I’m playing through River City girls right now. I really like how the move set expands as you level up and even purchase moves. The artwork is okay. I like pixels, but SoR 4 spoiled me despite my initial reluctance to the art style. I definitely like how smooth it is to go from one area to another rather than stages. However, level design, character animations, enemy designs, and AI are mediocre to me. The anime approach and humor is cringe for me and I like anime. Overall, it’s a decent title, but it doesn’t scratch my beat ‘em up itch. I’d probably say it’s somewhere between a 6 or 7.

Coming up on the finale of BotW. Continuing to have fun. I'm trying to figure out how to get to Ganon. I'm in Zelda's chambers. I just peeked at her diary (tee hee). Saw the final memory. I'm all ready for the big showdown. I'm wondering what the post-game is like (e.g., no more blood moon?), but I guess I'll find out soon enough.
The game is unparalleled in terms of the inventiveness of its gameplay. It's remarkable how much there is to it. I still feel like there is at least a good 20% I haven't understood or uncovered yet. I'm not even talking about all the shrines I haven't found (I'm up to around 80, so I think there's another 40 out there somewhere) or the korok puzzles (innumerable) -- I just mean in terms of gameplay features.

The West will use the cloud to release ports but Japan third party support will keep getting better and better. We are going to see big increases in support from Atlus and Capcom next year.

I played through it with a friend in one sitting and we had a great time. Probably wouldn't be as much fun single player though.

I bought a 4K TV for the living room and then had to buy a new 1080p TV for the bedroom because I didn't like how the Switch looks on a 4K screen. The kind of thing Nintendo puts me through JFC.

Ok, beat Ganon, both of the bastards. It was a bit of a chore, but that's how final boss fights always are. I was hoping to return to a somewhat altered world, or at least a nice epilogue that wrapped everything up, but the game ends pretty abruptly, then you just restart an old save before the boss fight.
I enjoyed the game, but I don't feel a need to return to it to complete more shrines, get more gear, and whatnot. I think I'm done for now.
That was my first Switch game. I enjoyed it.
Pros:
- Great exploration. Massive world to explore, with all kinds of hidden secrets and rewards.
- A vast array of interesting, creative game mechanics
- Lots of creative puzzles
- I appreciated the lighthearted tone
- Very ambitious
- Nice art style
Weak points:
- Doesn't offer much in terms of story, characters, or dialog. But hey, this is Nintendo, not Sony.
- I'm not a big fan of puzzles, so all the head-scratching got a little tiresome at some points. I didn't realize Zelda was so heavy on the puzzling. This isn't a weak point per se, just something that didn't appeal to me that much.
All in all, though, I had a good time with the game. 9/10, something like that.

Nothing. I'm spending too much time chatting with all the speech bubbles, and trying to figure out if I should be changing classes. I've only done like 7 battles, and I think I've spend more time exploring, training, and eating with my students.
Edit: Fire Emblem is definitely it's own thing.

Ok so I have played it for 10 hrs now and this my sound ideotically uncritical but I absolutely love it. It is my first Atelier game and I thought it'd be the usual low budget jrpg which ticks all the boxes any stereotypical jprg does.
But this game has HEART. A huge heart. And it is also mechanically really sound with decently clever combat system - a nice take on atb - combining skills, weapons and items.
Collecting stuff is fun - for me at least - knowing it leads to more fun with alchemy. And alchemy... boy it can be fun even at this stage of game and I can see I haven't opened everything in it yet. Even the soundtrack is very good.
Honestly, there really isn't much I don't like. Some anime tropes, maybe. So unless something happens later in the game which turns me off of it, this will be one of my favorite games this year.

Either Super Mario Odyssey or Xenoblade Chronicles. Since Zelda felt a lot like an RPG, I might go with Mario first, for a change of pace.
I need to figure out if I actually enjoy Mario or just think I'll enjoy Mario. I haven't played any Mario games, except for Mario Kart on my stepdaughter's Gamecube, 20 years ago, and that was Kart racing, not a "real" Mario game. I need to see if I like one of those, so I can decide whether to dive deeper into the Mario catalog.
However, I also need to watch a video I found yesterday. It's on the subject of things you should do post-game in BotW. If I see some stuff in there that tickles my fancy, I will spend a few more hours in Hyrule first.

I can highly recommend Mario Odyssey. It really is an absolute love letter to gamers. It's fucking beautiful. I don't have the nostalgia, as this is my first Nintendo system, but fuck me when that one bit in New Donk City with the music.. I won't spoil it but I did get a little emotional while having the biggest fucking mile-wide motherfucker of a grin. The game is pure undiluted joy, happiness in electronic form, undiluted movement. It's a fucking masterpiece. Play it now or play it later, but it's essential that you play it.

It having heart is a really good sales pitch. I’ll have to pick it up for sure. Now to decide on PS4 vs Switch...
Both are great. I’m not a huge platformer guy and I had played part of but never finished Mario 64 and Sunshine previously (playing both now properly on Switch). So far I think Odyssey is the best one. Game feels like a celebration of all things Mario.
Xenoblade is a fantastic JRPG. I think it is a must play as well. There are a few elements that I thought were frustrating but the game was incredibly fun despite its own clumsiness. Odyssey might be the better pick though since you’re playing BOTW and Xenoblade is also dense
In my opinion BOTW, Fire Emblem Three Houses, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 are Nintendo’s three best titles on Switch. That’s high praise too because Link’s Awakening, Mario Odyssey, and Smash are all 10/10s as well. They’re hot on the heels of my trip three.

Odyssey and BOTW are two of my favourite Switch games so I'm sure you'll have a good time. I felt Odyssey was less revolutionary but if you've never played a Mario game that won't matter to you.

Don’t understand why 13 Sentinals skipped Switch either.
Atlus is the best part of Sega right now but I don’t understand either company. Why didn’t Sakura Wars release on Switch and why did they remaster Banana Blitz instead of Super Monkey Ball 1/2/DX?
