BREAKING: Sony is acquiring Bungie for 3.6b

Bungie is a good get. They know how to make shooter games. Still surprised that they will stay multiplat, maybe it was part of the contract?

Its Sony.... With Jim Ryan.

You can expect this is not a brilliant idea.

Indeed. Sega was a better option.
I kinda don't understand what you're saying… Sony with Jim Ryan is releasing games on pc, bought a pc porting developer and is creating a direct gamepass competitor. If anything, he knows exactly what he's doing.
Sega and SE comes with other stuff then gaming so it's not necessarily a better get because those stuff don't align with SIE.

Has bungie made anything of note in 20 years besides halo or Destiny? Both big franchises but halo isn't even theirs so....I guess this acquisition will help them expand their bandwidth and continue building new IPs, but I dunno.

Are you fucking kidding me?

Well people wanted a big fps on playstation, there you have it.

this could have been square or capcom or konami instead...

Edit: so now M own crash bandicoor and spyro and Sony own the creators of halo, you can't make this shit up.

yeah they sorted out a $3b deal in the space of 2 weeks as a reactionary measure.

jesus

You have no idea what Bungie have planned. Sony don't just throw cash away unless they see value in the purchase.
I fully agree, I think some people don't live in the real world. I'm no senior exec but it should be obvious a deal like this couldnt have been rushed.

I think each corporate buy will cost more and more, relative to what the dev or publisher is worth now. The price is going up now for everybody POST the Zenimax purchase.

To some degree, but still it seems very high.

Bungie has 600devs and its only major ip is destiny.

However that was the price to aquire bungie, and it will bolster sonys first party well. Pretty good for them.

Bungie is lying about something obviously! Like you said, if literally nothing changed, then why would Sony spend $3.6 billion? There's something they aren't telling us.

they will probably release games on PC too, and/or there are contracts for next games just like activision or bethesda

I said they have around 6 b to spend for the division in 3 years....they probably spend 2 years of investiment in one ....what's wrong with you?....3.6 are very very different from buying EA lol wake me up if they buy another studio / publisher for another 3b ..then moke me
Your post literally says they wont spend more than 1.0-1.5 billion. Stop being a clown for once.

Edit: Also, bookmarking this.

What? That doesn't even make sense. What's the point in buying them then?

Sony benefits from the money theyll pull in. Sony doesnt have an MMO, which they really need to bring in the dough, and this will likely do it. Bungie's coffers are now Sony's coffers, at least for the bottom line

Literally any other fucking studio would've been better...
These people only make fps games and the only ip they own is a shitty fucking mmo
How old are you people here? You got to be joking right?

Bungie made halo the good ones in the mc collection.
Also they are a huge studio.
Destiny was a huge fps game, not just some mmo.

Why throwing shade? You don't like them?

This was a wise purchase. FPS area lacking.
Back in the day Sony was said to be lacking a halo killer, so they go and get the people who made halo. Its a big deal.

This is possibley the worse news of my entire life…..

Hey if they keep pc going all good.

To me, personally nothing as I don't like fps, but to Sony… now they'll actually have a shot at releasing good fps games.
But they would need to create a new game because destiny bombed hard. I mean, are you paying 3.6 billion for a bunch of people to tell them what to do? Of course not. Specially since you aren't buying slaves, those people can simply go to another company. If you pay 3.6 billion you're paying for assets which bungie has none but destiny. So Sony paid 3.6 billion for the destiny franchise, are you serious right now?

Just look at how much money Microsoft paid for Zenimax, less than double this and Zenimax owns a lot of franchises well beloved by gamers.

watch as "organically growing" studios will suddenly be not important anymore :)
we knew MS changed the landscape and started this - look at them for the reason all this is happening.

IMO it's a good get...hate Destiny all you want, Bungie is still the best at making games with stellar shooting mechanics alongside Doom
