How The 'NPC' Meme Tries To Dehumanize 'SJWs'

From time to time, and especially if you’re a fan of science fiction, you may have had the thought that nobody around you is actually real. That sentiment has taken root in anti-progressive parts of the internet as a dehumanizing meme, and it borrows some familiar gaming terminology.

If you're being called it theres a high chance you are just repeating the woke high speech. It was a response to when we had pages of 'yikes', 'bad take', 'oof' etc. If someone called me it I'd take a look at how weak my arguments where first, and how stereotypical my comments were.

I like it because some people really act like NPCs. They only say what they are programmed to. You can offer them objectively evidence contrary to what they are telling you and they will deny it.

For instance Democratic politicians were heavily promoting the idea of $2,000 checks. Now, there are NPCs claiming that never happened, they never promised $2,000. You can go look up these speeches, you can pull up the campaign promises from only a month or two ago. You can show them evidence of these people saying "Literally $2,000 check will go out" and yet despite looking at evidence, they will deny it. Because they are not programmed to respond to data like a real human, but to parrot talking points. NPC behavior.

This is why you get called an NPC, because you are a Party Line person. You don't believe in the truth, you are programed to speak whatever is best for your Party. You have voluntarily given up your autonomy to be a promotional NPC, programmed from above.

Well people who get called racists and Nazis end up losing their jobs, being fired from their agency, maybe bank accounts shut down. Removed from all social media, maybe all your content is lost forever.

Has that ever happened because someone was called an NPC? I don't think so. Cancel culture only works one way.

When you think about it, it is the most snowflakey thing to be upset about. The left has been calling people Yahtzees for years, every single day, 24 hours a day. NPC as a slur started a few years into the Trump Presidency (help me here, I might be off on this timeline?) as a response to being called Nazis.

It just rings really touchy, to be like, it is ok to call people Yahtzees, and call border camps "Yahtzee concentration camps", accusing everyone who likes America of being a "white supremacist", and get a free pass to do this for 4+ years straight with no consequences, and all of a sudden, you are clutching your pearls because someone called you a videogame character. There is just a massive double standard all around.

If people weren't calling others extreme slurs for having opinions on comic books and videogames, then the NPC slur would not be needed. But they are. The NPCs started it. Gina Carano getting fired for saying "Beep. Bop. Boop." because extremists claim it is dehumanizing. These people are fine with calling her a Yatzhee and comparing her to historical genocidal racists. It is ok for them to do it. But "Beep. Bop. Boop." is crossing the line. Let's just forget the fact she is in a science fiction tv show featuring robot characters that beep and boop. She is just making a dumb robot joke. The real extremists have dehumanized her by firing her, erasing her from the series, cancelling her action figure, cancelling upcoming books, trying to remove all reference that she ever existed as a person. We cannot accept that people might have unique opinions, or that we have "platformed a bigot" promoting her for years, in fact, all information that she existed must be wiped clean. This is what worries me. Erasing art history, erasing this woman's artistic contribution that entertained millions for years. Going so far as to cancel books and stop producing new things in response. This is a million times scarier than someone getting called an NPC.

'NPC' I can relate to as an (erstwhile) gamer, but there certainly is an aspect of dehumanization to it as you're telling people they're basically they are preprogrammed algorithms (which, by the way, we all are to a certain degree)

so I would say, don't be an NPC, be creative when insulting!

I've been seeing people use NPC as an insult more often recently. It's a pathetic insult and you're doing yourself a disservice by using it.

If I'm participating online and someone calls me an "NPC", that doesn't make me think I'm incapable of higher thought. It makes me think the person saying it is incapable of interacting with normal people> it is a sign that you're in way too deep into gamer culture. Use a better insult and stop embarassing yourself.

I kinda understand what you say.

I mean, sure, if someone would call you NPC, chances are your views on certain things is something that technically warrants the insult.
But I have to admit that to use a meme type of response and then giving high-fives with your peers who are "in the know" about what "npc" is and doing it over and over again when certain trigger issues happen is massively ironic.

DLC will be overpriced horse armor.
