How do Sony provide digital soundtracks these days? I got one with a pre-order edition once and it was a separate app thing specifically for the game soundtrack. I want to be able to download it / play it where I want.

I listen to them on the console, but you can from Sony Music app as well or spotify.
 
Hype got to me and I sold my PS4 Pro while it still had some decent value. Will be on the lookout for a Digital Edition once these finally launch. I kept telling myself I would wait until the first revision but why wait if I can afford it.

Insane Metal Insane Metal Yes, it's Arabic. This is massive support as it seems, much more care and love from Sony ME! Those adventure games get ignored usually due to not many understanding English and stick to COD/Fortnite/FIFA and the likes.

Man I really can't wait for this shit.

3D audio + dual sense + load times so short they can be hidden behind incredibly short animations.. I really think Sony is knocking it out of the park this generation.

Here you see the RealTek audio chip (crab logo) inside the DualSense, which is needed for haptic feedback as it's sound-based, I think, which makes it easy to implement!

Bo_Hazem Bo_Hazem : Interesting stuff.. my guess would be haptics like you said. I can't imagine the controller would have any 3d audio specific hardware in it. That same audio can be sent via USB or BT so I think all that processing would be on the system-side and I think the controller is just a basic BT to 3.5 converter.

This proves that it's audio-based? PC uses RealTek mostly:

 

According to a test by the youtuber dalto11, he tried the DualSense Haptic Feedback on PC using audio/sound effects! And his feedback seems inline with what other youtubers describe the feel of different textures/materials in Astro's Playroom:

This should mean that Haptic Feedback is extremely easy to optimize/implement, so most developers will actually implement it:

Developers looking for an easy way to implement haptic feedback into their PlayStation 5 games will be able to utilise a new technology that uses the sound effects from games to generate DualSense rumble. As part of a technology-themed booklet, the platform holder explained that it aims to "reduce the burden" for some teams by providing simple solutions that utilise its hardware.

"We have created a haptic vibration waveform design environment that anyone can use easily," the manufacturer said. "In this way, we have not only developed a tool that allows game creators to design an impactful, natural, and comfortable vibration waveform in fewer steps, but also created a method of almost automatically generating vibration patterns from a game's sound effects."

In theory, this means that loud sounds such as explosions would provide heavy feedback, while softer sounds like rippling water would be much gentler. Obviously, developers who design custom waveforms will have much more success with the technology, but this sounds like a nice easy way for smaller teams to get started.

And let's not forget that the DualSense has a very good microphone and a speaker! (mic)

You don't cast very clear shadow without a very strong source of light. Usually under shade you barely have a shadow in real life.
What about the shot in the church where the character, who casts a shadow is slashing a skeleton dude who has no shadow?

Might be related to specific situations or a difference between performance / quality modes, but overly static?




Take the boss fight with that Balrog looking bloke.

He is made of fire yet look at the environment closely he moves. The lighting should be far more dynamic than that. In fact, the majority of the dynamic lighting in that scene is when the character is attacking him and that's largely because the character is the one emitting the dynamic light source.

That's fair. I think in general "fire" sources fall off very quickly in terms of lighting in the game (this is illustrated in the lightning strike example I added above too). The Balrog impact could be ramped up a bit especially as he flares up. They did change the look of the Balrog in the latest update too - making him more fiery - so maybe need to adjust the lighting they emit still too.

rambone tested on pc and got some nice volume out of a set of 32 ohm headphones connected to Dualsense. I'm waiting to see how DS4 compares. It's possible it has something like adjustr built in and can drive headphones easier. They are looking to make tempest 3D audio available to everyonethat has a set of headphones. I'm certain they considered this as well since most people will just plug the headphones into the Dualsense.
 
Anyone here waiting for the PS5-Slim?

I wouldn't hold my breath for a Slim. The whole reason it's so big is cooling, and that's going to be a lot harder to improve in only a few years. We'll see, but I feel like we're in a very different place in semiconductor tech these days. Seems like there's a lot less room for drastic improvements, but maybe someone more versed can chime in.
