLOU2

I wish I could do this^ to that awful character and purge it from existence. P5 AKA Go To Bed Simulator is one of the most overrated pieces of shit this gen IMO.

Persona 5 for me. It was my first entry into the series and I loved it. I didn't anticipate getting P5R, but decided to anyway. I finished it twice and put in over 330 hours into it. I loved every minute of it. It's easily one of my all-time favorite games.

I'm not even a gigantic Persona fan and I know they somehow are consistently good. If not better and better. To be frank, a track record that TLOU wishes it could have.

Neither are game of the generation, heck neither are game of the year, heck neither are exactly good games rather they're an acquired taste, and as much as I find Persona games overrated, anime will always be > LGBT crap.

I bought P5R a few month ago while I was waiting for TLoU2. I've been wanting to play a Persona game since the PlayStation 2 days but for sone reason never could.

I was pleasantly surprised, I became so engaged with the story and characters that it immediately became one of my favorite games all time.

In contrast, I had to force myself to finish TLoU 2 due to the tedious looting system. The first half was one of the most exciting games I've ever played but then it fell off a cliff really hard.

So, my vote goes to P5R.
