I think the current IPs will remain multiplatform, but new ones will be exclusive. Let's say Tango Gameworks is releasing The Evil Within 3 to finish the trilogy, that game could be multiplatform.
And after that let's say their next project is a new horror IP, that game could very well be an exclusive.
Same with Id Software, Doom Eternal's sequel could be multiplatform but if they decide to develop a new IP after that it will most likely be an exclusive.

Also anyone watch The Cherno's recent breakdown/reaction to some of the recent next-gen footage. IMO they were really underwhelming, he was just pointing a lot of obvious stuff out from the gameplay but no in-depth insights or something like we saw in Road to PS5 talk. I could be wrong, I might go re-watch them!
Pretty disappointing honestly.. He clearly didn't do any research about the franchise and offered next to no real insights. And there were several obvious things to talk about.

I'm not sure I QUITE buy those, but they're very possible. I think with the swooping fins or sides or whatever they are, the PS5 will appear a bit bigger than expected. Definitely gonna be bigger than my PS4 Pro!
Actually, I guess when you compare it to the XSX and think about the difference in design. I mean I can see why MS had to go with what people were talking about initially as a larger kind of form factor. Nothing's free, right. All that power generates heat which demands airflow and cooling. I think the PS5 is going to end up being larger than expected for one specific reason- that secondary expansion bay for SSD storage. For SSD drives that you can't even buy (performance wise) today, those things must be hotter than your average SSD..at least I'd imagine so. Allowing for up to TWO of those, hot storage devices internal to the case, plus the APU...power supply. Unless the thing is using liquid nitrogen for cooling, I think it has to be a decent size. It will be very curious to see if and how Microsoft and Sony go about releasing 'slim' versions of these consoles down the road. If they even can!

PS5 is bigger than the original Xbox OG. On the plus side, you can stand it vertical. Don't think you could do that with the first Xbox.
PS5: 15.4 x 4.1 x 10.2 in
Xbox OG: 12.5 × 4 × 10.5 in

yeah, it is a little bigger that OG xbox, but a lot more awkward
I also found augmented reality videos showing ps5 and series x next to each other and one does not fit/compliment the other at all.
Seperated, each to either side of tv is the only possible placement

My Dad would have approved of PS5. He'd look at it and say yeah that's a lot of weight and size for the money .

Oh...shit. I had the wrong numbers for the PS5 dimensions. Ok...well those AR vids probably are pretty much accurate then. PS5 is a big girl! I'm still very curious to see a teardown as I'm thinking there has to be a good bit of space dedicated to airflow and that expansion drive.... maybe not. Where's the freaking tear down video!!!!
I have enough room on my shelf to put it sideways...at least that's how I'm thinking she'll be setup. I'd probably have to put it right on the side of my TV and TV stand if I stood it up and....I have cats so I'm not sure about that. Can't imagine the thing is actually heavy enough to be cat proof. So on her side it is...that's the plan.

Bullshit. It's the smallest difference we've had since PS4 & XB1, and XB1X & Pro.
Difference between RTX 3080 and 3090 is 6 TF. An XB1X worth of TF difference. 30 vs 36 TF.
In percentage, that's just 20% more TF in favour of 3090. Guess what the real world perf difference is between these two GPUs using same arch? On avg. just 10% more perf for 3090 in 4K despite being 20% (6TF) more powerful on paper.
XSX has 18% advantage on paper in terms of TF over PS5, but on avg. its real world perf won't be 18% more for sure.

About the consoles and their difference, I won't even bother to answer to you.

I THINK I see where you're going with this? You're saying that like with the graphic cards, a specific percentage difference in theoretical performance (TF) may be wider due to other factors. Like If you had two cards, one with 10% TF peak higher than the other, but it also uses higher speed memory, bus, etc...it could actually outperform by a wider margin, right? Makes sense to me.
As you said we'll have to see, but I think this is dead on rather than just focusing on numbers because at least so far, we've been seeing titles from 3rd parties with the same specs on both machines and devs "rumors" that they perform very similarly. We'll see though and depending on those other factors that may or may not STAY the case as developers get more familiar with the architectures. For example, SOME recent reports anyway, indicate that the dev tools for XSX went thru a significant change as the toolkit is designed to allow deployment across the Xbox family and PC. That may be putting devs behind the curve for their Xbox products, in comparison to PS5 which dev comments seem to indicate has a toolkit that is pretty much the same as it was for PS4, just scaled up for the new hardware and capabilities. So those same developers may be further ahead in the curve with PS5 due to higher familiarity with the development tools.
We'll have to see how this generation goes. Should be interesting. Definitely a lot of cool possibilities for these boxes. I'm still just very impressed to see the level of ray tracing that we've been seeing so far. When all this started, I thought that RT was going to be just a buzzword and capability that would barely be used at all, IF at all. So seeing how much it's being used right now (although obviously still nowhere near full path tracing) is making me a bit more excited to see how things progress as developers work thru their normal ramp ups with new consoles. Should be very cool!

