And I would argue the other games have a serviceable story, enough for what they're trying to achieve.

Games like Uncharted, Tomb Raider and even Witcher 3, the story and characters is the main focus. It's like the story and characters were written first, then they developed a gameplay that will fit into the story. Whereas with games like Ninja Gaiden and Bloodborne, the developers made the gameplay first and looked for a story to fit into the gameplay.
Dunno though the characters and written story are fantastic, especially in a game like Last of Us so much of the story and world building is done by the environments themselves and what you discover while traversing, which I'd argue is strong gameplay.

Witcher 3 has much better story, characters, and less performance issues. It's also getting a free next gen update next year. Witcher 3 has my vote. Bad frame pacing alone means Bloodborne can't win this for me.

Such a close match up, regardless who wins/loses, both these games are masterpieces and if allowed should share the title game of generation.

Damn, this one is a close race

The fact Bloodborne on one format is fighting so hard against the Witcher on everything is amazing. BUT STILL close your eyes Bloodborne fans and rest easy. Your watch has ended.

You act as if TW3 is without flaws, what makes you so high and mighty sir? TW3 story pacing is downright awful, the open world themes they just copied from Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed series. Geralt is a weak and nothing character in the games, he was much better in the books. All of you fanboys who circle jerk TW3 act self-righteous as sin, I love Bloodborne, but I am capable of admitting that game has flaws, it says a lot about the players who love a game that are incapable of any humility and would rather bury their heads in the sand to remain naive.

That's lame af. I had to worry about wife not showing up during this scene as it's quite embarrasing.
While in BB, I was happy to put the screams and awesome music to show how manly I am

(btw I love both games, voted for BB)
Dude, my dick permanently grew 1 inch after I beat Bloodborne.

The Witcher 3 soundtrack alone is enough of victory :messenger_ok:

Then you have to take into account that expansion packs are like extra big games in themselves. No contest

I really think it's the best videogame soundtrack ever made. What's great is just how MUCH music there is too. It's a couple of hours of really high quality music. My wife listens to it regularly and she's is not a Witcher fan in the slightest.

I love both of these and I'd honestly be fine with either of them taking the top prize.

But if just one can win it has to be Bloodborne.

I think as a whole package it's just the better videogame. Not only does it have an interesting world (both visually an conceptually), but the gameplay and level design are absolutely fantastic.

That's where the Witcher 3 fails. As much as I loved going through the world and playing through all the stories it had to offer, the actual gameplay just isn't that good.

I really enjoyed TW3 despite the average gameplay. But there is no "despite" in my enjoyment of Bloodborne.

You did not actually refute any of my points. Bad story pacing is better than a non existent story. Geralt is at least a character and most people haven't read the books so who cares about them. I said that bad frame pacing ruins bloodborne for me personally. It bothers me that much. I still acknowledge that this is close and that Bloodborne is an amazing game. You just seem upset that so many people enjoyed TW3 more than bloodborne.

30fps and bad frame pacing was never an issue for me on bb. Running into trees and sloppy running in witcher 3 was

And if that's the case you should have voted for it and that's a valid reason. Some people are more sensitive to bad frame pacing than others. Bloodborne was probably one of the worst I've ever played in that regard. I remember FF15 also being pretty bad and thankfully the PS4 Pro helped alot with that or I wouldn't have finished the game.

I chose TW3 because it's a major undertaking. Great story, voice acting, graphics(for it's time), and the combat is good on mouse and keyboard. I enjoyed Bloodborne more because I love the dead worlds that Fromsoftware crafts(they feel talor made for me) but there is just too much to TW3. It's like giving Titanfall 2 the nod over Cyberpunk because it has better gunplay. The games are so very different.

This guy gets it. People actually liked Dragon Age Inquisition when it came out. Then Witcher 3 came out and stomped all over what we thought an RPG could be. The world was fleshed out, the side stories were amazing, and the graphics were still really good. The Witcher 3 achieved something monumental. Bloodborne has amazing combat, level design, and enemy encounters, but these had all been done before.

Three words: The Old Hunters.

Finished that in two nights and it was so weak in places, it's soulsborne short so unless you're playing alongside the campaign you never get momentum going or hit a groove of dopamine and if you are playing it alongside the campaign it can easily make you OP. Souls DLC's suffer the curse in that they only live up to the main game if it's your first time playing. BB is a 10 but lets sweep the DLC under the rug.

I honestly don't understand the praise Witcher 3 gets for its characters and plot/writting, ok only played around 20-25 hours of the main game and not the infamous DLC everybody brags about, but it just.. wasn't that good? ok? idk i loved the Ladies of the Woods and thats it.
It wasn't bad or anything but nothing outstanding just fun western fantasy stuff.

Honestly thought the narrative or characters couldn't carry the clumsy combat Witcher 3 biggest strenght are its visuals, music, presentation wich are very well done

Can i just say, and i preface this by saying i haven't really seen much of this combat, but can i just say that this looks like the same button mash/parry/roll away combat in so many other games, including witcher 3?

Going through this video step by step for a few moments.. first is a button mash sword swing into midair, he gets rightly punished by the enemy lunging in on him. Then it cuts to some other part where he's done the ciri teleport in an attempt to get behind the mob, which he does. Then it cuts again to two more ciri teleports and a bunch of hits on the mob. Finally it cuts to the guy getting stabbed because he ciri teleported into the mobs hitbox for a long stab.

So, basically, Witcher 3 except with, i guess, less expansive areas and harder, unoptional enemies vs. your level? Everyone says BB combat is some kind of extra-videogame experience but from what i can tell it's not that different from what's in Witcher 3, or most other such titles.

The Witcher 3 is superior to Bloodborne in every aspect except combat and I want it to win but I won't be mad regardless of which of the two wins. Both are awesome. I'm less happy with the other side of the bracket.

The only thing I recall of TW3 in terms of writing is the Ladies of the Woods, I don't remember anything else. The writing in Bloodborne (plot, subplots and characters) is awesome. Lovecraft and his cosmic horror is all around.

meanwhile on the right side of this goty contest botw is climbing without any real hardship. no actual struggle. no sweating.

lucky game.

Both are almost equal in my mind but i'll give it to Witcher 3 because its not held back by being exclusive to a weak console.

I voted for Bloodborne, but I'm kind of glad to see TW3 in the lead. This is an awesome race.

The third game in a series that appeals to casual and core gamers alike on every platform under the sun, with a strong following of fans of the books and tv series vs a niche game on a single platform in what is currently a one off title. Hmm gee, let's see how far this forum's Sony bias carries bloodborne I guess 🤔

I'll give this much to bloodborne, for the amount of undeserved hype Sony's first party titles get, it was the only one that unquestionably earned it. The Witcher 3 was better in every way except raw combat and if combat is the deciding factor here, where the fuck are the myriad of games like DmC5 at that did it better than Bloodborne?

Agreed, only filthy casuals like Witcher 3.
