What? Who the hell am I attacking?Lol i left to get beer and came back and there are now 3 more pages and NI is back to attacking people.
There wasn't much to see really. Someone made a post then they and the people who liked it got banned. There wasn't a long chain of meltdowns or anything like that.one side of me would have liked to be there and see the ban wave happen, like watching a car crash live
or mybe it's the old forum mod in me talking![]()
Looks like you're going to need a new job, as that position has been made redundant.
No.Sad face :/
Mods, if I setup a "neogaf member political site" can I post it here? I enjoyed this groups political discussions. Wacky, but not nuts.
LOL I was already thinking, NeoGAF about to spawn another baby in 5...Sad face :/

I don't know, I just opened the thread and saw a bunch of drama and you complaining about racists on social media for the zillionth time. It gave me a flashback to the politics forum so I reacted. What? Who the hell am I attacking?
Nobody. What? Who the hell am I attacking?
Imagine cheering on censorship lol... Odd to see all these users I have never seen come and shit on politics... Where were you all when the board was up? Why weren't you defending your moral virtues against bigoted racists?
I'm confused, since that forum was a lot more civilized than what's going on at other places. :S
No he isn't.Lol i left to get beer and came back and there are now 3 more pages and NI is back to attacking people.
Nobody.
Let's move on to a brighter and less toxic tomorrow ladies and gents.
As someone who spent there entire time in the politics section I can only say "wtf" to this lolWhat is the reason for the nuke?

w-was this supposed to be bait toward me?Kinda like Nintendo fanboys?
This is stupid. There is no such thing as a place without politics.I'm more and more convinced of the position Robert Talisse takes in his book Overdoing Democracy that we need spaces that aren't overtly politicized because politics doesnt exhaust meaning. In the latter parts of a recent episode of The Weeds podcast titled "the politics of cultural criticism" the guest (a movie critic at The Washington Post) makes a similar point about how a facile kind of political criticism flattens distinctions and misses what is actually interesting about media. Forums are both a reflection of and cause of this turn in journalism and I think a lot,of people want to get away from it even though they have trouble looking away from the car crash nature of it. It was kind of contained in a sub forum but not really with how partisan coded different forums become as a result of it.

Twitter & Facebook, for example. As someone who spent there entire time in the politics section I can only say "wtf" to this lol
Where have you been that you would consider that civilized?

I don't do uncut.Gloryholes.
Now if only gamefaqs.com would do the same thing.

It makes me wanna smash someone other than my wife. What say you, GAF? 👨🏾💻www.neogaf.com
Thank you.It was a source of major friction and drama within the community. It was attracting the wrong type of people to GAF, and pushing away the right type of people. It was a nightmare to moderate. It was frequently an embarrassment to be associated with.
It's gone.
The gamefaqs one isn't too bad. It's pretty thoroughly modded too
It got too radioactive so it was nuked.
Maybe you can set up a Brit OT where we can post brit stuff?Just want to say I really appreciated the many discussions we had going in the UKPoliGAF thread. Feel like a fish out of water right now tbh.. :/
I disagree. Evilore is 100% a middle of the road person, maybe leaning a little more left than normal but not radically. I think he just wants a forum where people can openly debate without being to far to one side of the spectrum. Also, I think he cares a lot about the mod team who does a great job. Moderating the politics must have been super hard.Don't care too much about it either way, but given the amount of adjustments from hard left to hard right to back again this site has been through - not just passively, but through active actions and participation in discussion - I doubt there's any consistent personal conviction of leadership behind any of those shifts. Maybe a concern of losing users or ad revenue, sure, but that's probably about it (which is fair enough, I guess).
Anyways, let's see how it turns out then. My best bet is those topics will tend to creep into the gaming and ot forums instead now, but we'll see. Up until now, the gaming forum did seem to be reasonably well focused on, well, gaming, so I hope that's not going to change things.
Heal what?Just like pulling an infected hangnail from your finger or toe, it's going to hurt for a lot of users but now it can bleed and heal.

It's fine that it's gone but I hope that there's a blanket "no politics" rule from now on and that all the other sub-forums will be tightly moderated to ensure no one posts anything related to politics or anything that could turn into a political discussion. It was a source of major friction and drama within the community. It was attracting the wrong type of people to GAF, and pushing away the right type of people. It was a nightmare to moderate. It was frequently an embarrassment to be associated with.

It isn't all or nothing. It's about political saturation of social space, and how some of the dynamics of forums and media feed polarization and radicalizationThis is stupid. There is no such thing as a place without politics.
