yeah Sony probably overpaid but they noticed their weaknes of lacking fpp and gaas games and thats the reason they decided for a dealSo Sony paid 14x bungie revenue, while ms paid 8-9x ActBliz revenue. Seems like someone overpaid.

Bethesda has a lot of IPs but hadn't had a major hit in years and definitely didn't have a live service money cow like Destiny to their name
It's doing pretty good, last numbers I saw had it at 18 million life time players compared to 20mil for final fantasy 14 and 100+ million for wow.Hasn't TESO been pretty successful? Maybe it's not anymore, I don't follow MMOs.
It seems like a bargain now after seeing the last two acquisitions.Sony bought Insomniac for 250 mln. MS Bethesda for 9 bln and Sony Bungie for 3,6 bln? Bungie for 3,6?! For real?
I thought Bethesda was expensive, but it was bargain.
yea. $2 Trillion company is going to change how they do things because of what a competitor a fraction of their size is doing.Everyone should relax. As assured by Sony, it'll remain multiplatform. Maybe we're kinda heading into a strange new kind of war, pure money? This might force MS to rethink their strategey with the latest multiplatform studios they bought.
Not really. Sony paid 14x on bungee revenues, ms paid 8-9x on actibliz revenues, and 14-15x on zenimax revenues. Looking at this actiblizzard was the real bargain while bungie and zenimax were both similar. It seems like a bargain now after seeing the last two acquisitions.

Keep telling yourself that. It's in the official press release and there were clearly several suitors making offers to a company that had no interest in selling to drive the price up to nearly 4 Billion dollars for what amounts to a single IP with a fairly rocky history. I'm pretty confident Bungie have lawyers competent enough to not get Zuckerberged and they contracturalized these stipulations before they agreed to sell.
Where did you get revenue for Bungie and Zenimax from?
Well, they created gamepass and play anywhere because they were losing to Sony, so…yea. $2 Trillion company is going to change how they do things because of what a competitor a fraction of their size is doing.

Who was Office losing to when they made Office 365?Well, they created gamepass and play anywhere because they were losing to Sony, so…
Those things are unrelated. Do you really believe MS would've created gamepass and play anywhere had they been on first place?Who was Office losing to when they made Office 365?
Dude really .. subscription services is a thing the past 12 or so years .. they are late ..Those things are unrelated. Do you really believe MS would've created gamepass and play anywhere had they been on first place?Everyone and their mother know this was an act of desperation to remain relevant.
They're absolutely related. Hell at one point MS was going to do the same thing with Windows. Those things are unrelated. Not quite. More like a way of securing funding for content. Microsoft sold us the biggest crowd funding project ever. Those things are unrelated. They aren't. They did to remain relevant and don't shut Xbox down. It was the only thing they could do in order to survive. Sorry, bud, MS is not this ultra smart company you think it is.They're absolutely related. Hell at one point MS was going to do the same thing with Windows.
Money losses will force their asses to. And it's a ~$50B only company, without counting debt.yea. $2 Trillion company is going to change how they do things because of what a competitor a fraction of their size is doing.

