it's something called a battery that comes standard in the Dualsense controller but somehow you have to pay and extra 22 dollar (29 euro) for it on the xbox controller and folks sing halleluja for it cus MS is giving them "choice"

Yes sir, I love the choice to have replacement batteries that I can swap out in a moments notice. The double capacity over the built-in DS4 battery is another nice bonus.

I'm happy that XBOX will be getting some hopefully great games, and give me a reason to really have a desire to buy an XSX. ... That said, I guess this commentary aged well:

"Exclusives Are 'Completely Counter To What Gaming Is About,' Xbox's Phil Spencer Says"

I would like Microsoft to compete, but I am afraid he didn't lie with his statement. I have the feeling thst they actually want to go fully 3rd party. Microsoft wants to be a big publisher because big publishers make alot of money. He said 1 trillion times that he wants people to play Xbox games on the platform of their choice. They hinted in their Twitter this week that they don't care if people choose playstation 5 over XsX 🙄. It's actually how Microsoft business works, Windows everywhere but we also provid Windows on our own hardware. 🙄 We don't care if you don't buy Surface pro, go buy Lenovo 😊. I won't be surprised if they are negotiating behind the scene trying to convince Sony to put gamepass on playstation.

Microsoft buying Bethesda is probably not gonna translate into what Xbox audience were hoping for.

Okay so this is what's happening:
- Microsoft bought Zenimax.
- This means Microsoft is now Bethesda's parent company (just as Zenimax was before).
- Past, present and future Bethesda titles will be on Gamepass from now on.
- Bethesda games will continue to be self published on the platform they want, just like they did before when Zenimax was their parent company, and just like companies like Rockstar do it despite being owned by Take Two. BUT Microsoft can decide if a certain game (probably a new IP) will be an Xbox-PC exclusive.

Your last bullet point is most likely only temporary.. when a big acquisition like this takes place you eventually get rid of the redundant aspects, and their publishing wing is certainly redundant for MS.

The statements made by people like Pete Hines from Bethesda are about the current and near future state. They won't even be owned by MS for many months until the deal goes through (if it actually does, probably will), so of course their current day to day and status of current projects doesn't change. I'm not sure what value MS would find long-term in keeping Bethesda Publishing around as a group or in name. Rockstar was such a powerful brand name Take 2 decided to basically have Rockstar be their main publishing brand; it's still all owned by Take 2. I don't think MS will consider the Bethesda name anywhere as powerful.

TO be honest it's so good to see MS rolling. e.
But still we'll need to wait until 2022 at best to see anything meaningfull.
For Sony fans it only means that Sony will need to be whole much better than this gen, and this is awesome.
In 2022 i'll buy XSX probably when first AAA will starting to showup and we can judge their quality.

So basically MS will also have great generation.
And for Sony that mean few things :
1) Sony will think again about having Sony Pass with exclusives, they have no choice. Price will be probably higher than GP but not having something similar will only hurt their consoles sales.
2) Sony will stop thinking about porting anything on PC. It makes no sense to port their games to PC when they need to really compete right now with that exclusive content. They were thinking about that because they already thought they won generation ( like we all playstation fans did). And they probably win launch, but by the end 2023 it will be much harder to persuade somebody to choose PS5 over MS if MS also can provide high quality exclusives for price of GP.
3) Sony will probably speed up any taking over they have in background. No way around it.

COMPETITION IS GREAT.
Phil I'm really sorry, you really had an idea for that. Have a nice generation xbox fans.
Today was MS redemption.

Sincerly Mr. Zaitsu Playstation Fanboy nr.1
I don't think it's as easy as just having a Sony Pass and put everything there, I believe they will find another strategy for their value proposition, maybe moneyhatting something biig, maybe more studio acquisitions that have worked close with them. I think this is their chance to take the route they want, Xbox clearly is taking the services route and wants to have big names on their service on day one and I don't think it would be wise for Sony to just start doing the same. Maybe they will start doubling down on exclusive games, maybe they will make a big game exclusive, who knows, but I don't think it's the best idea to just do exactly the same thing.

When you get to 20+ studios large maybe it's just easier on the management side to stick with the status quo

They can't have it both ways though and still have people willing to believe you... though, I am beginning to question that due to certain very public people these days.
Still, You can't say this is what I say despite this being what I do when being the head of the product. He truly does constantly say one thing and contradict it with statement or action after.

I want XBOX to compete, because it's good for gaming as a whole. That's why they need to have strong 1st party no matter how they do that. I want Sony to have strong 1st party for the same reasons. I want them to compete. They can't be an all inclusive ecosystem and be a powerhouse 1st party publishing house.