I am so surprised to keep seeing such amazing things done in Dreams by these people. People that apparently ARE NOT even professionals in the game arena? All I know is that I can't draw. My STICK FIGURE people look horrid! So I really wish I could do stuff like this...just no way. Sure is neat seeing what new things people keep pulling off though.
Hey, on another note...does anyone have a recommendation for a good, solid and reliable USB drive to use with one of the new consoles to archive older games, etc.? Are there any specific drives that work better for that versus your typical WD USB laptop backup drive?

I dont think 1st party studios have to keep supporting it...i dont think they normally do beyong the first year of the new console release. Its the 3rd parties that tend to support the older consoles longer. Also, they do make mote money off of software right? They essentially have to start all over again with PS5 and the turned to profit would would be at least a year or 2 down the road once software can overtake the loss caused by the hardware. PS4 would help mitigate this.
It would be like Apple deleting the App store from old devices everytime a new one comes out. They wouldnt want to do that, instead its better to gradually reduce support for older devices, even if there is overlap.

I would assume the network would be the main thing to hold the UI back. The Ui itself should be smooth, but all the extras that require an internet connection may still be slow.

Bingo. So take the store for example. Should load up instantly and have the menus, but the pictures of the various games will still depend on your connection for how fast they load. I'm just hopeful that the lousy network performance consoles in general have had in the past (especially playstation) has been addressed this time around. With some of the other focus shown there like with WiFi-6 support, etc. I'm thinking it's more likely that it has been addressed. But we'll see. Part of the reason I still want to see a lot more of these systems. We need more of what like Microsoft released showing the resume of games for example. I want to se a PS5 video of say...launching Demons Souls or one of the other titles and starting a new game- to see how it performs. Same on the Xbox side. Hopefully we'll get that over the next few weeks!
Damn...I still keep finding myself using 'hopefully' WAY too much in posts like these. It really does feel like there's still a lot we haven't seen and don't know about these boxes.

The Xbox One UI has always had a lot of functionality and updates but would slow to a crawl. It was the store where things would snail pace it chugging while it loads game icons and if you had video previews auto playing. But their latest update (I got it around a week ago) is fast. The redid some of the layout too which probably helps.
Crossing fingers it remains just as fast on Series X. By the sounds of it, it'll be the same UI.

it's still possible to "fake" most things intelligently. either through caching or making "intelligent" guesses. this would be highly dependent on domain specific applications, and it's just as possible to do it poorly as it is to do it well, but I wouldn't write off either sony or microsoft from doing this well. but ultimately of course the proof is in the pudding, and of course we'll see how things turn out, but knock on wood here's hoping they find a way to blow us away here. there is certainly enough economic impetus to succeed here. knock on wood, here's hoping they blow us all away

Most people who are saying there's a big difference are Xbox fans. NX Gamer and others have said the difference is not big but this gets ignored for obvious reasons.
The reason why RTX 3090 can do 8K gaming MUCH better than a RTX 3080 is due to video memory. It's 10GB vs 24GB. The higher resolution you have, the more VRAM is generally required.
You can look here and see that several games require more than 10GB of VRAM, exceeding the amount of the RTX 3080, but more than enough for the RTX 3090.
Both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 both have 16GB worth if shared memory. Xbox Series X has a split memory and the Playstation 5 doesn't.
You can look at the TF difference and know that the gap is bigger between the RTX 3090/ 3090 vs the PS5 and XsX and yet many people say the performance difference between RTX 3090/3080 is not that big

I don't mind having to pay for a proper remaster. And I know some games have announced different things. But for example let's take Cyberpunk 2077.
They've said it'll play on PS5, "and better" (what does that mean?) but a full "next gen" patch will be hitting in 2021.
So when I pop in my PS4 Cyberpunk Disc into my PS5, will I be playing
1. The PS4 Pro version with NOTHING at all improved?
or
2. The PS4 Pro version but uprezzed to full 4K, higher framerate, better loading etc?
(Later obviously with the patch great I'll be playing the PS5 version)