Bungie has a history of telling their boss to go fuck themselves. They could have been only willing to sell provided they are left to their own devices pre-acquisition and only need to share information/tech with Sony Studios. If Sony start impeding on Bungie's choices, I could see staff leaving. Keep it multiplatform and spare the drama.Sony didn't 'fund' them, Sony (SIE specifically) bought the 100% of Bungie.
So they will keep Destiny 2 and their future games multiplatform (including Xbox) because Sony allows them to do so. Jimbo is their boss now, so if somewhere in the future he changes his mind and decides to make their games exclusive Bungie will do so.
SIE now will have two publishers: Bungie (who will remain multiplatform) and PS Studios. But both inside SIE, under Jimbo's control. Bungie is now another Sony team more. Bungie can't decide to go away or to sell their IPs. Sony allows them to have some freedom but Sony owns Bungie and all their assets and Jimbo is free to change all Bungie plans and to do whatever he wants with Bungie, their employees and their IPs if he ever decides to do so.
Yes, what it's said there fits 100% with what is written there. SIE bought the 100% of the shares of Bungie and now SIE is the only one who owns and controls Bungie and all their assets, and Jimbo is their new boss. Jimbo decided to allow them to continue being a multiplatform publisher inside SIE.
And if somewhere in the future Jimbo changes his mind and decides to change his plans regarding Bungie or Bungie's IPs he will do whatever he wants with them, because SIE now owns 100% of Bungie.
I love reading that guys posts.yea. $2 Trillion company is going to change how they do things because of what a competitor a fraction of their size is doing.
Why? They would still make money off of every copy sold and bundle the games again. They will get all the money from microtransactions. I think this is just A GAF/ERA problem. These sites are a Haven for single player experiences and don't comprehend and tend to dislike / not like anything GaaS. Yes I understand the game with the highest amount of OT's in GAF history is Destiny but that doesn't change the fact if a poll was done here today "what do you like more single player or GaaS" that single player would win by some ridiculous number. The talk of "boring acquisition" is stemming from people who don't get it. Yet this move will benefit the the larger majority of PS5 users that don't post on forums, and yes, having a new Bungie IP on the system (even if it's not an exclusive) will make Bank for Sony once the faucet is turned on and money rolls in from Xbox and PCFrom that bungie picture . And the QA, it seems that all bungie games are cross platform . If that's the case for future projects too then worst 3.6 billion ever
That's not really a war when you compare Microsoft with Sony. They just had a net income of 18.8 billion in 1 quarter...Everyone should relax. As assured by Sony, it'll remain multiplatform. Maybe we're kinda heading into a strange new kind of war, pure money?
It's not really that. It's correcting a mistake they made two generations ago in order to stay competitive in 2022. They threw all their chips in the single player pile after Uncharted's success while GAAS games became the big money makers. Fortnite alone makes $5 BILLION a year. Sony couldn't wait until the PS6 to organically grow a GAAS studio, Bungie is already successful as an independent studio focusing on GAAS, so this fills in a big gap in Sony's development muscle.Businesses make moves to make money , not to win arbitrary console wars.
The purchase of Bungie to the end user creates more diverse mp content for Sony and ultimately leads to more ways to monetise their content to bring more revenue in.
The console war is irrelevant in this scenario.
Having Bungie games on XBOX only benefits them.
Yeah then explain why Spider-Man isn't on Xbox anymore if Sony are the ones that wants "gaming for everyone". Also Destiny 1 DLC was locked from Xbox till Destiny 2. " Gaming for everyone".It's funny how sony kind of ends up looking like the good guy in the end.
Microsoft ended up buying two major publishers and took bethesda games off playstation (starfield, ES6, etc.), and they're pretty much threatning to take the biggest multiplayer game off playstation now.
Sony buys bungie, promises to upgrade the studio and keep everything multiplat. Looks like Sony are the ones that wants gaming for everyone.
Now take playstation off the equation. Let's see what's revenue is left for ActivisionSo Sony paid 14x bungie revenue, while ms paid 8-9x ActBliz revenue. Seems like someone overpaid.
Spider-Man is on PS as Marvel went to Sony regarding exclusive use of one of their IP. Sony looked at their studios and partnerships and thought Insomniac would be best equipped to try this. Insomniac alone chose to make a Spider-Man game from Marvel's IP. Insomniac have stated this publicly. Blame Marvel for the situation if you want to blame anyone.Yeah then explain why Spider-Man isn't on Xbox anymore if Sony are the ones that wants "gaming for everyone". Also Destiny 1 DLC was locked from Xbox till Destiny 2. " Gaming for everyone".
The rest of your post was pointless, because this is the crux, and you're just repeating yourself. And as best as we can tell, Bungie retain ownership of their IP. When they leave Sony, their IPs will go with them.
I think context is important for stuff like this. Sony and MS both acquired studios for different reasons. To Sony, the ROI from Bungie won't be expected to come from milking the last drops from Destiny. It's going to come from the GaaS push that Sony will be able to undertake with Bungie's leadership/guidance. MS, OTOH, needs raw content. Bethesda and Activision are large publishers. They clearly are looking at volume, as that's essentially what Netflix did as well. Fill the catalog with enough stuff to keep your subscribers busy, and you'll lower your churn rate.So Sony paid 14x bungie revenue, while ms paid 8-9x ActBliz revenue. Seems like someone overpaid.
Because CoD isn't on Steam? Our personal opinions re Destiny 2 might differ (not a game for me for example) but your statement is completely wrong.
Destiny 2 was a top revenue generator on Steam in 2019, 2020 and 2021. It is a money making machine with a very loyal fan base. As a matter of fact CoD did not reach the top revenue generating spot on Steam any of those years in comparison.
Check your facts before writing.

Depends to what Sony wants to sell, what the other party wants to buy, etc.So with this independence Bungie has, if Sony ever tries to sell Bungie then their IPs would also be included, right?
Just think a bit about which one will basically pay off these billion is very little time…These recent acquisitions seam like wasted money. They should buy Konami or Atari and revive old IPs.
MTX revenue from Destiny is supposed to be over $300m alone… that doesn't account for others revenue. So Sony paid 14x bungie revenue, while ms paid 8-9x ActBliz revenue. Seems like someone overpaid.