My issue is not what happened with the purchase of these studios, ... it's the statements and contradictions.

Yeah... Thats my theory too.

Ms MIGHT creating an illusion here. They have been constantly deminstrating that their Idea and goal is having as much subscribers as possible.

They dont want to go neck and neck with console sales, they want to build the biggest gaming service to date, something like the Netflix of games, and will compete a virtual platform with a cloud system

Their goal is to sell Gamepass to people who may or may not be Xbox purchasers.

That's it.. that's where the "play it where you want, on what type of device you want" messaging comes from. And that is incredibly unlikely to be on a PlayStation, or a Switch for that matter.

And people still want to... play games on consoles.. and not by streaming.. so they are most likely going to make the majority of Bethesda studios games exclusive to Xbox/PC/Gamepass in the future since Xbox is likely to continue to be the #1 way people use Gamepass for the foreseeable future.

And no this isn't an Xbox fan expressing a desire; I hate that a huge publisher was bought by a 1st party personally.. whether it was Sony doing it or MS doing it. MS is the lesser of 2 evils as they expect people to support PC, but it's still incredibly likely to remove choice from console gamers.

I am not on Sony's side or microsoft's. I am on the side of gamers, and gamers have been getting fucked left and right by both sony and microsoft.

it's not my fault 2020 has been a miserable year for gamers.
A miserably year? 2020 introduced one of the best line up of games ever. 😂😂😂. We had Doom, FF7, RE3, TLOU2, GoT, and on the way Demon's Souls, Spider-Man MM, Cyberpunk 2077, COD cold war, New consoles, New GPUs.

I doubt it. Game publishing is mostly about throwing money around to buy projects, and having people around to do the talking/decision making for these projects. They will absorb employees and "grow" as a publisher but there'd be way too many redundancies to just keep all of Bethesda Publishing around IMO. MS already has people for everything a publisher would do.. manufacturing, retail relationships.. digital publishing to any and all platforms (since MS already publishes to Playstation and Nintendo as well as mobile)... I just can't think of some differentiator where Bethesda survives as a publisher after this.

If microsoft want service model they must do game pass on all platforms and consoles

If they want sell consoles on old model they must do that

you can not have a gaming service without backing up the largest installment base on playstation platforms

so they don't have that kind of money, yet it is third of their cash? very logical sentences :messenger_tears_of_joy:
they could easily buy zenimax.

and it is not 1 gaming studio. it is 8, and most important, is those studio's IPs.

this is massive in gaming world actually.

The blood hasn't returned back to their brains yet for some of these fanboys lol.

just last week they were shouting anti-consumer when FFXVI was revealed to be a PS exclusive, but MS buy Zenimax and it's pro-consumer! 😂🤷🏽‍♂️

I 100% agree they still care about selling consoles and have been saying that forever.. it's their bread and butter revenue wise. Their most valued customers are their Xbox customers who subscribe to Gamepass and spend other money on their digital Xbox store where they get at least a 30% cut.

They also want to expand beyond that.. hence PC support and xCloud "on every device type." They envision the "1 billion gamers on xCloud" idea.. but at the base of it all, for the foreseeable future, is Xbox hardware.

My point was they aren't going 3rd party, despite all their talk of supporting other platforms. As long as they are selling 10s of millions of Xboxes I doubt they ever will abandon the console space.

Sure.... MS just gifted 7,5B $ for nothing 😉

It's to make money on you regardless. They can push GP on other consoles and all platforms. Sony fans buy PS5 Elder Scrolls they make money on you. Sub to GP they make money on you. They lock you in either way. This purchase makes them solidify more content to GP/xcloud like Netflix making their own content. This also gives them a safety net that if their hardware doesn't take off this gen they can exit the money pit hardware business and push services solely which is easier to maintain and a lot more profit.

I seriously think if Microsoft doesn't push momentum on hardware this gen they're going full services/third-party.

This gen has gotten a great final year, no doubt about it but i was talking in context of next gen. Yes, they both delivered powerful consoles but ms also revealed the least powerful console of all time which will hold back next gen. Sony is forcing devs to make current gen games which will also hold back next gen.

Ms showed nothing but cg trailers for next gen games because they are like 3 years behind. Sonys CEO is out there talking about 3-4 years cross gen period because how important ps4 consumers are all of a sudden.

$70 or 80 euro games. Bizarre moneyhatting of exclusives by Sony. An entire publisher purchase by Microsoft. I can go on and on.
