What is your preferred game system?

For this generation, Xbox Series X. Including the upcoming Halo Infinite, I will have played 12 games this year on Xbox Series X including expansions while on PlayStation 5, I only played 3 games with no expansions. Next year, the gap will be even bigger due to several games getting delayed into 2022.
 
I have like 20 things I can play games on. I don't have a strong preference. Really depends on what I want to play in the moment.

Xbox, since the launch of the first Xbox in 2002 in Europe. Even the Xbox One ended up being my main console last gen, despite all its flaws. Microsoft did a heck of a job turning things around with hardware and services after the initial disappointment (PS4 remained that box for exclusives, though). Overall, I think Microsoft has made huge leaps in hardware. Their Surface lineup is pretty stellar too.

I only have a least preferred system... Three of them are great for different reasons and all have a place in my home. One of them is completely redundant and brings absolutely nothing to the table imo.
 
There's tension between consoles even with games being on steam I say advantage SONY. The only thing you can say about Nintendo is their respected franchises. I just don't see a reason to buy an Xbox.
 
I said Playstation but only because I'm taking into account the PSX/PS2/PS3. I never really got into the PS4 like I did previous consoles. I mainly get new systems now for Resident Evil games. In terms of modern systems, the XBX is more interesting to me than the PS5. Switch does nothing for me but the software library is really good.

My go to console these days is the Wii U but I play PSX games just as often.

I pretty much always have a Nintendo console, but I haven't considered them my main console since the Wii really.

I had GC and PS2. GC was probably my main system and then I had a PS2 for a few exclusives like MGS, DMC, Shadow of the Colossus. Most people probably feel the opposite but the PS2 was a JRPG powerhouse, and I'm not a huge fan of the genre. Played the og Xbox at my friends house too, so I was pretty much all set.

Then I got a Wii and a 360, since most of my friends migrated to the latter. I would say I played both as my "main system" since the 360 had all the 3rd party games I could want and the Wii had a really good selection of Nintendo games and some creative third party exclusives. I eventually got a really cheap used PS3 for a couple games I missed like MGS4 and Demon Souls, but that died after a little while.

Then neither the PS4 or Xbone really got me all that excited, and I actually was more excited for the WiiU, which I got on launch. Then it was down to either a PS4 for Bloodborne or an X1 for Killer Instinct. After the X1 got a price cut to $350 and they announced backwards compatibility I got one since I had been waiting for a new KI game since the N64. Before that I was still playing the 360 more than the damn WiiU because it had fuck all to play until WWHD came out.

X1 was my main console and every now and then I played a WiiU game. I got a Series X now because I prefer WRPGs to JRPGs, and there's the Bethesda buyout thing that happened. Plus all my X1 games carry over, most of which are enhanced on SX, so it was a no brainer for me. I also just got a Switch for Metroid Dread, as I'm always down for Metroid and Zelda.

So yeah I've mostly been Xbox/Nintendo over the years.

It doesn't surprise me, as an ecosystem it really has little going for it apart from exclusive games. If they improved build quality, created a customisable UI with common apps like Netflix/Now TV/iPlayer/Disney Plus and had a compelling online infrastructure with handles, messaging, friends lists, group chat etc I think it'd be a compelling 'main' system.

I don't use any that crap on my PS5 let alone on Nintendo, to me my console only needs to do one thing and one thing only and it's to play games. My smart TV can do all those Netflix and other streaming crap if I wanted to.

Ok? And the build quality, customisable UI, handles, friends list, messaging and group chat? Is all of that 'crap' too? My Smart TV does all of that too, but you can't take a 50 inch TV on a flight or a road trip. It would take no effort to implement, and some people would use that 'crap'.

For me yeah, I'm not in to MP at all so I don't use any of those features and as build quality so far I had no issue with my Switch.

I'm simple person, as long as the system has the games I care about then I don't really care about rest so called "features".

Sony have the best QA for their lcds but their oleds aren't any better than lg atm, they need a lot of improvement there.

Generally I agree with you but this was a really poor year for their tvs.

Well you're in the minority on both counts there.
 
I mostly play Playstation or Nintendo1st party games because they are my jam. Theres the exceptions like FromSoftware, Capcom, MGS, Atlus games etc.

