Predict Returnal's Metacritic Score

What will Returnal score?

60-70 I think. Depends on whether reviews will take into account the next gen tax on a game that so far looks resolutely last gen.

Really depends how fun that gameplay loop actually is and how long it pulls you back for more. If its a tight loop I can see high 80s. If it gets stale quick or controls feel clunky or imprecise... could see mid/high 70's to low 80's.

When do reviews break?

Mid/low 70s. Bit unsure now.

Why is Sony so silent about this one. Where are the previews from independent sources. Still have seen a good chunk of unedited gameplay. Would like to get a better idea of how the game flows.

I have shitty memory, what games comes out in late april\early may?!

Edit: except for our lord and saviour biomutant of course.

RE Village is a big one, a week later.
Nier Replicant (Friday?)
R-Type Final 2
Terminator Resistance Enhanced (its on my radar, lol)
Judgment
Mass Effect trilogy

My money will go to Nier and RE. Perhaps R-Type.

I think people are probably going to be disappointed, as from what I've seen so far it looks like there's not enough *game* there for a proper current gen release. That said, I think some people may still be dazzled by early new gen graphics and the like so I'm going low 70s unless they really mess up the gameplay loop.

I hope I'm wrong about this game. I started with thinking it's a 70 but with the P.T. reference it raised up a little bit. I hope it does even better!

I chose "70-80" but now I think "90-100"...

70% because half of the reviewers will not grasp the mechanics correctly and the other half are those who only rate movie games highly because they don't really care for video games.

but both groups can't give it any lower than 70% for the fear of fan backlash

and then there are the people who actually still read reviews by these hacks but shouldn't

78-80.
Days Gone was destroyed on metacritic with 71 and it was my top 5 last gen games.
My score is very generous.

Low to mid 80s.

There is nothing for PS5 right now, so game bloggers won't be as harsh. They will also be very impressed by the DualSense implementation as it's the only game since Astro that is apparently using it well, further boosting score.

Gameplay looks "Platinum games" level good

But the story is what worries me. Seems well acted, but its a rogue-like game, after all.

And length. Hopefuly, it will have tons of content.

I'm hoping for high 80s

This shouldn't and I think doesn't come into a review score.

If that was the criteria, The Medium would have scored 90+ on Xbox. Each game is to be reviewed on its own quality, how it feels, and how it plays. Besides, there already are 4 next-gen only exclusives on PS, with plenty of cross-gen exclusives and multiplatform games.

I wish you guys wouldn't put too much wight in scores. Scores alone wouldn't tell you much about the game.

As I posted on the similar thread before this:

Between 85-89.

I haven't watched any videos about the game for a while, but seeing what's being posted on Neogaf I think it's going to be great. I just preordered the game.

Considering both Ghost of Tsushima and Spider-Man Miles Morales are b/w 80-85, I think 85-89 would be too optimistic for Returnal. But 80-85 would put them into that territory with esteemed company.

Congratulations on the pre-order. Do share your review and impressions when you get the game. Enjoy!

Ah I forgot about random headlines. I guess I'd better concede. Of course there is one more thing; the gameplay videos. None of which look remotely next gen. Have you seen these videos? Have you poured through the data yourself? The framerate, the resolution, the simplistic character models and basic looking environments. Or are you just taking it on, I hate to say it, 'faith' that Kotaku said it looks and feels next gen so it must be true?
