The fidelity, loading, animations and LOD on Demon’s Souls is legitimately the first actual evidence of next gen that we’ve seen. Nothing else has come close.

Anyone downplaying is playing at console wars. I expect to see similar from Series X, but when we look back on this period, it’ll be DeS remake we consider to be where the gen began.

Indeed! I mean watching that event in 1080p makes the look "ok/meh". We should see even better visuals going to the next generation, but this is definitely a good start.

The textures are pretty high. The lighting isn't that good but it's the theme of this gloomy game, so it's more artistic than realistic. I'm more impressed by Spider-man MM, honestly.

The characters in DeS honestly don't look better than your average PS4 game. The Maiden (forget what she's called) in particular doesn't really look that great in close-ups. But overall, in motion, the game looks very nice.

Yup, it looks like a remaster PS5 game, but nice overall. I think it's 30fps, probably with a 60fps mode.

That tutorial area didn't look significantly better than similar kinds of environments from games like God of War and Uncharted 4.

If it was those graphics at 4k60 then obviously that's a different story, that'd be impressive fidelity for that output. But I don't think it is, is it? It's got a high framerate mode so that suggests it's dropping resolution to achieve that. Unless it's just dropping RT?

But for me Miles Morales looks better, and that's cross gen.
Ratchet looks way better.

And I'm sorry but unheralded stuff like Deathloop and Destruction Allstars look better to me as well.

What I will say is that the reaction to it imo shows just how much easier it is to impress with realistic visuals compared to cartoony, stylised graphics.

It was probably going to PC initially then Sony secured timed exclusivity. So probably they didn't optimize for PS5 just yet to run a demo.

All development starts on PC, they probably weren't working with dev kits for this trailer. Which was also most likely made for the June showcase based on rumours and was dropped because Sony only wanted stuff from PS5 dev kits

There is a disclaimer anyway, so no one gets mislead. And it does look a bit rough, honestly, with some lip sync issues. Overall, it looks clean and nice.

You are missing the point and I admit I should've made it more clear.

What I'm saying is that FFXVI doesn't look like a cutting edge SP Final Fantasy like FFXV, it looks more like a game that has to run on as many systems as possible, which is very typical for MMORPGs, like Final Fantasy XIV hence it reminds me of FFXIV. I wasn't trying to say that it looks like FFXIV, more like it has some really rough edges which are typical for MMORPGs.

The textures of the Chocobo's beak and the sword, the chainmail, the feathers, the dirt(?) and wrinkles on the clothes are all low res textures

The grass and ambient occlusion looks worse than FFXV on PC and especially the ground textures... this screenshot in particular looks really bad for a next gen title.

The Chocobo looks much improved over FFXV... but I'd expect more from a next gen mainline FF.

Compare that to Final Fantasy XV running on a PC and I'd argue that there isn't much of an improvement and it's not like FFXV came out last year.

Now you could argue that a lot can happen until release and I hope it will, but it hasn't exactly blown me away graphically and I seem to not be the only one.

For me the best was demon's souls, that is a good example of a next gen lauch title (e obviously because it is only ps5 and not cross gen) all the rest is between ok and meh. Final Fantasy XVI is honestly terrible, the tech demo of the louminous engine made for ps4 was better than this lol