Soon Ill have a low powered PC for indies, point and click adventure games, older PC games plus my beloved Total War games, but I will always prefer consoles for ease of use and the games I like.

Im not really interested in playing 3rd party games like Assassins Creed, GTA5, Far Cry, Cod on 4k 60-240fps etc, especially now that PS5 is playing them most at 60fps.
Id rather play games like Bloodborne, Uncharted, BOTW or Fire Emblem at 30fps because you can spice up poop like Assassins Creed all you want but its still poop regardless compared to Playstation and Nintendo 1st Party games.

To me PC gamers miss out on so many good Nintendo and Playstation 1st party games. Back in the day Console owners would miss out on great PC games like Max Payne 2, Half life 2, System Shock etc but PC gaming now has basically become console games at better fps and effects etc but without the good 1st party console games

Core gamers are more likely to own all systems but I'm still surprised to see so small gap between PS and Xbox, and Switch it quite clearly a secondary platform here.

Same here. Im 90% into Solo games. Theres the exceptions like Destiny, PSO on Dreamcast.
Sometimes Ill play Cod zombies, Minecraft or Rocketleague online with friends but not with people I dont know and its rare

This is why they can buy so many studios now but rarely did this before(RIP Bizarre Creations). Phil Spencer now has more power than any Xbox executive before him.
 
PC. Can play all my retro games there, Xbox 1P games, PC exclusives (particularly certain indies and simulator/tycoon-style games), PS 1P games, more or less all 3P games (even ones that are console-exclusive since they tend to get PC ports), etc. Not to mention it will probably continue to be the best place for VR and AR. Oh, and the modding scene/fan-translation scene is extremely robust there too.

I've got family and friends who will always prefer console but for me the way things are going PC is probably going to be my spot. Will probably get an eGPU for my current laptop next year and get a good graphics card with that I can swap into a desktop rig when I need extra performance. Wish there was an option for clone consoles in the poll; I'm very interested in getting an Analogue or MiSTER setup as well, probably the former tho since they are bringing Analogue OS for expanded emulator-like functionality on FPGA devices. Best of both worlds WRT retro games IMO.

Console-wise tho I will most likely still pick up a Xbox Series (probably for family to play on) alongside GamePass; I really don't have an interest in any Nintendo system until Switch 2 because Switch emulation seems great on PC and I can just run bought games in the emulator IIRC. So that's a weird case where I'll still buy the games I'm interested in but prefer playing them in emulator (unless the compatibility sucks, in which case I'm just SOL for a bit on that). PlayStation 5, I might still pick one up later but it really depends on their PC release strategy. I can wait a few months because I'm not sick with FOMO, except potentially with fighters like SF6 but those will come to PC anyway.

If Sony doesn't have plans for something GamePass-like and the release timing of their games to PC is reasonable enough (1-year tops) then I can just get the 1P games I want on PC either through Steam or whatever store/launcher Sony plans on making. If they make stuff like PSVR2 PC-compatible, though, then I will definitely pick that up as it'll probably be the best bang-for-the-buck VR headset solution on the market for at least a few years. If by some chance they do bring a GamePass-like service to PS5 though or decide to bring 1P releases into PS+ Day 1 or in a reasonable time frame, that could make it a more appealing alternative to a Xbox Series that I can share with some family.

I answered PC because of its breadth and versatility - including emulation, but I just love (good) games period. I don't really care about the delivery device. If great games are there, I'm there.
 
For me, MegaDrive and Saturn are the obvious answers. Otherwise, Xbox system since 20 years. Some Nintendo here and there as well, and the PS Vita.

For my taste currently Switch and Playstation. But I don't buy systems based on which one is more powerful or has most features, I buy it solely based which one has the most games I personally care about.

To my own surprise, the DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive trigger is a game changer for me.

I definitely prefer games on PS5 if they support haptic feedback.
 
From this poll you cannot tell Switch is selling by the truck loads.....so looks like Playstation, Xbox and PC have to fight for hardcore gamers market. Meanwhile Nintendo dominates in casual/family gaming
 
I'm a PC guy at this point, but I also have a Switch for exclusives and Nintendo-adjacent games.

There's no real allure with the PS5 and XSX for me. Bases covered already.

Although, that dildo sucking fool kretos kretos made it embarrassing to be a PlayStation fan.
