How much have you saved up for next gen already?

With all this speculation about price it made me wonder how much everyone has saved up for next gen? Whether that be for PC, PS5 or XBSX/XBSS.

As the enthusiast side of the gaming community youd kind of expect we were the most prepared financially despite the trying times. Last year I bought all my games in advance to make saving up this year even easier.

I've saved £1300 ($1700) at the moment but only because I haven't fully decided between PS5 or PC. I like to stick with gaming in one place so if I went PS5 only I'd just buy a second controller and a large internal SSD when available and spend the rest on none gaming items.

So how goes your next gen savings? Has life gotten in the way much?

I don't "save up" to buy game consoles because I'm not just scraping by thankfully. When it comes out I'll just buy one.

If you have to save up for a 500€/$ box...how can you afford gaming in general?
I think in that situation you should put that money towards food and clothes :messenger_face_screaming:

I already have more than enough to buy PS5 but first I need to know what's coming at launch. If neither Kena and Scarlet Nexus not releasing same day then there is no reason for me to buy PS5 at launch.

Is it that crazy? Surely that would be a large chunk of most people's monthly wage 🤔 I have about $650 a month disposable after all my bills are paid. Well I do buy clothes and food which lowers it further as well as maintaining a house/life style etc. Saving a bit each month makes it the most sensible option for me.

Sounds good just make sure its HDMI 2.1 to future proof it! 😁
And why would you need 2.1 for PS5? They won't be able to do 120@4K, you guys keep falling for marketing bullshit once again, maybe indie like Ori on XSX will, but even Rachet won't do 4K@60.

So if he wants to ever connect a PC to it plus I'm sure he wont want to be replacing a 70 inch tv anytime soon.

Got 800 euro lying in my drawer ready to get spended. They are not THAT expensive but surely it's a lot more than I normally spend a month on toys. So saving up for it seems normal enough.

I think it's hard for a lot of people on Gaf (particularly those of us from the west) to understand that a lot of people with gaming as a passion don't have the same income to consumer goods ratio we do in the west. If I make 4k a month, and a console is 0.5k then that's fine, but now imagine a country where the console is still 0.5k but the median income is 0.4k...that's what a lot of countries are dealing with.

Good job saving mate, hope it nets you a nice setup :)

HDMI 2.1 is not (just) about bandwith........ALLM, VRR, eARC.........maybe inform yourself before forming an opinion first?
Also: PCs? Pro consoles?

No need to save amount x for a console. I knew I want a PS5 day one and new TV, so I "reserved" 2k€ for both and mention this money as already gone, so I won't be lacking anything the time I spend it.

Assuming they're $500, and I'd be fucking flabbergasted if they were more than that, I have enough set aside for one console and two games.

I've done something similar put my money out of my account and into premium bonds till the day I need to withdraw it.

I started saving up in March, but now I will spend the money on other stuff after seeing both presentations.

Are you giving up on gaming completely or sticking to current consoles or PC gaming?

I'm hopeful the second Sony conference will deliver. I'll be so hyped if Silent Hill is announced.

Come on, lots of gamers are very young and in school. 500-600$ dollar is a lot for them.
Sure, if you are an adult with a job and organized economy, 500$ is not really something that you need to save up or plan for,
but a lot of our gamer peers are young and do not have much discretionary income.

(Says me who has over 20 sony consoles and many thousand physical games in his dedicated sony room.
(I have individual PS1 games that cost a lot more than what PS5 will launch at.:) )

Usually I'd be able to splurge on a new gen console this year, however I'll be building a 3080 based PC this quarter which may well squeeze my ass around console launch time. Then it'll be back to sucking dicks in the parking lot at walmart to afford one.

Those snotty brats should focus on their education and stay out of my multiplayer games :messenger_winking_tongue::messenger_winking_tongue:

People have other commitments/hobbies, children, holidays, partners to entertain, houses to maintain etc

You don't necessarily save because you can't afford one outright but its just the sensible option that doesn't negatively affect any one month too much.

Anecdotally nearly everyone around me in north east of England has to manage their money a least a little to get the new consoles.

My plan is to get both a series X and a PS5 day one. Might get a fancy TV for Christmas next year.

So, whatever that costs.

For PC I'll be using Nvidia Geforce Now cloud gaming. I'm enjoying Stadia on my kishi and contemplating getting a chromecast ultra and controller as they're on sale at the minute.

So, like 1200 for the consoles in November and the tv next year will probably be like 1000.

I have a bit of money as my Birthday is in October so will scratch some extra then. Failing that, I'll sell my body under the local overpass.

None so far as am not interested in the current launch schedule, will buy a PS5 when a bundle comes out for HZD II.

Instead I have put the money I would have spent on one and some games into my home theatre and music studio set ups.

£4,000 and counting

£1,599 - LG CX 55"
£1,399 - RTX 3090. - need a new psu so £200 on top of that.
£700 - PS5 - might not cost that much but i got it put aside for it.

that leaves me with £100 so i'm sorted. just waiting for the LG CX to be back in stock and for the 3090/PS5 to release.

If you have to plan around a 500 dollar piece of plastic you are doing life wrong. Or you are a child.
Or you don't clearly earn as much as some of the other forum users.
Or you have kids.
Or your car breaks down suddenly.
Or you need to get the plumber in because a pipe burst.

Etc.

Already have my 4k TV. Put €50 deposit on the PS5. Just got €380 for selling my PS4 Pro and 3 controllers. So I'm pretty much set as it ain't costing me much. At some point in 21/22 I'll be buying PSVR2 and a new headset so I'll be saving now for those instead.

I got like 1000€ saved up for both consoles.

I just hope my last paycheckin the year will cover the games I want and the possible(or likely) price variance in the systems.

Definitely getting both this time though.

You're right, for some reason I assume people always bring up HDMI 2.1 argument because of the 4K@120fps on consoles. Other reasons you've mentioned are valid, eARC, VRR, PC. But if one is bothered by 4K@120 on consoles, I wouldn't, although I think most TV's from 2021 will have HDMI(-s) 2.1.

I'm probably double posting to reply here...I don't really care:

You are surely kidding, right?
Not only are people not earning enough for their work to consider 500€ or $, a neglectible spending, they are also probably out of work, or severely compromised in this fuckingh pandemic going on.

I'm happy for you if you can just throw away that kind of money without worrying about your well-being, but don't assume that to be the case for everyone.

I haven't even thought of buying a graphics card yet to replace my magnificent RX480 which continues to serves me so well.
